Bikes wash easy, my Pipedream is a very light silver, and it doesn’t bother me. Agree white clothing is a pain, I used to be in a club that had predominantly white top, and it was never truly clean after the first ride.

If you’re getting to the point where Quickclot is needed, then you’d better hope you are somewhere that the local air ambulance can get in very quickly.
Some military surgeons in Afghanistan were finding with Quickclot powder that the chemical reaction that stopped the bleeding was also causing burns that worsened the injuries – I think it now comes in a different form, but it is still quite advanced field treatment and possibly not a general component to a first aid kit.
I’d go with a decent field dressing, to get the pressure onto a bleeding wound, and back it up with a decent large crepe bandage over the top if needed. When I did a stint in A&E as a student nurse the type of pressure dressing used was large dressing pads that don’t look like they’ll absorb much, some plain gauze, and then crepe bandage over the top. Got a feeling that an army first field dressing would do a similar job.

Go via the police for support, what you may find is that they’re not keen for you to get victim support as in a court case it could be seen as prejudicial to your evidence.

I’ve got a Gerber suspension, it was free with an MBR subscription a year ago or so. I use it a lot, it is often closer to hand than a real pair of pliers, and while it is difficult to exert a lot of leverage on it due to the shorter handles, it hasn’t failed me yet. Not flexy either which I thought it may be, my only problem has been one of the screwdriver ends broke slightly, still works though & fits the small screws on gear mechs better.

Best wishes to you & your uncle, from my own experiences you can’t have something like this happen to your brain and stay the same person, you do change.

I hope he makes as good a recovery as possible, he’s going to have a long road ahead of him.

If you believe in such things you’ll be in my prayers.

Can you do a second chance offer? Sounds to me like he can’t or won’t pay, and seeing as there is a claim against an item he has sold he doesn’t sound like a reputable ebayer anyway.
E-mail him, give him a reasonable time to respond, and explain you are going to relist or second chance.

Wife almost literally had a run in with a Boxster on the M62/M6 interchange, where the boxster driver seemed intent on running her onto the hard shoulder. Memorable private plate so she called the plod and it eventually went to court, he was charged with careless driving. Didn’t stick sadly, but the scare may have made him change his driving ways. Since seen him texting on the M62 though, so maybe not, and he’s progressed to an Audi TT so maybe the Boxster phase was shortlived for him.

Sadly it is episodes like this that result in drivers or certain cars being stereotyped, and consequently neither my wife or I are keen on Boxster type drivers.

Nissan Terrano 5 door, ideally the 3.0litre version. Proper 4×4 with transfer box, tough as boots and importantly has a mechanical limited slip differential on the rear axle, so in short as one wheel looses grip the other wheel keeps turning. Can keep up with nearly all other 4×4’s and although the boot space in standard form isn’t great with the back seat folded it is massive. Some models even have a small foldaway jump seat in the back, making them a temporary 7 seater, so good versatility factor.

Less glam than the subaru & Mitsus of the world, but more practical.

Hopefully going to get some model kits bulit, got an Airfix 1/24 Sea Harrier, a 1/144 Space Shuttle & a Tamiya 1/35 M113 APC. If I’m lucky I might even teach myself airbrushing if I get Mrs MFL to buy me an airbrush & compressor for my birthday. Also got good intentions to use the cross trainer to get fit again & lose some weight. Might even torture myself a bit on the turbo trainer.

[edit] also looking at the transpennine way route as something to do over a few days in the spring, if I manage to get fit & loose weight over the winter[/edit]

We have one at home, bought as a replacement foe a boggo microwave for the kitchen. Never used the grill function, always seemed too much of a faff IMHO. We bought ours from Aldi, it was about £40, but they don’t have them constantly in stock.

There was a really good programme/article on this on R4 yesterday – may have been you and yours? Followed on from a recent High Court decision where one party got screwed after paying some of the mortgage but not getting his name down IIRC

Was also on BBC breakfast news, longterm relationship broke down, couple argued for a long time over house & money, court decided all hers, 10% to him, didn’t cover his legal costs I think. If you are both going to be in the relationship long term, what is wrong with getting your name on the mortgage and going 50:50?

I tried tubeless with some really old Panaracer Fire XC – fraught with problems due to the age of the tyres. Loose beads meant that over a short period of time on the trail I had to put tubes in, but due to the latex what I have now is similar to a “tub”, as the inner tube glues to the inside of the tyre.
I have got some Spesh mud tyres that are tubless compatabile now, and plan to try the tubeless set up again and see if they work better.

