So it seems most people on this forum have given up mountain biking and turned to the roads!

The dune is a great bike for the money, and will be fine for a big lad, you’ll just have to play around with the tyre pressures to find what suits you.
I don’t think you can buy better for the money personally.

“I don’t give. A rats arse what you call them I love mine and it’s got me back out riding which is brill for my mental health”

    Great reply, couldn’t agree more!

Well i was going to pull the trigger on the btwin 520 but they’ve got non in stock!
I’ve found this which looks good to me but what do you lot think of it?i am fully aware of planetx customer service reputation but i have had decent service from them myself in the past.

Thanks for the offers of the very nice used bikes, but if I was buying second hand I would definitely like it to be local so I could go and have a look and try for size etc. I’m near Cannock by the way.

    Some excellent replies thanks.
To be honest I would prefer a new bike although I will go and have a look if something used and interesting comes up local.Uts not easy when you don’t know what you’re on about/looking at though. I’m not too bothered about bling, for reference I have a calibre dune fat bike and a giant anthem full sus that I’m happy enough with.
The Merlin looks interesting but at 53cn would be too small I think, I’m a smidge under 5’10.
This year’s Merlin has been downgraded to claris? I believe if that matters?
I will have a look at the other bikes mentioned and I’m completely open to the idea of a gravel/cx bike.
    Keep em coming please.cheers

I haven’t got one but I’ve been having the same thoughts as you, looking between something like a whyte 901 and the bossnut.

I know a few have had a problem with the rear wheel touching the seat tube on the calibre when the rear shock is fully compressed but the problem has apparently been sorted now?.
There are a couple of new ones coming soon with slight changes to the frame, the v2 in orange/red which looks a lot nicer than the present white one,and an upgraded one ,the “beastnut” which has a longer Revolution fork ,a dropper and a few upgraded components for a few hundred more.
They were on gooutdoors website last week but aren’t there today?
I’m gonna wait and have a look at them.

The new bossnut looks good in the red, hadn’t seen that before,i wonder if they sorted out the problem of the wheel touching the frame on the new one?,if so that would cost you almost nothing after selling the whyte frame and leftover parts.

Wot he said^^^its not a pop about how much money people have or spend, but some of the stuff, bikes components, clothing is just blatantly over the top expensive poor value for money (in my opinion)

As a long term shop floor worker for a large multi billion pound British manufacturer , I feel we need unions more than ever before.
Zero hour contracts, unpaid overtime, banked hours, exploitation of agency staff, annual lay offs, massive inequality, etc, etc are/have become the norm ,whilst the corporations profits go through the roof.

Have you ever ridden one?I haven’t personally but a mate of mine has one ,he is a big ducati fan but he doesn’t like the 999 for normal road riding .He loves if for track days and fast A roads but he says it is horrible/ impossible in slow moving town traffic. But i guess you wouldn’t buy a 999 if that was the type of riding you do a lot of would you?

Just had a look on lingscars ,that is one mad website , brilliant.
The reviews on them seem pretty good too.
I have never considered leasing a car before ,I’ve always bought older cars, at least 3 years old, for cash and kept them for 5+ years .This has worked well for me as i have been lucky and not yet bought a lemon and have never had any expensive repair bills.
However £161 a month including ved for a brand new Nissan duke thing on lingscars seems like a great deal to me for worry free motoring and no tax or MOT’s .
I am not particularly interested in cars though and have no idea if a Nissan duke is good or bad?But when the time comes for a new motor i will certainly be having a look at what is available on there.

Great find thanks, just had my Humvees delivered, I’m a little bit gutted because I bought some last week for £30 from swinnertons which I thought was a bargain at the time, just decided to order another pair and now they’re £30 on wiggle.

Cheers,I stand corrected. That was what was putting me off the vivoactive.
It’s a shame they haven’t done that for the edge 25 as that seems to be the only criticism of them.
    Maybe they will/have?

    vivoactive hr has 1s recording

Are you sure? according to dcrainmaker it’s smart recording only. This is from the review.

“Overall, for the vast majority of runners, the Vivoactive HR is a solid running watch. Note though that despite earlier statements from Garmin otherwise, the Vivoactive HR does NOT have 1-second recording rates (uses Smart Recording)”.

I’ve been looking for the same thing recently,I almost went for an edge 25,but like you I read about the problems of inaccurate recording when riding tight twisty trails, because they don’t have the 1 second recording, the Garmin vivoactive is the same I believe.
Someone on here suggested the Bryton rider 100,310, etc, the 100 is a similar size to the edge 25 and does have 1 second recording,I haven’t tried one myself but most reviews seem pretty good, although there are some reports of the USB connection coming loose.
They seem to be available for £50-60 ,and £70 odd for the 310 which is a bit bigger. There is also one with mapping on,the 530 for about£135.Think I’m going to give one a try soon.

I had the same doubts in the back of my mind last year, but decided to go,stayed in icmeler with my wife and 9 year old daughter in October. We all loved it,very friendly people, and a really nice place. Not once did we feel in any danger whatsoever , everyone made us feel welcome and they seemed to really like the English.
We will probably return this year at some point.

Thanks people,I have a phone that is very good for everything else so I don’t want to replace it to be honest, huawei p8,I have seen a lot of owners complaining about the same problems with strava and the likes with them though, something to do with power saving stuff, I have tried all the work arounds but it is still pretty unreliable.I will try that app linked above though and see if it improves any.
How bad are the batteries on the edge 25? and can they be set to record at 1sec?My rides are generally between 1 and 3 hours.
Do any of you use the Garmin vivoactive HR?
Wahoo looks good, but a bit pricey.

I bought mine at the beginning of October when they were reduced to £499 for a couple of weeks, not sure if that will come around again but I have noticed the calibre bossnut is reduced by£100 at the moment .Not regretted buying mine at all though and I would say it’s well worth it if you can get one for £540.

I’d be happy enough- as long as the tyre doesn’t touch the frame then it’s problem sorted isn’t it?Tyre choice is obviously going to be limited but if he’s happy with the Nobby Nic then why return the bike,? there’s not much else that competes for £899 is there?

I’ve also been trying to make my mind up between a Garmin vivoactive HR and TomTom runner 3,but then I wonder if a proper bike Garmin such as edge 25 or edge 800 type thing would be a better bet?I often lose my rides using strava/endomondo on my mobile ,any thoughts?I don’t really need mapping as I generally know where I’m riding but I would also use it for running,do the edges have running mode?

Prawny,I live on the chase,if I was only going to ride the dog/monkey -like I used to do,I would have a 29er hard tail or shortish travel full sus, however there is far more to the chase than them and the off piste stuff makes much more sense on a fatty in my opinion.

Haven’t found them too bad to be honest, I’ve ridden with people with buds/Nate’s ,45s etc and it’s gone everywhere they’ve gone.

Where have the frames been breaking?
