I have a stainless one, bought ready cut to size. It’s brushed and not to hard to keep clean and I’m pretty happy with it after about 7 or 8 year’s use..

I think mine is pretty much the same as this Screwfix linky

I guess you are looking at the 2nd generation (bigger screen) G vs the older 4g? I have the 1st generation non-4g version and the only issue I have is the lack of a micro SD slot as I have the 8Gb version which only really has about 5.5Gb of useable space.

That aside it’s a great phone – does everything I need and the battery life is ace.

Hmm – just went through and chose the £19.99 option – I got an email to confirm the order, but it doesn’t mention the light just that the subscription is £24.99, nut £19.99 for the first six months.

I’ve taken screenshots of all the pages showing the offer, so hopefully have something to use to argue my case if the light doesn’t turn up…

Good spot OP , I’m just annoyed I didn’t see this at the time. Trying to decide if it’s worth a punt now seeing as the links still work…

I’m guessing WS may be Winstanleys? Their site shows 51 and 54cm frames in stock at £1124

I keep reading this thread despite the fact there is no way I can justify a new bike, but god I wish I had one – it looks like my perfect bike…

I have QNAP that I am very happy with – it sits there quietly serving up video to my TV, audio to my squeezeboxes, works as a time machine backup destination for my Mac and I’m just looking at setting it up as a CCTV recorder.

I think QNAP and Synology are generally regarded as the better options over the similar DLink, Zyxel, etc equivalents. I guess the test comes with ongoing support and future updates.

I think moving your current disk to a NAS will result in the NAS wanting to format it so you may need to work out a way to backup your data first.

I find the GP 4 seasons much grippier in the wet, but more puncture prone.

I second this exactly. I covered a good 2000+ miles on a set of Gatorskins with no punctures, but swapped to GP4S after some sketchy cornering experiences last winter. I find the GP4S much more confindence inspiring, but have had a three punctures and a small tear in one tyre in about 1500 miles of riding.

I have a couple of Bodum ones which are excellent. One has a cafetiere bit too so I get have a proper coffee with minimal hassle in the mornings.

They do a good job at keeping in the heat – a drink I make at 06:30 is still good and hot two hours later. They also seem pretty good at not leaking.

On the downside they are expensive and quite big and don’t fit in small cup holders in cars – eg they are fine in the door holder of an Octavia, but not the centre console holders.

Hope this helps.

Yep. I’m seeing this. Often it happens when I try to zoom on a page. I assumed it was related to me running cyanogen on my tablet, but I guess maybe not…

I tried a cheap RSP one but it got lots of water in it quickly and stopped working. In the end I got a knog blinder which was about 25 quid but seems pretty good. It’s very bright has several flashing modes and the USB plug is built in so you don’t need a cable to charge it.

I got one for £100 from vodafone’s website a while and unlocked it with one of the £2 ebay codes. Not sure if they still have them at that price…

I don’t have one of these but got interested when I saw this piece a while back – BoingBoing Article

I have a good amp, but I was interested in some small cheap speakers for my desk – I like the sound of the Micca MB42s mentioned in the comments to the article, but can’t find them in the UK – does anyone have a recommendation for something similar, compact and cheap?

Apologies for taking this slightly off topic…

@bikebouy – great info, thanks.

I shall have a look at the website and will grab the maps from there.

My plan to get home was to hop on the train at Portsmouth as you suggest – I’ll either get a train back to Haslemere and ride home, if the legs feel okay, or maybe to Guildford if my other half can collect me from there.

Just need to find a weekend when my wife can occupy the kids for the day now…

We’ll I did the Shipwrights Way yesterday, I really enjoyed it.

@ Bikebouy – I’m looking to do this later in the year – did you find it all CX bike friendly? It’s going to be my first long ride on a CX bike with 34/27 as the lowest gear and I was wondering how hilly it is?

I live in Farnham and have done the section out towards Bordon a few times on my MTB but no further than that – did you road ride from Bordon to Liphook or is the whole route now complete?

