lol, a great video which shows what real skill can achieve and all singletrack wants to know is what forks he's using…

jmc died in 94 and he was using mx riser bars on his bike

…so therefore flat bars are better.

I FEAd this thread, and its got a huge stress riser in the middle of it: alex222

get your weight on the pedals with the balls of your feet, poised and ready. As tandemjeramy says more weight on the front = more grip. I'd also keep an eye on your front wheel for signs of skidding, and feather your brakes a bit. it helps if you have some brakes with good modulation like hopes.
running more front brake should help with the corner at the bottom.

Because the course isn't really rocky, steep doesn't mean it requires full sus and there are lots of short sharp climbs which hardtails excel at.
what's more, between the technical and rocky sections its actually quite a smooth fast course…

oh and because they're all pretty smooth riders not relying on suspension to smash through things!

is it worth the risk for a little over £100? bin or warranty them.

and TJ, stop postulating and trying to sound authoritative. I'm sure you mean well but someone might mistake your baseless opinions for fact. Its not your face that's at risk here.

do you need any pie charts with it?

The ports are too large, it won't make a noticeable difference. There is much more adjustment available through adding compression damping or rebound.

unless of course you're running your rebound fully on (slow) and find you need even more…
same for compression. but you can't change high speed compression damping on the moco

Glentress is a trail centre and therefore it has similar trail conditions to those found in Welsh trail centres.

Suspension forks serve to provide comfort and control over rough ground and trail obstacles.

Due to the nature of the trails one would expect to encounter at Glentress, having experienced the Welsh trail centres, a large volume tyre would suffice in place of suspension forks on a rigid bike.

Trail centres are known to lack loose technical climbs and steep ascents and are therefore inherently suitable for singlespeeds, the use of which avoids the problems and complexity of dérailleur gears.
With a tyre of suitable grip a singlespeed would be more than adequate for most trail centres.

For these reasons and drawing on previous knowledge I would recommend the use of 2.35" Schwalbe Fat Albert tyres for a rigid SS at glentress.

They've reduced the maximum weight for a bike to 20kg if I remember correctly.

And some hard cases weigh up to 14kg.

about 1/2 an inch of powder fell last night just outside sheffield (as far as i got this morning)

Went up to stanage pole yesterday and it's like arctic tundra up there; 2ft deep drifts with a frozen crust, wasn't ridable across the top so i went back.

Stanage plantation was amazing early this afternoon as it started to snow heavily. The road back up to burbage was getting a nice covering and it'll probably be 4×4 only by now.
Then Dore drop/blacka moor…2 inches of fresh powdery perfection!

just in case you didn't hear me the first time.

    'etiquette issue'
so tapping the brakes and changing speed isn't? They really aren't doing any harm. In fact they're helping you out aerodynamically.

I've only ever had food poisoning twice – …once when a sewage works overflowed into the river I was kitesurfing on and fish were washing up dead next to me.

why, why, why did you think it was ok to eat them?!

I'd hazard a guess at no. You have to **** it with a hammer to free it up when you dismantle them. Then the combined effect of the preload on the spring holding it down and the damper side bolt preventing it from hyper extending, it should be right!

…but its only 15ml so i'd pull it apart and check.

Not much going on at the minute, what with them all being layabout students with three months holiday, but come october there's regular rides every wednesday and sunday.

On the other hand there are a few people around over the summer, have a look at the forum through the link above.

it will taste better than anything you buy from starbucks

Talk about setting your sights high! Starbucks is barely a grade above nescafe, so yes it doesn't take much to get better than that.

    My original question still stands:
is a Classic worth the extra compared to a Cubika?

    Mistere

i think the classic has the brass portafilter and head of the pro machines whereas the cubika is aluminium?

This is true. Will it make my coffee taste more expensive?

    Mistere

It's all part of the image.
I've got the bikes, I've got the kit, now I need a coffee machine.
There are no posts about cycling because its not about cycling, its about bikes, looking cool and drinking coffee.

SO. Whilst my bike may not function properly, I want a coffee machine that does.

Reconditioned cubiKas are £90 last time I looked.
Classics are rated as 1500W as opposed to Cubika's 750W. Now more watts are obviously better, but what difference does this make? Heats up faster or has more pump power?

ps. I've got a stove top but it doesn't look the part.

Yeah that’s true and I’m certainly pro helmet but:

How long will my helmet last?

There are many theories regarding when you should replace your helmet – which is why MET decided to answer the question by testing their own models. And the result? For eight years a MET helmet will do its job just fine, as long as you don’t damage it in a crash.

thumbies like the paddles on a F! car??
where do i send my cash???

Exactly! I have flappy paddles on the Audi and it’s lovely. the idea of a sort of sequential shifting thumbie is brilliant!

Yeah! You could integrate them into the brake levers so you don’t even have to move your hands to reach them. Now if someone made something like that they’d sell millions!

LOving my Hemlock and if it goes wrong i’ll trust Cy to put it right.

…loving my hemlock, but I am a tad worried that the fecker will snap when I’m somewhere in the middle of nowhere!

Am I the only one who is slightly shocked by this view? As if a frame snapping, never mind at such a critical place, is ‘no big deal’ and just a matter of getting it replaced with the worst case scenario being a glum walk home?

What happens if someone breaks one doing a 6ft drop for example? It’s not as if these frames aren’t going to be used for such riding, someone above mentioned using one for DH.
Worse case scenario suddenly becomes smashed ankles or a broken back.

I do like the way the desginer has come on and explained about his product which would give me the confidence to buy one.

Really?! Call me a cynic (because I probably am rather cynical at the best of times) but it doesn’t take much for a designer to give a few excuses in technobabble about why it shouldn’t have broken, yet the fact still stands: it did.

    freeridespain’s ‘Granada ride’

Now I know you said section, but you could split the whole ride into 20m sections and each one would be amazing in its own right.
It’s one of those trails which needs ‘skillz’ in every area to clean it and ride it well; loads of technical climbs, flowing singletrack, rocky steps, loose gravel, steep chutes…and if you get it wrong a high penalty for failure on a lot of it!

Also looks bloody amazing at 5:30am as the sun comes up!

ahh, i need to book a holiday!
