Good burgers in Holyrood 9a! Or at least they were…

Couldn’t find the Wera calendar anywhere, so got the Hazet one instead. Still not in the Chris Mass spirit.

Turns out wiggle use them. Which means I won’t be using wiggle again. They’ve had a package sitting in their sorting hub since Sunday. I’ve already accepted I’m never seeing it.

I tend to do the whole listen to one album on repeat for weeks thing, and wring every single little gasp of pleasure out of it. Currently alternating between :

Marina – Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
    Garbage – Strange Little Birds
    Primal Scream – Screamadelica
Prodigy Presents – The Dirtchamber Sessions
    The Jezabels – The Brink

Will maybe swap out one or two of them for something I’ve not listened to in a while in a week or so.

£50 is a bargain, but either I’m being stupid af, or 26″ tapered forks are mad expensive and tapered headsets for straight steerers don’t exist? Kinda defeats the object of a scrap bin build if I’m having to shell out loads for forks…

Inside Job? Basically Gravity Falls for adults. It’s all about the shadow government who control everything. So many great wee references to conspiracy theories and the like. I’m only three episodes in but I’m loving it.

I also echo what Johnnymarone says. I love trees. And I know I’ll get pelters for this, but if I’m eating an apple whilst out and about, the core gets hoyed in the greenery. We were twelve years in our last house and ended up with so many baby fruit trees because of that! It always makes me smile seeing apple or cherry trees in the middle of spruce woods, or at the side of the road as well.

I’m in the Netherlands and use my Scandal all the time and yes, use about three gears out of the ten. I’ve put about 5k on it and I’m still on the first cassette. I think my second chain. HG50 chains were €10 in Decathlon for ages, so I bought a stack of them. My cassette is one of the marginally heavier steel Shimano ones with the aluminium spider and I can’t say I notice the extra 200g or whatever it is. Previously I was on the all alloy SRAM ones (on my Explosif, RIP) and was replacing them every six months because they ended up looking like hedgehogs.

My son’s looking at secondary schools at the moment, and one of them is bilingual Dutch and English. Their weeks away are in Malta rather than England now, so I see that as an absolute win!

Nope, Hull is Hoek. Newcastle is IJmuiden.

Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Magic School Bus, Canimals, Shrek, are all I can think of right now. Gumball is the sort of cartoon that kids would find hilarious and adults horrifying, so maybe watch that on your own first and make a call…

Humblebrag moment? I’m nearly 40, have travelled a fair bit, and I have never ever been in a city as absolutely joyless as Aberdeen. It’s especially frustrating as it has so many elements that should make it great, but they never quite fit together. Amazing green spaces, great wee boutique shops, some really properly authentic world cuisine, a massive beach, great art galleries, and a couple of great music venues. On paper it rivals Edinburgh or Glasgow. But it’s a depressing shithole.
    The Shire, though? Fab.

That is gorgeous with a capital F. Waaaaay out of my budget though. I’m finding it hard to justify more than 2k for a complete bike, especially when I built the Scandal from lots of leftovers for about 400… I know that’s different, though.

My bike specific toolbox is a folding Hazet Assistent 166. Not a mental size, shelves rather than drawers, can use it as a workbench out and about. The bottom bit is filled with the bulky stuff like tyres and tubes, fork oil, and cables.

    Edit: like this:

That’s a lovely looking bike. As is the Sonder Transmitter. I’m trying to get excited but I just want my Explosif back.
Thanks for all the suggestions, some I hadn’t considered or even heard of. I think it’s gonna be a case of when I know, I know. Y’know?

I’m not against 29ers or aluminium, but I’ve already got a Scandal I built a couple of years back and while it IS great and much more ‘playful’ than I ever could have imagined, it’s not nimble in quite the same way. I was even considering a Big Dog and preparing to wait a few months for delivery, but it’s not really what I want.
Will watch the Hardtail Party stuff. Thanks all!

Damn. Anyone making aluminium 650b hardtails that feel zingy enough that tbey could be mistaken for steel?

Binners, they’re ace. Usually on offer in the supermarkets here so I have to avoid the biscuit aisle.

Moto brakes, yeah. And it was damp Saturday evening. So hopefully they hurt themselves. :D

Thanks guys. It’s gutting, especially when I was going to take my easily replaceable Scandal, but then decided against it as it’s a bit too long to fit comfortably in the bike parking. Guess I’ll regret that decision until the Explosif turns up, or forever. Whichever comes sooner…

Good thread. Mine’s next year and I don’t intend on doing anything for it, but I will be taking my eldest to the Bremen Classic before it, and a group of pals to Techno Classica after it.

Have done a very compressed bit of it with a pal, probably four years ago. Cost varies but it’s great value. Fill in a log of where you’re going before you jump on each train, though, as apparently the ticket people don’t like you doing it while you’re travelling. You can send your complete logs back to Interrail and they send you a gift.

I’ve got clothing from the island sitting in customs in Rotterdam right now. Been there since the 12th of July. Can’t see me ever seeing it at this rate, so I’m another in the ‘not buying anything from the island anymore’ camp…

Our not very old but no longer in warranty AEG dryer was throwing the same fault code for months and it had gotten to the point where a reset wasn’t fixing it. Pulled the board and resoldered the cracked soldered joints. Then did the rest of them as I figured they wouldn’t be far behind. Been washing and drying EVERYTHING this past week.

Nearly two years down with mine. Built 1x10XT, cheap 120mm RockShox up front, Deore brakes and wheels. Threw the Smörgåsbord tyres on it as well and they’ve hardly worn in probably 5,000km of riding. It gets used a LOT and for everything. Bought the bars and stem from Planet X at the same time and they’re pretty creaky now so I’ll probably replace them in the spring.
The paint is made from Smartie shells, sadly, but that’s probably my only complaint.

Thoroughly enjoyed Lupin, and loved the reference to the anime in the last couple of episodes.

The new episodes of Rick and Morty are more of the same, but that’s fine.

FWIW, I love Girl Talk for mashup albums. DJ Yoda’s pretty damn good, too.

Just watched that Troll Bridge film! It was excellent.

I enjoyed Good Omens, although I thought the witch wifey was painfully miscast.

We had one, an 04 plate. It wasn’t terrible but it certainly wasn’t brilliant. Except offroad and in the snow, where it would power through anything. The head gasket let go because it’s a K series and they all do that, the centre diff didn’t really diff properly causing the inside rear wheel to skip if the turn radius was too small for the speed in that gear, if that makes sense? It also had the most insanely annoying wiper stalk of any car I’ve ever driven.
Was fab in the summer with the back off and the T-tops stashed, though.
