If any of the members are discovered to be be in this group after being in a RTA involving cyclists then it’s not going to look too good in court is it?

Re not using the plastic clips.
They are really useful safety features as they are designed to fail and stop the front wheel locking up if you’re unlucky enough to have something jam between guard and front tyre.
    I strongly recommend using them

Depending on traffic / location I’ll either wait in the dominant road position (behind no. plate) or overtake on the right fastish or carefully shuffle up on the left.
Out of those the left shuffle feels the least safe due to risk of getting doored or squished when I’m ignored as the traffic moves or most recently cars deciding to drive half on the pavement.
My worst habit is not always checking right shoulder when when taking the white line right side option. I’m working on that one.

Has any one else helpful thoughts on GPSs?

Airnimal chameleon – I thought it would do everything a road bike would do but would fold for work.
I found it heavy with twitchy steering, a horribly harsh ride and it didn’t fold that easy.
I should have bought either a proper folder or a real road bike.
    Both maybe

I’d be really interested in hearing how that works out for you Thomthumb

Nice idea – what sort of accommodation are you looking for- wild camping /bunk house/ BandB?
I’d be tempted to go for something like Kirk Yethom or Wooler to Alwinton but route determined by overnight needs

26 at the back with a fat tyre at the front is surely the next asymmetric wheel combo to become high fashion

Yup seek Purdy guide is a perfect start. Keilder has some marked routes. I like Cheviots the best.

Good on you for getting back on the bike
Oh and a second vote for considering stoking a tandem as they’re a hoot

I think it’s safest to assume they’re dangerous and to avoid routes with cows in if possible. On rare occasions they do kill or seriously injure people and it’s a sh1te way to go – if you want to impress your pals by being killed by an animal then make it a crocodile or a mountain lion and not bloody Ermintrude.
Definitely be extra wary of cows with calves. Newcastle town moor is one of the few places I ‘ll regularly bike accross with cows in as I assume they’re people tolerant and the farmers will be wary of litigation so pick the right breed/whatever.
Another issue is fields with cows in usually are rubbish to bike on as the trails are really chewed up by hoof prints.

Just checked the site. You can’t buy Quack Fam shoes without substantial facial hair or flowing locks and unfortunately I fail on both counts.

Run ’em as high as the tyre likes with inner tubes.
I’ve got 32mm tyres upto 80 odd psi and haven’t died once

Like them for ultra wet days on a mountain bike.
Whatever the weather on a commute I will wear a hat / jacket because it’s really dangerous not to be able to hear well and hoods can also restrict vision

This looks just what I’m after. Does anyone in the trade know when they’ll be available at ideally vaguely affordable prices?

Dunno what the fuss is about. It looks like an insignificant short film to fill in time before the next proper video. I’d be interested as to why they filmed it – maybe had an offer of the location and had a couple days of filming him doing old tricks in a new location?
Bunny girls were probably supposed to be “ironic” or something but don’t really add anything. I really liked the first Edinburgh shoot and the Imagination one – toys / tanks etc

Yup it was a cracking event, I support all the above positive comments. Good signage, efficient registration and cheery organisers. Non event locals seemed friendly, I heard one lady, possibly in her 70s saying “OOh if I’d known it was today, I’d have brought my 3 speed.”
I was a “Biggest” bailer and have no regrets as the “Bigger” ride was just fine and dandy and wet and knackering and fun enough.

    I’m up for it.
Do especially each route have the same lead out so you can take a shorter route if the legs aren’t feeling great?

Re Ironcross – I have these with Hope hubs on my CdF equivalent – a vaya. They are fine with 90psi tyres. I think the lower limit refers to running tubeless

Getting over fences gates styles and that sort of thing seemed a bit of a faff and my old panniers occasionally detached on bounces descents. But overall work ok

I use flats on my road bike for the same reason – I don’t want to carry work shoes.
I problem I’ve found is I have a lot of pedal strikes partly cos of the low bottom bracket on my road bike.
dunno if there’s a decent cheap it thinnish set of flats out there?

I’m v happy with my Salsa va?a with TRP hydraulic discs and bar end shifters. I’ve always hated cantis and think discs are fab in the wet.
I got a good deal on the frame putting it under your budget but dunno what’s available now.

My rule of thumb is wait til Shimano have released a new tech on 105/LX so the price is down and there’s been 2/3 years of real world testing.

Car it’s a 1.6 diesel VW engine in a skoda Octavia.
I can’t remember the exact words they used to describe the flywheel something on the lines of more movement/play than usual.

    Thanks for the responses btw

swrve do some “look like ordinary” black trousers. I mostly use those for work but they’re over priced.
I’ve a pair of M+S cycling chinos which are ok with a few cycling adaptions – pull out reflective tabs and possibly a more cycling cut.

Alternatively go Danish and just wear ordinary office clothes and don’t bike so fast.

Purple anodizing is back; we’re entering a retro era of 1 inch quill stems , little straight bars and 1.5 inch tyres

I’ve been v happy with my Brooks saddles for commuting, rough tracks and road biking. I’m not sure I’d want one on a hard tail on any thing technical as it will get trashed and isn’t great for moving around the bike on
I prefer off-road saddles to be fit, forget and then replace which isn’t a Brooks
