    Hi Matt,

    Try a Transalp or XT660.

I’m 6’1 and started on a CG125,then an SV both a little on the small side but the SV is fun.

On a 650 Transalp now-it should tick most of your boxes.

Top film Hardware.Got the 2000ad future shock it’s based on and who wouldn’t get in a taxi with Lemmy?
PIL and Gwar on the soundtrack.
Current issue dvd has some good extras with a short called children of the moon,a documentary about the Soviet rout in Afghanistan 20 something years ago.

    I’ve had a 29er for 10 years,a 26er for 20+,also raced a 69er for a few years-all just bikes-horses for courses.
The most sense on this thread so far has been from Brant.

Run whatever you have, enjoy the trail and stop bitching about nothing.

Currently crisp and dry in the west.I have read the route and printed it.Not ridden it yet though. Most of my road knowledge is west/mid Waleshire. Can string something together if Shedbrewed not out to play.

Sometime tomorrow morning (pre 7am if possible) we need people to make the call if its on or not (a Welsher really)

I’m a refugee! but will stick my head outside early tomorrow and post the conditions up on here before 7am.
I’m the far side of Swansea though so East Wales/borders may be a little different to where I am.

Quick query from me about Aust services…does it have a westbound and eastbound side?Or is it a pull right off the motorway job(never been)

I’d hate to be waiting on the wrong side….

I have both.Prefer the Raze if I have to do tarmac but there’s not much between them. They will both wear fairly quickly though.Mud wrestlers better in the gloop though.

Well it looks like we’ll have some rare Welsh sunshine this weekend so I’m going to try and recce the route.

Will report back with a sheep count when I’m done and won’t spend all the sunshine tokens either.

Some of the fun roads this side are

    A4061 Bridgend-Hirwaun then A4059 up to the A470.
From there you can hit Brecon or Sennybridge with or without a bit of the A40.
Then you have either the A40 to Llandovery,A4069 over Black Mountain or
    A4067.

They all drop back onto the A465 or M4 for a quick run back.

Loads of lovely roads that I kind of know.Usually ride them on my own and I’m by no means fast.

We could meet at Abergavenny,Monmouth or Magor services just after the bridge.

Depends how deep into Waleshire you want to come..

Open to suggestions and happy to follow…

Don’t be daft, they are all bikes. It’s all a means to a similar end.Fun in the dirt.
But whatever floats your boat is fine with me.

I’m happy to cross the bridge if someone has a route in mind?
Or there are lots of nice roads here….
    Any ideas on when?

I work not far from Llandarcy and live out by J48 of the M4,my commute is usually by motorbike but there’s a nice cycle route through the villages, along Clyne valley and then the beachfront.Flatish and mostly traffic free.About 16 miles when I choose to pedal.

I wouldn’t live in town but used to live on the western edge in Dunvant. Some parts are ok but I’d try and find a place in a village north of the motorway somewhere.

Lots of good road riding on the hills and lanes, plenty of MTB both natural and trail centre in surrounding areas.

    Town is best avoided though!

    Hi Ambrose,

I joined MTBWales a couple of weeks back and that was a mistake-it looks pretty dead, got lots of wedding dress spam mail.

I’m in Pontardulais- will have to join in one Wednesday, where do you go?

    Well thank you.
All that has cheered me up.I have been awake for 30 mins, already had 2 crappy phone calls from work, phone is now switched off and I’m off to pedal in some rare Welsh sunshine.

    Have a lovely day everyone!
