Have been using the 350 steel freehub for almost three years. In my opinion it is one of the best upgrades you can make as you have found out the alu ones are made of cheese. No damage on mine so far and I weigh 100kg+. The only limitation is that it is avaliable for now obsolete hg freehub standard. Ordered mine from bike-components.de.

I see why they can be a bit dangerous in a group ride/race, but I always ride alone and I’m a slow rider. The feedback on Sora STI looks to be positive so will try them for a while and see if I like them.

Some tires work better than the others, but you can go from 2.3 to 3.0 on 35mm internal rim.

Happy with Chronicles on wtb asym i35, good balance of weight and width.
Crc has Eason Arc rims in 40 and 45 with on offer.
All plus tyres suck in muddy conditions.

AM5 are a bit heavy, probably not the best choice if you want something lighter …

    140mm looks a bit narrow…
The latest wtb saddles are not made as well as they used to be.
Was thinking about Spec Henge Comp 155mm.

    Buy a singlespeed.
    Ride more.

    This would most definitely work.

Interestingly I found jones bars hinders climbing. Great going along or down, but I struggled with hands so close to my body.

Same here. Had them for a year on my stooge. They were great for the downs and long miles. Awsome for bikepacking. Somehow wasn’t able to get them working for climbing, always felt a bit wrong.

    Hope mine are not 8)
Had a lot of problems with hubs over the years, most rims have been fine so far (flow mk1, pacenti tl28, sun ringle)
What was the problem mahalo, rock strikes?

WTB Asym i29 and i35 are very good rims. Too early for some long term reviews on the new mk3 flows.

Have Dakine Nomad, had Evoc CC 10L. Session and CC 6L are a bit different. Maybe try a bum bag / fanny pack.
They are both very good, sturdy packs, but prefer the Dakine:
    * Nomad came with hydrapak bladder, replaced the mouthpiece with camelbak (much better).
    * The routing for hydration hose is a bit fiddly on evoc, the internal mash pocket gets in the way.
    * Nomad has a magnet to fix the hydration hose on shoulder strap.
    * Nomad has a separate compartment for hydration bladder.
    * Nomad is better organized, more pockets, armour straps.
    * Dakine has smoother zippers.
    * You have to unclip the front flap on Nomad to access the front pocket.
    * Evoc fits me a little better, has a bit better ventilation and is a bit more stable (longer, slimmer, smaller).

There are better bivy bags for sure, but hunka is waterproof (from my experience and on the web page HH 10,000 mm)

Like mine, Ardent 2.4 front, prefer Ardent Race 2.2 to normal Ardent at the rear, both tubeless on the original flow rims.

Very happy with 9 speed Sora compact front and 11-34 back on my steel Kona Honky Tonk. Like to climb and i am not very fit. Standard road gearing is way to high for a lot of road riders, but they won’t admit it.

Very good brakes, for me they are as close to fit and forget you can get.
Change the jagwire cables and housing every two years and thats it, also the old g2 rotors and stock sintered pads last a loooong time. Easy to service and no problems when you take the wheel off and accidentally pull the lever.
Have them on all bikes with disk brakes (two mine + one wifes).

50/34 front and 11-32 back is great if you are not racing.

Heavy, stiff (compared to some carbon bars), price, goofy looks.
Like mine with esi extra chunky grips, comfortable especially on longer rides.

Jones Bend Bars are a more budget friendly alternative to the loops. £90 or so.

    and lighter too …
