Just a thought, but, if you’re going to be buying an ebike wouldn’t it be worthwhile buying a mountain bike version which you could use on trails as well? After all,a road/commuter type ebike isn’t going to be much faster than a full suspension ebike is it?
I suppose a road bike would be lighter and maybe accelerate a bit quicker but the motors would both cut out at about 15mph.

That Ribble bike looks good. It doesn’t look like an E bike.

After 2 and a half years on a cheapo calibre dune ,I think fatbikes are amazing all rounders .It’s become my favourite bike yet, and I live half a mile from a trail centre and about 110 miles to the nearest beach. Have fun mate, they’re great.

Yes,calibre dune, I’ve had more fun on mine than on any other bike . Can be bought for 500 quid in gooutdoors sales, upgrade the brakes ,go tubeless and yer good to go.

Anthem 2 29er? 90mm rear 100mm front,26.5 lb , well reviewed ,£1760 at je James for a 2018 medium and should handle trail rides fine. I haven’t ridden one and have never raced though so my opinion means little 😀

Sounds like you are after the same kind of thing as I am.
The Trance 29er above sounds great. Last year’s Anthem 650b could be a good bet as well for that kind of riding ,although they’re not doing them this year which seems a shame.
The s120 looks very nice ,a bit pricey for me though.

<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>Last weekend a mate and I went out on our non electric hardtails with his dad (age 70) and his dad’s  mate  (67)on their full sus Ebikes. We did about 20 miles ,rode some nice trails and had a laugh. The 67 year old is an ex British Motocross champion and has broken most of his bones at some point and the 70 year old is recovering from multiple  knee ops. If it weren’t for ebikes neither of them would be able to go and do what we did. The  ex mxer  is  still seriously quick on downhill technical stuff as well.</span>

I’m 46 and average fitness,I don’t need an ebike yet but after having a go on theirs I know it’s only a matter of time before I have one to ride like Bennyb above. I hope im still riding at 70!

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of fat bike love left on here lately pal unfortunately.

The boardman 8.9 adv from Halfords for £1000 is well thought of I believe.

Hi, I just ran into town on the way to work , I can confirm that the shop is still there and open for business.Never had time to go in but it all looked very nice through the window.

It’s a real shop I can tell you that much, well at least it used to be. Never been in it ,and I’ve not noticed wether or not it’s still there . Most shops in Rugeley don’t seem to last very long these days unfortunately. I’ll have a look if it’s still open during the week when I go by.

    I like watching UFC.

Khabib totally dominated McGregor, which surprised me .

I thought the Ferguson fight was really good. Both fighters genuinely looked like they were enjoying themselves and had a lot of respect for each other.

Yes they have come down a bit,but the waiting list is longer than ever now! The rangers are seizing bikes now as well if you get caught without permit!

Really love riding my cheapo calibre dune.,it’s the cheapest ,heaviest, lowest spec bike I have ,but it always puts a smile on my face,it’s also my favourite bike  and it’s faster than it should be in many situations.

I have noticed lately though that fat bikes seem to be a dying breed and there seems to be few manufacturers selling them for 2019.Has anyone else noticed this?

Also I am struggling to find a new reasonably priced crank set for mine at the moment and new tyres are eye wateringly expensive! If anyone wants to point me in the right direction I would be very grateful, but this is something that might be worth baring in mind if you are considering one.

Can anyone point me to a set of reasonably priced cranks and bottom bracket for my dune please,I would  prefer to stay 2×10 I think. I was going to go for the race Face ride but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. There are some SRAM gx 1000 cranks on eBay and ive also seen some SRAM x5 but my mind is blown by all the different sizes and options ,what bottom bracket would I need for these? Thanks

    Horses for courses!

It’s a great looking bike that will be perfect for some people in some places..

I have an arkose that is better on the road than any mountain bike I have ridden but not as good as a mountain bike on anything remotely rough.

I should imagine this would be much better off road than my arkose but still better than a mountain bike on roads.

I don’t want it or need it,but I do think it looks nice.

I bought a second hand but unused Boardman 29 pro in the winter as it was really cheap and I fancied trying a  29 hard tail but didn’t want to spend a fortune. I put my own bars, stem and pedals on it and bought a brand X dropper .

Turns out it’s a really good, well specced light bike that rides very nicely  in my opinion. Doesn’t feel tall ,short or twitchy at all. I can’t fault it.

Glad you enjoyed Cannock,it gets a bit of a hard time on here in my opinion. There are loads of good hidden  trails around the chase as well if you know where to look, probably more than ever before at the moment.

Love SPD’s on the gravel bike when riding easy trails, footpaths and fire roads etc.

Absolutely cannot handle being clipped in on technical ,slippery, rooty trails on my mountain bike though.

Do you have a Huawei mobile by any chance?if so it’s a common problem that’s never been sorted out as far as I know, mine always cuts out at around an hour, tried all the work arounds but nothings ever worked.

I use an old windows phone now without a sim  card in,never fails.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but do you have to have your phone with you  at all times for this to work?or can you synch it with the phone when you get home? Can you just use it as a stand alone device for showing miles/average speed on it  as you are riding?

Can anyone recommend me some  decent cheapish  road slicks to try on my 2017 arkose  2  please – 25mm ? 28mm?  should i use inner Tubes, and at what pressure?

I am looking to try and up my speed on the tarmac ,and it’s still on the  kenda  35mm gravel tyres it came with which are rated at 50psi max.

I’m  an off roader at heart and know nothing about road bikes /road tyres and appreciate that it may ? be the wrong bike for high road speeds, but I want to get out on the roads with a few lads from work who are on proper road bikes so I want to give myself the best possible chance of keeping up . Thanks.

👍 ah thanks,I may copy you LOL.

So I can put  an 11 speed cassette on the original wheel okay and would need 11speed specific shifter, mech, chain and chainring? All food for thought thanks.

Looks great pal, I’ve got to get round to doing similar to mine before long as I’m getting some play in the BB now ,and im still on the original 2×8 .I may  just get a race Face crank set though, still undecided about going 1x 10. What gearing are you running?

How do the tyres feel compared to the jugs? Ive never had a problem with grip with the jugs particularly but the self steer on the front does my head in when pressure is below about 9.5 psi.

I bought a brand new Boardman pro 29er off eBay for 500 quid, there are lots of them about because of cycle to work scheme I guess.

Full gx,mavic rims,120mm Reba’s, bargain.Frame is quite nice as well to be honest.

Well bloody hell. I never realised they were actually hollow!😳 I suppose the hollow tech name gives it away a bit but I always thought crank arms were solid. Never had any problems though.

I think the 2017 onward arkose got more tyre clearance than the 2016s if I remember correctly.

Jolly green giant-how do you find the 29er?

I just picked up a brand new pro off eBay for £520,  all black Reba ,full gx,guide r brakes etc. Utter bargain I think! I’ve added a dropper and put on my own bars, stem and pedals, not ridden it yet though.