Malham to Settle and back. Two distinct bridleways so you can take one out & the other back. Good pubs & caffe in settle as well.
I had quite a nasty encounter with the landowner at Arncliffe Cote many years ago, but apparently all sorted now. Does no one ride down mastiles lane anymore, that used to be a classic, and couldn’t be called grassy either.

Mrs MFL is fluent in German, did O & A levels, then degree. Spent one year in Germany at uni. If she is speaking a lot of German it gets to the point where she forgets to revert back to english if she try’s to explain or include me in conversations.
She taught German for several years after uni, now is a lecturer in teacher training. I’m quite proud of her abilities really.

I don’t know the area, but a question springs to mind, footpath or bridleway, and what course of action to be taken when encountering the inevitable bunch of walkers mindlessly wandering up the steps, heads down in conversation?

Assuming he is subject to a fair hearing, in a proper career what he is alleged to have done would be gross misconduct. If I’d called a colleague the term JT is alleged to have used I’d be suspend first, investigated, and if guilty hauled in front of an NMC fitness to practice panel. I’d probably loose my nursing registration & therefore my job.

Can’t do it all in a weekend. One great way of seeing all the main sites is to take one of the open topped tour buses.
First Sunday of the month is free entry to national museums, we were there in June, queue for the louvre was out of the lourve courtyards and into surrounding streets- very busy.
The conciergerie is a fine building, and if the weather is clear Tour Montparnasse can give some amazing views.
For public transport get a Paris Visite ticket, can be used on buses, metro & RER rail systems. The Opera is a fantastic building, and the mused d’orsay had an exhibition of Opera designs & models back in June, I’d guess if you get inside the Opera you are seeing only half the building, the other half being the backstage fittings etc. The Opera is also quite close to the main shopping area and gallery laffayette, a big department type store. The Madeline church is also a nice island of serenity near to place de la Concorde, And if you are into the da Vinci code you might also want to visit St Sulpice, however if you visit any of the churches then be wary of beggars/thieves, we were near the mused d’orsay when a girl approached us and in Brocken English tried to insist I’d dropped a ring, she then showed me a very brassy/copper “ring”, which looked more like a plumbing fitting. Saw the same girl later on the champs with a headscarf on. Coppers were in force and had no problems carting some of these people off.
If you are staying near the arc/champs then head down the side streets to look for places to eat, I’ll put my neck on the line and say it is really difficult to get a poor meal in France unless you visit a mcDonalds- if you need a fast-food type meal go to a Quick burger place, generally better quality that the US crap.

Warranty, did they sell you it as an add on, if so it is probably with someone like Warranty Direct. If it is a younger car it may be balance of manufacturer warranty, in which case you should be okay with any main dealer, and you won’t even need main dealer servicing, just servicing as per manufacturer schedule.

Lancashire Sports Repair can offer professional reproofing.

I’ve washed many jackets and relied upon tumble drying to restore some of the DWR rather than reproofing, that has been with the jacket washed in either nikwax or a simple none-bio detergent. Current jacket is the Pace eVent and it has survived this treatment.

If it is within 6cm of the windscreen edge that is also classed as unrepairable apparently- see the link in my previous post.
I had an old Nissan that quite clearly had a repaired chip central to the drivers vision. The Autoglass paperwork with the car also recorded this, never failed an MOT on anything, least of all the windscreen, always used to take the aoutoglass paperwork with me on MOT day and the examiner was happy.
Wife had a stone chip on one of her more recent cars, swept area, drivers side, repaired by Autoglass, not invisible but looked like dirt had penetrated the chip. Again, passed MOT with the repair.
All seems rather contradictory doesn’t it?
Just found The glass doctor[/url] who only repair rather than offer a replacement service, might be worth contacting them for advice?

Fairly straightforward as most of the ww1 & 2 stuff in France is either the Somme, Normandy, or the Ardennes.
Don’t forget Belgium & Ypres in particular as sites of significant WW1 battles.

That photo was taken at Thievpal war cemetery, IIRC one of the biggest on the western front.

Well, got offered an interview for the job but I’ve withdrawn. My current employer has offered a solution with more scurity than the job I’d applied for as other job would be a 12 month fixed term contract, and my union is pushing for them to treat this change as a reasonable adjustment, which may also mean protected pay. Other job would also lengthen my working day by an hour at least due to commute on local unreliable train service, whereas current job is 15 minute walk away.
Employer wants to consider the job offered as a redeployment, which would mean no protected pay, but union guy is taking legal advice and told employer that lack of protected pay woul probably go to tribunal. The new job on paper would mean approx 500 quid less per month, but less tax, superannuation would lessen this shock somewhat. I’ll also move out of higher rate income tax as well.
Still not perfect or rosy, but feeling decidedly happier than I was a month ago.

