Alpine 160, but after having ridden the 2012 5 with Kashima all round and rear Maxle I’m considering doing the Mega on it and possibly flogging the Alpine, very little between them now the 5 is soooo good.

Got a P7 and love it, much more forgiving than my previous Evo4, absolutely no intention of changing, best hardtail I’ve ridden.
I’ve been riding with some lads who really know their stuff today and had a test Ragley Blue Pig. All were very impressed with it, that’s definitely worth a look.

Probably wouldn’t leave it soaking overnight, a good stiff brush and the petrol should have it looking mint in no time. I use neat Fenwicks and a stiff brush, mine comes up like new.

    My absolute favourite:

    Went to the doctors today:
Doc: you’re going to have to stop masturbating.
    Me: Whys that ?
Doc: Because I’m trying to examine you

Bloke driving down the motorway and gets stopped under a bridge by a copper with a speed camera. Bloke gets out and copper starts to patronise him, telling him off like a schoolkid. Asks him what he does for a living. Bloke says I’m an arsehole stretcher. Copper asks what that is. Well, he says, I start off with some lube, working a couple of fingers round and round until I can get a hand in. I then get two hands in and work it back and forth, round and round until it gets bigger and looser. Everntually when all the muscles are relaxed the arsehole ends up about 6 foot in diameter. And just what do you do with a 6 foot arsehole asks the copper. Stick him under a birdge with a speed camera replies the bloke :D

Don’t even think about not swapping your chain when you do the rings – total false economy. Change the chain quick before it knackers your new chainrings. If you can afford it do the cassette too, you might find the new chain slips all over your old cassette.

Congratulations Haribo, amazing journey awaits you. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes scary but always amazing. My little girl is 5 in 3 weeks and my little boy just gone 2. They light my life up every day, drive me to the brink on a regular basis but I love them like you cannot imagine unless you’ve got kids of your own. I’d step in their way to protect them from anything without a seconds thought.
It’s probably the hardest thing you’ll ever do but when people say make the most of it they’re absoluetly right.
    Enjoy my friend 8)

Its about time we let the middle east get on with their own affairs rather than blowing all the cash we don’t have on going to war with them. Admittedly Iran developing nukes is a terrible idea, just drop a daisycutter on the factory and have done.

They sent me a note saying my discount code was something like the last 4 numbers of the order number that qualified me for the voucher. Give it a try, if not try 5 or 6, can’t just remember how many numbers it was.
If no joy drop them a line, they were very helpful when I did.

That 6R4 of Will Gollops was amazing. I used to love going up to Croft watching him and Schanke battle it out. I remember John Welsh’s STP Astra too, and a yellow Renault 5 with a Cosworth engine in it. You used to be able to stroll round the pits chatting to the drivers and scrounging free tickets and stickers.

The owner of the company I work for has a fully prepped MK1 Escort, and Eg-Roger Clark MK2 RS1800 and he’s just come back from the East African Safari Classic in Kenya with his “new” Datsun 260Z.

That monstrosity on the front stops all the crap clouding your vision on enduros and fast descents. Try one and you’ll understand.

Yep, I’m well impressed, this is what customer service is all about. DJG, you can keep your Spesh, from what I’ve seen you’ll need them more often than I’ll need to trip over to Halifax
Forgot to mention, they also converted my rear Pro2 to Maxle, no cost :P

NO. The country is in a mess, we all need to make sacrifices. You’ll still all be retired well before me and my mates. I’d still swap my pension for yours any day.

I had a load of hassle like this when I bought a TV through work as a draw prize. Just ring them and say its not being used for TV viewing and you should be OK.

    5 every time.

I’ve got a 2007 5 and a 2010 Alpine. 5 climbs better and is a fair bit lighter but the Alpine can’t half descend.

Best of all, they’re BRITISH, well engineered, durable paint finish, simple suspension setup that WORKS and doesn’t need bearing changes every 6 weeks (I change my 5 bearings about every 12 months and its an easy and cheap job every time. If there’s any play on the rear and its not the swingarm bearings its the shock bushes – good luck finding the source of play on a Spicy)

My 5 just doesn’t break – its had a right hammering over the last few years, week in Alps, numerous enduros, drops, jumps and it just keeps going when others around me are having problems.

The only thing I don’t like about the 5 is the through swingarm routing of the rear brake hose. Clatters around a bit inside the swingarm on rocky descents, the Alpine is much quieter but its a small price to pay.

    I’m considering a new frame myself and if I do get one it’ll be a 2012 5.

SRAM cassettes are OK if they have a one piece carrier for the top 6 or so gears.

I guess you’ve got the indicator windows on your shifters ? Ideally you need shifters without indicators, think about upgrading to XT or XTR, the whole lot’ll fit together snugly then.

For what its worth, I’ve got a 2007 5 with Float 36’s and an Alpine with Float 180’s (yeah yeah yeah I know they’re 20mm over what Orange recommend but it feels good)
I love my 5 – it’ll do practically anything I want it to do including a real pasting during a week in Morzine and several UK enduros. The thing i like most of it is its simple reliability. If theres anything loose on the back its either the pivot bearings or the shock bushes. Either one is cheap and easy to fix. I’ve got mates on Intense and Spesh who have to shell out a load of cash on new bearings when their arse end gets loose and invariably end up replacing OEM bearings with cheap Chinese ones because its such a costly affair. I only need a pair and so can afford SKF or FAG stainless which are sealed better and last longer.
My 5 is so good at pottering round smooth flowy trails and taking on 6-8 foot drops I sometimes wonder why I built the Alpine. To be fair the 5 is just as good for the sort of riding I’m into. Having said that, The Alpine with the long forks does like the really rough stuff meaning I don’t have to pick my lines quite as carefully.
You just can’t fault the 5 – its pretty good up, its great down, strong and easy and cheap to look after and the paint finish is super durable.
