guess that Salsa are about to disappear from the UK market again based on the fire sale at Lyon

yes, no and watch this space a bit. Still available from the US through a couple of dealers in the UK that have accounts.

We use the Katadyn BeFree and find it quick and easy, the MSR Holeshot works well if you can get it primed ‘just so’ but we switched to the Katadyn and wouldn’t go back.

Re. the ‘should you filter’ question – we’ve filled a bottle from a fast flowing source at 3500m in Kyrgyzstan and seen little wiggle things in it. If you have to ask you should probably filter.

more than you wanted to know about riding a tandem in proper big hills. You’ll have to push a bit but with the right mindset it’s all doable 😉

Yup, another vote for fix & sell. No reason to keep it if you’re not using it.

So, those who have given up on the Classic, what do you move on to? I’m a bit tempted by the Ruby but is it really a step up?

you could try contacting the UK importer, they might know?

@hooja – yes, open a Paypal dispute. I was told earlier that both shops had been cleared out.

recent news is that both shops have now been emptied of stock so yes, shutters will probably be down :o(

this made me smile from Andy Kirkpatrick earlier…

Peter Hitchens @ClarkeMicah, the brother of the late Christopher, a man easy to dislike, but who puts the ‘right’ into right wing (i.e. he’s right about most things), once said that when you lost the word ‘force’ from the UK Police and replaced it with ‘service’ it was an invitation for criminals to prey on society (I can remember when the police would give you a thump and scared the shit out of you, while now they’re just social workers in stab vests). Anyway, although I don’t live in the UK it’s great to see predators being run down by some by force, not simply serviced.

Probably gives one a different perspective spending a lot of time in the city but a bit of zero tolerance wouldn’t go amiss in Manchester at the moment.

    @vinnyeh

yes, Cardigan’s my hometown, so I thought of them too.

One company is restarting a factory & employing people as I understand it, the other’s are placing orders with existing factories. Not saying that’s wrong, it’s just different.

We’ve had an 08 Clubman Cooper S since Jan this year, in preference to a eurobox that would have been super dull.

It does 35mpg, goes quick enough, can really press on if required, as you’d expect with 170bhp in a dinky car. Handling seems fine but would echo to ditch the runflats. Plenty of room in the Clubman for two short people and a terrier and the panoramic roof is ace, though can be a bit sticky. Doesn’t use an any oil, maybe we don’t drive it hard enough? It’s on about 90k now and had a rebuild at 70 ish due to the coking that’s common and it had the new chain too.

@daffy ha ha that’s ours! so far so good. Can’t get over 35 mpg tho, but it ain’t about that.

We got an 08 plate Cooper S Clubman for £4500 in Jan. It’s been bucketloads of fun and reliable so far… Couldn’t face any Eurobox type alternative.

wheels are probably on the roof rack…

hmmm, yeah, that’s a very idealistic picture isn’t it? Where are the wheels?

    mocha

    er, does this work…

that was before we got it lined, insulated, leisure battery & led’s in the roof.

    So it looked like this,

then we added the pod for brews & washing.

As was mentioned, a pop top would be nice to sleep without a pedal inbetween your toes but unjustifiable for the use it gets. Around £4k at our reckoning, eek.

It’s being able to use it day to day for big stuff that’s key for us.

Now we’ve lived with the LWB t5 for a bit I think some sort of a sectioned off bike store at the rear would work best, keeps the mud out of the way. If you don’t have a bulkhead swivel seats will provide loads more room than we’ve got but we value security so we can leave bikes in and wander off. We had a side slide bed made so that we can still shift relatively big items when using the van day to day (like the cargo bike or tandem!)

With the bed slid out you can fit 2 bikes front wheels off sideways between the bulkhead and the bed, easier if we hadn’t put a pod in that space too though… and secure them to the bulkhead to stop them flailing around.

Maybe I got the Omega Boutique on a good day then as they were really helpful. When I didn’t want a new strap Omega put the old one back on too. Odd.

    Anyway, minefield of FWP.

Mine was around £300 when I took it into the shop around the corner from St Annes Sq – the one that used to be Habitat? Anyway came back very shiney :o) They did want to replace the strap though which would have almost doubled the price iirc eeek!

Schwalbe Rock Razor on the back of ours. Very tough yet fast rolling. Survived the HTR550, that’ll do.

Too many blow out type failures to be going back to Conti.

Not sure it’s just for the owners.
We feed our Border raw as she used to leave her kibble and just graze periodically. Now she scoffs it all in 30 seconds and job’s done. Teeth are a little better too. Less poo and less smelly, depending on what she’s scavenged from the hedgerows…

Riddoch and Normal Man, they’re £35 plus £3 (edit oops…) post. Didn’t know there was a black tax, we sell them both at the same price.

Give us a bell if you still need one…

(edit 2 apparently the black’s have recently gone up, we had stock before that happened).

We have silver or black Spur bells if anyone needs one.

If you think “from” £1000 is “dear” for a full custom Ti frame designed and supported by us, then I’m doing something wrong.

    No.

I think you need to reset your perception of what is expensive for a ti frame.

    Yes.

Why not just run 2 cables to the hub and unplug the Revo when you want full charging power?
