I started as programmer in late 90s, worked in few industries and then slipped into team lead and then to project manager role. I have been working as pm for over 20 years with some consulting jobs between my own projects.

I can’t find my way around modern frameworks to be productive as a programmer anymore but can still ask awkward questions about process logic and error handling from the devs.

I have Onyx hubs planned for my next major upgrade. Perhaps next year if I’m lucky.
Got one used rear hub for sons bike and have been wanting one ever since. Unfortunately there aren’t any used ones available for silly Superboost hub standard.

I would go for one of those runners belts or minimal waist / bum bag like Evoc Race Belt instead of using jersey pockets for phone and keys.

My helmets become unusable when paddings deteriorate – some helmets have silly complicated forehead paddings which are not easily replaced or mfgr has stopped supporting the model after few years. Looking at throwing my Sweet Protection helmet to thrash because of this reason. I have tried to sew in new pads without success, silly strap is too weak for that

Also lack of spares for complex retention systems makes helmets unusable. Thrashed my Specialized Propero because of this.

90s Porsche bikes were from Votec which were quite mad but apparently quite good for full suspension bikes back then. The Votec brand is now reborn after bankruptcy and much duller.

Almost same story with Mercedes bikes which were rebranded AMP bikes with that cool parallelogram fork.

Is there any room for other stories after WCA submits some of his stories?

Too bad this was not about travel injuries, I’m now starting day 24 at hospital ward, might get released on Monday if I’m lucky.

    Might try these next.
Pearl Izumi has similar product but they seem work only on easier rides for me. In any high effort riding they don’t stay put and contents need to be adjusted often.
Gore Bikewear C3 and C5 inner shorts are great but they have quite thick chamois.

Immortal, 2004 film based on Enki Bilals graphic novels. They chose to blend in live actors and variety of less-than-perfect-CGI characters to underline certain characters synthetic nature which made most viewers hate it from the very first seconds.
The plot doesn’t make any sense in the books either but I really like the lost, absurd and hopeless feeling of the movie. It is probably 2/5 star film for most people.

The original Bladerunner I love too, I think I have box  which has most versions of the film. And that old PC game.

I’m very fussy about my saddle adjustment and I need to move my saddle forward and down a bit when switching to flats.
Somehow this small adjustment also helps with  keeping my feet properly over pedal axles.

I have posted this before but here it is again: notice that Bont measures their size lengthwise from second toe. This will affect sizing, a full number on my case.
Anyway, my son now has pretty good shoe for occasional turbo training. And for a good price, I recall paying under 90€ for them.

I have had good luck with Julbo Rush and Stream -series, they have vented lenses and some tech on inside of the lens to help with fogging. Any fogging is cleared really fast but I have to say the inside is somewhat difficult to clean.

    – are you still working for the NYC Tourist Board?

No but I’m still in hospital due nasty food poisoning I picked in DC. For real, tomorrow will be 9th day in ward. Plus one 15hr spell in GWU Hospital.

That might be reason for lack of post-holiday happiness.

    Few more tips:

    • The railway stations are massive and you might not know the track until 15 minutes the train is leaving. This is bit annoying in places like Moynihan hall which has subpar announcements and does not have normal time table display.
    • Central Park is truly nice on a sunny day
    • Most payments were done with NFC but some restaurants still take your credit card to backroom for some reason.

I’m glad that we went but I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.

Spent 6 days in New York and few more days in DC with family over the Easter, here my thoughts and experiences:

    • Highline: overrated, I didn’t see point walking in queu on converted tracks. You see something other than streetlevel but not much. Probably beautiful when trees and flowers blossom
    • Battery Park: It is mostly construction site until 2025 and view to Statue of Liberty is blocked.
    • Edge viewing platform: ok
    • Times Square: I personally didn’t get anything out of it, family loved it
    • Intrepid: It is good but National Air and Space Museum in Dulles DC is vastly better (also museums in DC are free but may require timed entry) as it has real shuttle and interesting planes. The shuttle on Intrepid is prototype which hasn’t been in space
    • Most NYC museums are nice but expensive and you still might need to stand in line for hour despite prebooked tickets.
    • Location of accommodation might not be that important if it is close to subway. Uber rides take twice the time but some locations are not easy to reach with subway
    • Name of place for cheap tickets to Broadway is TCKT (?) and they have few locations.
    • Food is quite expensive with tipping. Some good and bad experiences, it is a recommended to check recent online comments as Lonely Planet recommendations from last year might be off.
    • Got to love some of the NYC attitude, e.g. one storage unit had huge advert saying ”Store old stuff here, not in White House”

One thing about changing jobs after very long time at same employer – it seems that first new job might work similarly to first new relationship after divorce. Some people will get lucky immediately after jump and some don’t.

That is my interpretation based on friends recent  career moves – l am about to get personal experience on that next week as I’m starting at new company. Spent +25 years at current company with 10 titles and dozens of projects.

Why not try Tidal on Apple TV on current setup first? There is probably a trial period on Tidal.
And specifically run the Tidal from Apple TV and not from phone to Apple TV to avoid any bluetooth sound quality issues.

I enjoyed the Tidal sound quality (or is it just trick on EQ settings) but app was so annoying and buggy that I went back to Spotify. This was last summer so things may have improved.

    >Audi, like other manufacturers, build vars with some specifications already in. You can pay to unlock them for a
    >month, 12 months or longer. They’ve had this for a few years.

