Not the cheapest option for that kind of thing but bloody fab nevertheless. Need plenty of room to park it – our hallway was taken over for the couple of years we had one. Great for shifting other bikes, shopping, people and lots of other things you never thought you could. Rides like a bike too, easy to forget your riding something longer than normal.

don’t white industries or someone do a double freewheel? you could use that along with 2 rings up front to achieve a ‘road’ and ‘off road’ gear with the same length chain – similar fixed set up with a Surly Dingle cog.

or use the Hope trials hub with 2 cogs to achieve the same effect out back.

    Both sides are threaded.

unless it’s a Halo FixG – these are fixed thread on one side and have a HG slotted mount on the other, much easier to change ratios.

yep, did it a couple of times last year in the run up to the 3 Peaks – fab day out, bit achey afterwards though, gears would’ve probably helped ;o)

What the op got quoted sounds reasonable, outside London prices.

Get a road bike with clearance for guards and mounts for a rack – carry the load on the bike not your back.

Not a lot geometry wise. It’s just a Troll but bigger. They’ve taken the opportunity to lighten the KM by removing v brake mounts from the seat stays, making it more mountain bikey. The Troll is aimed at utility/tour really.

yeah, but it’s got lots of axle – plenty of room to space it out to 130mm. Not many options otherwise, or they get expensive – Phil, etc…

why not just get a shop to build one of these http://www.ison-distribution.com/english/product.php?part=HUDCSF2S onto an Open Pro – would cost way less than £150 and be great!?

after considering it for a good 45 seconds or so I’d say ‘no’ – walking across the street is harmful in some cases…

if it’s just a £40 powdercoat then it’s probably worth it to get it how you like it, eh?

Nope, not this year. March/April next year – around £1250 off the top of my head. Taking pre-orders now ;o)

Yep, echo what’s said above. I’ve commuted on mine 8-13 miles each way in all sorts of weathers every day fixed for years, toured loaded up twice over the Atlas in Morocco, raced the 3 Peaks – if I could only have one bike it would be my CrossCheck :o) The LHT is a less frisky, less versatile beast but almost as lovely.

But I would say that, we’re a Surly dealer too ;o)

    Horrible ride get a Kansai.

Great advice – they recently recalled and stopped selling them after some frames snapped. Due a relaunch next year apparently.

Birdy? Great until you want to get them fixed, tried getting hold of any replacement rims lately? took 6 weeks last time we had to do it.

There’s a reason Bromptons are so popular – smallest fold and an extensive dealer network for support and made just down the road.

Yeah, coming from Manchester so could just get off earlier though I was hoping a local may have an interesting route up their sleeve?
