I do love Caterhams and have driven them extensively, but one propbem I have; they aren’t a road car, nor are they a racing car. On the road they drive like a racing car, seriously uncomfortable, poor ride etc etc. As soon as you get on track I find them very soft (compared to a racing car) and vague, a bit like a road car…..That said I do love them, but I think for road driving an Elise is a better driver’s car.

M3s were great until they became bloated and complex…. I feel nothing 4×4 is permitted in this category so that counts out quite a few……not driven a GT86 but here good things…..MX5 is tempting (but makes an Elise look quick)….all 911s are seriously impressive and engaging, and Boxsters are very underated. I think an Elise still rules the roost overall, though, or a 911 if you want some power.

What size are you looking for – much as I like it, it’s getting no use these days. Mine’s 60cm, black. Frame. fork, good wheels, a few bits and bobs.

I might be interested in this if @oddnumber isn’t a lanky bugger

G holds his stare towards the camera for just long enough to make it creepy

Not a G fan, but I though that part made him look like a BAMF

Is it possible to convert 9/10/11spd rear wheels to single speed?

Yes, I run this setup on my pompet. You need one of these

I have both, the pair procured from this very forum (one from Stoner, forgot the other bloke).

Both lovely bikes, the pompino stays in the office for use there, although has ventured out for the occasional longer sojourn, Dunwich Dynamo for instance. Pompino is my winter commuter and gets a lot of miles at that time of year. I have to say I prefer the pompino for some reason, possibly I prefer SS bikes to be simple in nature.

Cross check: I have also had one of these, and used it extensively. They ride better than pomps, but they are 3x the price for the frame, so no real surprise.

If you can’t find a new pomp I would suggest you just pick up a used one, they cannot be equalled for the money.

Fantastic job S, you would never know it was a medium.

I always wondered why seat posts come sooo long, now I know.

ps- good luck and well done to Mrs S!

FiL’s X3 had a clonk for forever, garage kept sorting it out and invariably the clonk would return ~1000 miles later.

Tyres which were not uniformly worn, or not matching brands/models, 100% guarantee.

We had one for a few years, and didn’t really rate it. Amazingly refined at speed, 40mpg, very roomy and looked good. However: Suspension far too hard, engine not powerful enough, build quality poor, HAVE to have matching tyres or caused all manner of (noisy) problem relating to the transmission.

he bi-monthly meeting of the Tom Clancy appreciate society book club?

Thats fairly on the money, likely reps from a large publisher discussing a new book.

American professional racers won’t want some fancy-pants F1 driver turning up and beating them at their own game so he’ll have his work cut out IMO.

Where as what? They are each happy to be beaten by other Americans? They may want him to win less than they might want American drivers/regulars to win, but ultimately it won’t manifest itself in being ore of a challenge for him imho.

I have had a few, much stiffer than most forks, and extremely plush, would highly recommend.

    This:

    Campari spritz.
    3 parts prosecco
    2 parts Campari
    1 part soda water
    Serve with ice

Or I prefer Aperol spritz myself.

Campari I tend to mix with fresh orange juice.

Ignoring the online prices aspect – You basically wanted to make a large purchase of multiple products up to a value of around £1600, and that you thought they may be able to offer a deal for the whole lot with a slight discount off RRP. Its actually not an unreasonable request on your part, and probably a token gesture would have done it?

Its an odd one, you may actually have inadvertently put them on the defensive by mentioning online prices, could have been better off without that. Many businesses just don’t believe in discount (we very very rarely discount anything) believing it to be a slippery slope, they could subscribe this notion.

@13thfloormonk I’m not asking for crazy discounts though I’m asking for what would be normal price for the items if they were stocked. Nobody ever pays RRP for bike parts in the UK, and it’s easy to see what would and would not put them out of business by prices of every other product compared to retail. If bike shops can sell £2k bikes at £1k because they are last years model then 10% off a crankset is surely doable!

I don’t agree that people don’t pay RRP in the UK. So you would do the deal for £1440?

We are talking bike? I have skied three, very nice, resort a little outdated. Bike I imagine its nice, and steep (as others have said). The Espace San Bernardo is a nice ski area, not sure if its connected to the French side in the summer or not, but that also nice (La Rosier).

ATMO the status quo will remain, there won’t be any big gains on the front runners. Honda will draw a but closer, but will still be down on power, as will Red Bull.

I have watched every GP since late 1993; despite a lifelong motorsport fan I have really lost my mojo with it. The only times I watched this year were the first and the last, and I gave up half way through.

I actually find it reasonably interesting, but I can’t get excited about a race for third, and I can’t commit 2 hours 21x a year on the off chance a race for the win breaks-out.

I vote Mercedes are banned for ruining it.

Cracking in the undertray at 70mph on the motorway may lead to it ripping off on the motorway. May not seem like much till you hit 60mph or 70mph

    What he said

I assume they will argue that the Audi garage in question’s workshop had an 8 day due or the under tray was on back order?

I’ll be heading for Swanage on Friday for the Charlie the Bikemonkey ride, followed by a Mexican meal, followed by a “cool sounds and psychedelic visuals disco”… what could go wrong and wisely I’m not due in work until next Tuesday. Hopefully we won’t have last year’s comedy winds…..

I am booked on aswell, but seem to have injured my back, which is a real shame as it looked a LOT of fun.

Sounds like a very strange one.

Surprised that its £500 to reattach an undertray and check alignment and that it took 8 days. Do you have a copy of Audi’s invoice?

The problem here more likely lies with Audi, not the insurer. Insurance companies may be sharp, heartless ***stards, but they don;t just lie, so the invoice will be for real. Its much more likely to be Audi ripping the pee out of the insurance company, because, well…they can.

You won’t be ripped off, that much I can tell you.

Have used did a few times Birmingham and London. First one was great and good value. Second one nearly killed a Deliveroo rider at some traffic lights half way through our journey and our driver was generally a liability. Was good value though.

The deliveroo guy did swerve slightly, so there was mitigation. It was a bit like a modern form of natural selection, two underpaid workers with no rights on he same bit of road, and only one can live. In reality the box would have saved his life if we had impacted, but someone’s Yo Sushi would have been destroyed, but I digress..

Thanks. A mate did a climb there training for the etape, he said it was partly on closed park roads – same one / different route ?

I think that is the eastern side of the mountain, this was all main roads, albeit quiet ones.

    Thanks!

I rode it in summer 2013 with all the TdF gubbins still around, which was quite cool.

That sounds very cool. Closest I have managed was the last part of the 2014 TDF London stage on my Brompton. Did you resist the temptation to throw your bottle when empty?

    Appkit Gourdan +1 also.

Smaller sizes have handy side pockets.

They are also cheap and look funky, possibly even cool if thats your look and you squint.

What is the deal with that ebay golf shop? Always have loads of PX stuff on there, but its listed as a separate business of some kind.

    Leigh Sinton way?

Judging by the past attempts (successful and otherwise) in Leigh Sinton it would be a big fight for PP there. Not sure if Madresfield would be much better, but certainly wouldn’t be any harder.

Sounds fascinating. I saw on Phil Gaimon’s twitter last week that he has outed himself as Luigi form operation puerto, having let that hang round Cancellara’s neck for the last decade or so.
