My thinking is , I’ve saved a fortune compared to a similar specced bike that I could buy locally. In fact I couldn’t afford to buy a similarly specced bike locally, and as I have a Shimano center nearby who has a good reputation I thought why not. Things may take a little longer to sort IF I have a problem but I have other non ebikes I still intend to ride so it doesn’t really matter.

I was under the impression that the Shimano e8000 was considered to be quite a reliable motor plus if you get any problems with one you can use any Shimano center for warranty work.
I hope so anyway because I ordered a German ebike yesterday.🤞

Cheers chaps, that’s great. I’ll order one of those then thanks.
Fossy, would I need any special praxis specific tools to install the praxis BB or can I make do with basic tools?

This is a picture of mine, the bolt you can see in the middle I have been able to remove but the crank is solid on the splines still. Ive given it a little bit of force with a mallet but got nowhere.
I’m not sure if it’s dub or not to be honest but the thread the cap sits into is 30mm ish ?
Don’t go to too much trouble Martin, it’s not like I can go far at the moment and I do have other bikes. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies,Nige I already have a tool like this which I have used in the past on Shimano cranks, however the threaded part of this that tightens into the crank arm is too small for the SRAM crank unfortunately.
Martinhutch that would be brilliant I would like to take you up on this offer if you manage to find it. I could send payment via PayPal?

I’ve wanted an ebike for a while as most of the people ( who are admittedly older than me) I ride with are on them and they look fun.
I don’t need one yet as I am reasonably fit and do enjoy my normal bikes still, that’s why I haven’t allowed myself one yet. I’m now at the point where I’m thinking – life’s too short etc and think I’ll pull the trigger and get one when this storm passes. Providing I still have a job etc.

Maybe have a look at the Garmin forerunner 35, simple easy to read display and cheap?

The difference being, all of those other places don’t use their outlets for political grandstanding and propaganda dissemination.

Fair comment, but personally I’ve never paid any attention to the propaganda ,never even noticed it to be honest,I just use them for a cheap breakfast, and the odd drink.
I don’t take any notice of the shit in most of the papers or on the BBC either, but I appreciate that obviously many do.

Some of us do actually but guess I am in the 0.0n% that actually gives a shit. I wouldn’t knowingly support a person such as Tim Martin by adding to his profits.

Fair enough, good on you, perhaps I should give it a bit more thought in the future

Me and the Mrs love a spoons to be honest. We always sniff one out when staying away for weekends etc. In fact we had breakfast in one today .
I can honestly say we’ve never had bad food or drinks in any of them and no-one can argue with the prices ,can they?
I also like what they’ve done to some of the old buildings that would be boarded up and derelict otherwise.
I can’t stand Tim or his politics, but we don’t ask the political views or voting intentions of other shops , restaurant ,manufacturers, etc owners before we spend our money with them.

    That looks amazing!
I’d like to try it somewhere warm though because I don’t like the cold.

You don’t sound blown away by it.
How many miles did you get out of the battery?
I’m considering an ebike ,I definitely don’t need one but I think they would just make rides a lot more fun. I could be wrong from your description 🤔. Enjoy.

Sounds great hooja, I definitely need to get a ride on one. Hopefully there might be a second hand market come spring.

Tjagain- the tenere appeals to me because it is a has the 700 twin engine that has proved to be reliable flexible, fun, economical and it supposedly has genuine off road ability.
I haven’t ridden an adventure bike myself but as I like road bikes and have had a lifetime obsession with anything two wheeled that goes off road. I’m thinking this could be a good all rounder to go to work on, do a bit of touring, and ride some green lanes etc .
I’m getting too old for Motocross/ enduro now.
I currently have an mt09 and my other thought is to swop this for a used tracer 700/900 and get a small trail bike – crf250l or similar for green lanes but wonder are there actually enough green lanes to even justify a trail bike any more? (Peak District)

So ,did anyone get one? Or anyone else test ride one ?
I’m in the considering for next year camp and haven’t ridden one yet but can’t stop looking at these.

Tenere 700 if off road is to feature into your riding.
Looks like Yamaha have hit the nail on the head for a true go anywhere ,cheap, fun , economical, adventure bike.
Should be fun and reliable as well as the cp2 engine has proved in the mt07 and tracer.
If you don’t want to go off road and big miles on the road is your thing then one of the already mentioned bikes above would probably be better. Also consider tracer 900?

Did you manage to find anything out? I’ve been looking for a cheapish crank and BB for mine for ages but all the different sizes, specs etc blow my mind!

Cheers for the tips, I’ll investigate further later, will just have to put up with the creak for the moment lol.

    Damn! Help required please.
I have a 2017 arkose 2 that has developed a bit of a creak from what I thought was probably the bottom bracket so this morning I decided to remove the cranks and give the BB a clean and grease.
I watched a couple of YouTube videos first and it looked pretty straight forward with the self extracting bolt thing.
I began to undo the inner bolt which was pretty tight at first but then loosened off until it seated onto the outer ring and it tightened up again as the videos suggested it would . So without paying much attention to what was happening I used a bit of force and wound the bolt out thinking the crank was starting to release as expected,at this point it all went loose and I realised I had sheared the top of the outer ring off and left half the threads inside the crank! DOH!
So my question is – how can I remove the cranks now ? And if I have to scrap the crank to remove it (grinder etc) what would be a decent alternative without costing a small fortune?
It is currently 2×10 with 48 32 upfront and 32 rear cassette which I was ok with but open to other sensibly priced solutions.
    Cheers.

Cmc Cannock have some good kit in the sales although you will have missed it this year now. But they do have a sales outlet in Chesterfield which is worth a look at if you go up that way, I bought an Agv helmet , waterproof textile jacket, trousers and gloves last year all with 50% off.
Fair play for cycling that far every day for 3 years!

Congratulations, they are a great cheap bike.
The split tube method with a strip of foam camping mat worked for me but it was a bit of a pain in the arse to say the least. A compressor helps.

Unlucky. Mines coming up to 2.5 years , it’s had a pretty hard life and many of the parts are well worn or have already been replaced but the frame is still holding up, even the paintwork still looks pretty good.
To be honest if it died now I would have had my money’s worth many times over and I’d consider buying another one
Did the frames break near the bottom bracket / chainstay area?

Crikey the mason in search of that Charlie mentioned earlier in the thread can take upto 29 x 2.4 or 650b X 2.8 tyres! That’s bigger than I can get on my mountain bikes.

But- a gravel bike is better on the roads than a mountain bike and better off road than a road bike. It’s win win 😁