Especially for features like navigation this makes some sense, there is already all the hardware for navigation because of eCall requirement but I really wouldn’t want to pay 3000€ for Audi navigation when Carplay/Androida Auto alternatives work well. Although last summer on my rental car the Audi navigation worked better than Apple Maps in Germany and Austria, it had more up to date traffic information and routing options to avoid Stau.

For people playing for features like themes and mood lights colours I really have no words

In Finnish climbing terms the inevitable packing – unpacking – gear selection – packing – unpacking -cycle related to any climbing trips is called välppäys.

Swedish friends refer persons who are overly pedant about their gear as prylbög but that is not really same as faffing before start.

Why do no cycling companies make these. IE with back pockets, long back,

My old cannondale polartec 100s came with the standard 3 back pockets.

Please someone tell me I’m wrong

They do but prices are high. E.g. Rab Cinder Ridgeline is basically fleece with some windproof panels and pockets: https://rab.equipment/eu/mens-cinder-ridgeline-jacket

I got mine from -40% sale and price still felt bith steep.

It is somewhat confusing to know what model is being reviewed as Spec recycles model names for completely different tyres.

This review shows 2 of the latest incarnations: https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear/the-popular-specialized-purgatory-trail-tire-got-a-major-update-review/

I have both but not a too much time on latest one, it is quite ok on T7 as front tyre but not awesome. Previous one with wide paddles was pretty good rear tyre overall except on wet offcamber where it skated uncontrollably.

Curious to see how badly it will turn out.

It is one of my favourite books, no matter that some technical details have been outdated. There is lot of neat world building with little details that matter and main character is fairly believable in that world.

Previous version of this coffee making device wore out after about 300 cups – it started to leak around filter holder because the plastic tabs holding it are not designed to allow any wear in them. Looks like the new one will suffer from same issue eventually.

Too bad, the twist action was bit nicer than Aeropress because it does not put any pressure on the cup. It is quite a bit heavier than Aeropress though.

3 series x drive sits higher than a rwd 3 series so will be less aerodynamic as well as heavier.

I believe they also don’t handle as well as the rwd if you are in to that kind of thing

This is not true, on this market all xdrive 3 series on (F31) were delivered on sport suspension unless specified otherwise as factory order. Also with Audi,  VW and Merc can be ordered with different suspension heights with or without 4WD – the highest configuration is usually about 30 mm higher than standard. And Allroad / Alltrack versions are even higher.
There is some difference in handling or at least different feeling in steering when comparing rwd and xdrive 3-series.

All the regular sensible options seem to be already mentioned above.

I found this shoe at my local shop https://global.danner.com/trail-2650/trail-2650-3-timber-wolf-bone-brown.html Danner Trail 2650 which felt like an excellent option but the midsole is so soft that it felt like stepping through it. I’m +90kg though so someone lighter might enjoy these.

Rucking for sake of it is dumb, at this point I’m not doing it without some reason like getting to hills for a lunch, fixing trails or going hiking. Yesterday I walked to shop and back for groceries, good exercise and useful at the same.

It really can’t be the best fork out there, the damping seems to be somewhat different per each fork, it might not be possible to have it work on big and small hits on same setup and some haved needed bushings readjusted.

Sold mine and got different fork with different issues – I only miss the 36 on bike park days which I do 1-2 per year.

Painful knees here too. For me there doesn’t seem to be one correct value for Q factor, just the notion that change between bikes irritates my knees.
Changing to shorter narrower cranks on my Superboost bike seems to have helped a bit but gravel bike felt most comfortable last year.
Flats don’t help at all but still use them occasionally.

OneDrive is a bit of a pig to use tbh, between the capacity limits

What are your capacity requirements? Basic business subscription for Onedrive is 5 dollars per month for 1TB, it isn’t too bad.

Just add hood and you are “on trend”. Add a dash of cashmere and it’s just the best item of clothing I own! It’s still a cardigan though 😀

I hate hoods on these things. Best ever version is old Rapha Merino Track Top, just checked receipt from my archive and it is from 2011. How many more Dad points from having proper archive and over decade old favourite clothes?

Zippered cardigans. Possible style crimes become secondary concern as these are lovely when suffering from rotator cuff injury.

What a horrible drivetrain on otherwise nice car. On snowy roads you don’t know whether it is going to understeer or oversteer, it is possible to force 4WD on but that will eat the EV mileage.

Interesting cultural differences, everytime I go to cheap lunch places in Helsinki centre there is bunch of construction workers who usually have a Mora knifes  and hammers on their work vests. No one panics, not even security people or police who are eating at same locale.

Left for summer holiday with bikes a day earlier, intending to overnight in a hotel. At hotel car park when I’m unloading the bikes for more secure storage I find out that I don’t have correct key to Thule rack to unlock the other bike from it. I then recall ‘organizing the keys’ just before we left.

Breaking the lock was way too easy, I’ll never trust them again for anything.

A nice EV would be much faster and just as big inside 😁

Faster at destination? There isn’t any EV yet which would faster at destination than regular diesel estate on my holiday drives. Especially during winter and/or having anything on the roof.

I follow speed limits as we have insanely expensive speeding fines here.

There isn’t obvious alternative, I got Recons too but they really are a summer shoe.

I don’t get on with Shimano shoes, most of the previous ones do feel like sock bolted on board and do not keep my foot on top of the sole.

Leatt DBX 5.0 or Lake MX168 might be suitable but their fit does not work for me.