Only thing I found machine washing my old Mule is that on the inside of the fabric parts it has started to become daly. Machine washing gave my Mule dandruff. I’ve got another slightly larger camel bak now and have needed to wash that a few times, no problems with that, so maybe newer fabrics are better. My Mule dates back to 1999ish, bought in Florida when I went on holiday there. My son uses it now so he doesn’t care about the dandruff problem.

Nurses now think they’re not there to nurse; that’s what care assistants are for, but in many areas care assistants are uneducated, unskilled & uncivil, not a great combination.
In a lot of areas medical training is becoming more clinical, whilst for the last 15 years nurse training has all been about less clinical time, more theory and “better” qualifications.
Time for more basic nursing care IMHO.
PS I’m a registered nurse at one of the hospitals criticized today by the CQC, so it is quite close to home.

I’ve got some Tektro deep drop calipers on a bike, and TBH I feel that the quality of pads in a major contributor, I usually fit either campag or shimano one piece pads.
The brakes themselves are “ok”, they feel wooden when compared to the Campag veloce on my other bike, but comparable in stopping power overall. Have you looked at places like SJS cycles or Parkers International, they often have stuff like this in as more eclectic kit?

Difficult to summarise, but here goes:
Diagnosed with a brain tumour in June 2009, operated on then and returned to work part time in Sept 2009.
Tumour recurred by dec 2009 so second surgery in Jan 2010, followed by 6 weeks radiotherapy. Off until this time last year, Oct 2010, had a phased return but organisational changes meant occupational health support had altered and rather than working in a compact two person office everyone was in a bloody big & noisy shared office – I was well aware I had a concentration/distractability problem by this point, but my colleague constantly referred to a memory problem, which TBH was probably worse before being diagnosed with the original BT. Lots of fatigue, which is one of the long term effects of a BT & brain radiotherapy & can’t be treated with anything really.
Back in January colleague went to our line manager with concerns about my “memory”, and from then on I was working under supervision until end of March, when I was removed from my clinical role with minimal notice (2 days) and placed into what has now developed into a none clinical role. OH referred me at managers request for neuropsychological assessment, which I did well at (in summary, multi-tasking is a no-no) but despite consultant psychologist providing a list of 8 “reasonable adjustments” manager & HR drone are just refusing to move.
Current situation (apart from me applying for another job) is that union & myself are waiting for manager & HR to respond to the 8 reasonable adjustments with proper answers, if they cannot or will not meet them then they have to offer their own RA’s. One of these RA’s is being allowed to use a quieter area to choose to work from, taking & making phone calls etc, and clinical support & supervision with some of the extended & higher duties of my role such as prescribing – my manager interprets the “quiet area” as being a request for a private office and has turned down this simple request quite angrily.
Union guy, who is a full time regional officer, has a feeling that this will potentially go to an emplyment tribunal as line manager has not followed procedures (again), something that she is apparently infamous for, and while her first meeting, that occured without my knowledge or consent, with HR took place with a HR manager subsequent meetings have been attended by a HR drone, who sits taking notes following an obviously rigid & preplanned set of answers, no, no, no, no. Union guy has told manager to seek senior advice & hinted that he expects a HR manager or deputy manager to start to attend meetings so that we can get constructive. Employer wants me to follow a redployment policy that ultimately means they could terminate my contract at the end of 3 months.

I truly do not think I have a hope of changing jobs currently, but wasn’t prepared to pass up the option as my area of expertise is quite specialist, so few jobs available, but equally current employer uses this stress/specialist knowledge/clinical risk as a reason for me not to return to role, with or without RA’s in place. Manager seems more concerned about protecting my colleague, who has placed herself under more stress for the last 7 years by insisting on working part time, term time weeks only, she’s now complaining she wouldn’t be paid enough to supervise my return to practice because she is paid pro-rata even though out contracts are on the same pay band.

Ill health retirement does not seem to be an option, as the policy contains a clause of incapacity until expected retirement age, so in my case there would have to be proof of no changes in my condition for 18 years. Google glioma brain tumour and look up patient outcomes to understand my frustrations at being stonewalled with respect to ill health retirement.

Legally if my employer remains so immovable, the union rep feels that the union would legally back an ET for disability discrimination, so long term part of me just feels like riding the storm out and seeing what develops in the coming months. Isn’t doing my mental health any good, Mrs MFL likes me a lot more at weekends than weekdays when I am a ball of stress and fit to kill someone.

PS not riding enough as stress = more fatigue, so at weekends just CBA’d dragging my sorry fat arse out on the trails, despite riding being something that I know reduces my stress levels.

Sorry about the length of the post, and the moaning whinginess nature of the problem. Good to decompress in a fairly anonymous manner though. Cheers guys.
