Do you mind me asking where you ordered them from? Desperately need some new hoops for my Yeti.

I used to work for a well known high street electrical retailer, and this sort of stuff seemed pretty common practice. They would introduce a product at a stupidly inflated price, leave it for about 2 weeks, then reduce it by some ludicrous amount (say 50%)and advertise it as an amazing deal. Of course, we were never told this, but it became more and more obvious the longer you worked there and got to know the products – there was a definite pattern to it. The worst thing about it was that sometimes people would buy the items before the price was reduced, and it used to make me feel extremely uneasy having to sell them something that I guessed (obviously I din’t “know”) was at a grossly inflated price. Needless to say I got out of the place as soon as I could.

My Superlight (approx 25.5lbs) is significantly faster overall than my Yeti 575 (tad over 28lbs). The difference in acceleration is massive. Even if they were the same weight, or even if it were a bit heavier, I am certain the Superlight would still be a faster singletrack/trail bike due to the geometry and relatively firm pedalling platform, although the Yeti is always going to to faster through really rough sections and gnarly descents.

Also worth asking around at the cycle centre – either staff or other riders should be able to give you some hints.

p.s. ideally hook up with someone who knows the Forest, or you’ll probably just get frustrated trying to find anything!

There are miles and miles of excellent singletrack in the FOD, and I don’t think I’ve even found half of the best of it yet. There is a small waymarked trail (The FODCA Trail)which starts by the bike centre; it’s fun for a quick blast, but technically very easy these days and also rather short. There is a good website with some OS maps on which has been started recently http://www.thefod.co.uk.

Are you visiting? I sometimes get down on sundays and can throw together a varied 4-5 hr loop no probs.

Expensive bass guitars used to be my obsession, but having owned a silly number of them (and preferring to be riding than practising)I have finally gotten that out of my system… well nearly! I really wish that I had spent all of the money I spent on basses on bikes, although the basses do earn their keep by enabling me to make a little pocket money for bike bits and nappies.

My most extravagant purchase ever is probably this bass:

Bio-pace chainrings, Onza L-bends and Girvin Flex Stem… Still got the L- bends!

I expect how much you notice the difference will depend a bit on your bike. On my single pivot Superlight a Pushed RP23 made an absolutely massive difference, although I miss the ability to effectively "lock out" the shock sometimes. I think the Push tuning helped compensate for the limitations of the design of my frame.