Thanks for any advice…

Hi,

AS far as I recall the Humax HDR-Fox-T2 is more tweakable than the newer model or the YouView box and I think the YouView box also lacks some of its features in the stock firmware (but obviously has YouView features instead).

Recently got a Moto G and am very happy with it. I just charged it today when it got down to less than 20% charge after 3 days and 12 hours (very light use though).

Seems much better than past phones that I have had – e.g. SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus

I think you also get some now if you pay for a premium Strava subscription – I think you can then watch them on your phone.

Sorry for being vague but just going on the memory of an email I saw a few weeks back…

+1 for what Ben_mw says above.

The Amex gold gives a good sign up bonus (20K points I think), is free for the first year and gives double points on supermarket and travel spend in the first year. This doubles up at supermarket fuel stations so an £80 tank of fuel earns 240 Amex MR points = 240 airline miles or lots of other reward options.

Amex is accepted at all major supermarkets, train companies and department stores – over 90% of my spending goes on one…

I don’t work for Amex 🙂

Patagonia – I’ve had one for the last 8 years or so. It’s had lots of use, been round the world with me and still looks like new.

Plus they are supposed to have excellent customer service if you ever need it repaired…

Another vote for an 853 Genesis Altitude here – I picked a frame up on here a while back and love it.

Hi again,

Just a quick update to say thanks for the tips – all sorted with the addition of the new chain and cassette.

So for anyone interested to see my “cheap” build here is my Pro built with 105, Deda stem, FSA bars and a Eddy Merckx carbon post:

Scott CR1 Build by mlpinto1976, on Flickr

Now before anyone starts, I know:
– the patio is a disgrace
– the wheels are mismatched (temporary until the bank balance recovers)
– it has an MTB saddle
– it has slightly unconventional pedals
– tyres / valve alignment
– etc, etc

Even worse it now has a non carbon bottle cage and a pump 🙂

It’s my first carbon bike and replaces an old, old alu road bike that was a bit too big for me.

First impressions from a quick 10 miles on it are that it is unbelievably comfy compared to the old bike, fits me much better and is really fast accelerating. I think I’m going to enjoy this 😀

If any one has a front Aksium they need to rehome, let me know…

Cheers!

Bah – I deliberated too long whether to go 105 or Ultegra and now Ribble have sold out of the grey Ultegra at £550 with no idea of when they may get more stock.

Has anyone seen anywhere else doing it at that price before I order it from Merlin at £580?

Here’s hoping that my pro is a bit more comfy than the SL…

I spoke to the shop today and they are happy to fit the headset before shipping it out. They said that stock is due to them tomorrow and to expect delivery on Thursday or Friday (I ordered on Saturday).

Curse this site! I now have a 54cm pro on order…

I now need to find a cheap groupset to build it up with – any suggestions for anything better that a 105 groupset for £400 from Merlin?

Wheels for now will be my current Mavic Aksiums so that just leaves me some finishing kit to find.

Can’t wait to build it 🙂

Yep. I had one for about three years. Same type you’re thinking of. It was a classic Alfa really – it had a few erratic electrical issues and a battery problem that meant it went flat if not driven for a few days (even with a new battery). However, the engine was great and I could get 700 motorway miles on a tank, it was a joy to drive and I loved having it. It is also surprisingly practical with useable rear seats and a decent sized boot.

Wouldn’t have another now though 🙂

Can’t offer a solution but I have the same dilemma at the moment so will watch this with interest. I want to replace an old Alu road bike with something more comfy and versatile.

I like the idea of being able to fit mudguards and a rack which is easy with many road bikes. However, the idea of being able to fit knobblies for the occasional off road ride (eg Downs Link or local bridleways) also appeals, as do discs.

I kind of assume that a cross bike fitted with road tyres would be as fast for me as my current 20lb road bike, but I’m not sure.

Either way I really like the look of a Lynskey Cooper CX…
