    @murdooverthehill

which main dealer did your Ford for £1200? We’ve just bought my mum’s 66 plate Fiesta with the 1.0 ecoboost, which we love!

    thanks!

Which is better, if you have the option:

higher rise bars or spacers under the stem?

bars don’t reduce the reach, is that correct?

My mum once announced, whilst we were all sat around the dining table as kids (teenagers) and she was eating an apple, that she loves the taste of a good cox.

Another time she went into a local hardware store and declared that her husband’s chopper is too big. Everyone erupted! She just wanted a kindling ax for my dad.

    I bought one!

Great PSA, I’m well chuffed, been umming and arring for ages but our Eurocamp cabin had one last week and we were pretty impressed with it.

Damn it, why is no one telling me that option 3 is the wisest and bestest…

Not fussed about the bleed buttons, it’s the damper I’m most concerned about. I don’t really want to use the forks and then decide it’s utter pants.

Although chakaping’s feedback and my best google search indicates that the Marzocchi coil with GRIP is a great fork!

    @the-muffin-man

    so many options!

morning walk/run on Poppit beach with the dog

    breakfast in Cardigan castle

Walk around the Wild life park, starting from Station Road, Cardigan.

    lunch at Pizza Tipi

Mwnt beach is wonderful but no dogs.

    Aberaeron and Llanarchaeron are great.

    Nice walks around St. Dogmaels.

Big coastal walks from Cardigan up the coast to Llangrannog, get the bus back.

    You’ll love it!

Cemaes head walk is nice from Poppit.

Sorry, not much flow to my reply but plenty of options. Any specific places/venues you identify I’ll happily feedback on!

I live in Aberporth. Two beaches, pub and on the coastal path of Wales.

It’s worse in the tourist season but really not that bad, especially if you actually live here.

20 min to Aberaeron, shared earlier, 10min to Cardigan and 1000 times less busy than Pembrokeshire, with an incredible coastline.

The red arrows flew over our house this morning in Aberporth. Blink and you missed it!

That private option is definitely food for thought but I emailed the local inspector and he replied in 30min and now booked in for two weeks time, so I’m comfortable I can make this work.

fingers crossed, might be a fire door or something but I’m confident the build is spot on!

Feedback was greatly appreciated. Love this site.

    Thanks for the response!

I agree, suck it up and do it properly.

Yes, plenty of photos to share! I’ll get in contact with them directly.

The fly in the ointment is that our county is massive and only one BC officer!

whooo woh woh! What’s all this about rear subframe rot?

We’ve got a 2012 C250 CGI, 1.8T petrol, AMG line auto estate and I’ve never heard anything before.

It’s a great car, really easy to work on and cheap parts, even direct from Mercedes.

What should I look for?! I’ve had the rear bumper off a couple of years ago when I fitted a towbar and it all looked pretty average for a 10 year old car with 105k on the clock.

    Your, worryingly.

I absolutely loved those as a young teenager in the 90’s, back when you could write to the manufacturers and get catalogues.

I’m looking at auto Vito’s and came across this one. The price is ambitious given the mileage and, like most contributors above, I’m quite comfortable with high mileage.

    Sufferer here too.

A quick fix that works for me is popping a Nytol or generic equivalent before bed.

I’m always able to fall asleep but it’s the waking early that kills me. Anything after 3am and that’s it, no more sleep.

Sleep aid / Nytol seems to enable me to go back to sleep quickly and easily.

I’ve also got some melatonin from the States after a two week business trip in Oz/NZ earlier this month.
The combination has reduced my jet lag to basically two days!!

Clearly I’m not addressing the root cause but it helps me out of a rut.

Somehow it’s worse, to me, than those endlessly scrolling through the web.

It’s just a grim way to communicate for those without a genuine reason, such as the point made earlier on.

    Mintyjim

It’s how everyone in China communicates. I was there for two weeks before Christmas and the guy who reports to me would have regular conversations with his wife via voice notes, whilst driving.

made me quite nervous and, less importantly, a proper conversation would have sorted their spat much quicker!

Everyone walks around with their phones held in front of their mouths, firing off voice notes. **** stupid.

@davosaurusrex my friends is an xl too and he’ll be swapping to a standard stem next

Great looking bikes and I love the Bosch motor, definitely my preferred system.

It did ride very well, I just prefer a mullet because I’ve got little legs.

The mondraker is my wife’s really, but really my back up for when my Levo eventually craps its motor or battery. Was looking at an angleset for it next but it’s perfect for her right now.

Interestingly, or not, I did a couple of rides on one last week.

I stayed two nights with a mate who lives on the central coast, Oz, and I borrowed his wife’s.

full carbon jobbie with a 725 battery.

it was a large and I’m 5’8” but it fitted and felt great!

I really enjoyed it, the battery life is incredible, rode great but my ‘23 Levo carbon is better.

However, after two 30km hard rides the headset was creaking. Apparently their LBS had already fixed it and his bike too, they have matching bikes, but it was still creaking. I could not live with that, the headset routing is horrible.

I had a 2020 carbon Rail previously, twas brilliant, now I have a gen 3 carbon Levo with coil both ends and ‘23 Mondraker Chaser (aluminium , 625 removable battery and normal cable routing) at home.

I’d have any of those three over a bike with headset routing.

Hired an ally Trek Rail one day and a Scott Patron in Rotorua, NZ, this week. Both good, but again I felt the Rail was better despite poverty spec and the Scott had headset cables – sent a cold shiver down my spine and I thought of the poor person maintaining this bike!

I couldn’t do it, but we’re all different!

As an aside, riding on the central coast was betterer than what I did in Rotorua.

I just bought one of these for my wife*:

    https://winstanleysbikes.co.uk/mondraker-chaser-29-2023-electric-bike

it actually came with mavic e-deemax wheels, DB8 brakes and the newer Bosch smart system and Kiox 300.
    An absolute steal!

*we all know what this really means.

@ molgrips was that on the front or rear?

Oh shit! I’ve not seen that. It’s a shame so many people do their best not to pay for parking.

i guess, best worst case, would be that the trails continue but no visitor centre, think Brechfa.

Infected ballbag after a botched vasectomy.

That was pretty special on the pain front.

I’ve hurt myself a lot over the years but cortisone injection in my elbow was one of the most painful too!

Sounds familiar Matt, since my dad died I’m the geographically closest child (out of 4) so all emotional and practical requirements fall on me. Normally I’m fine with this role.

I’ve taken the week off work whilst my wife is snowboarding to look after the kids and refit my mums garage into a utility room.

All she’s talking about is the ASHP and not really listening to my advice. She has no real interest in my life, she’s become very self absorbed as she’s got older, which adds to the challenges.

Crikey, not sure where that came from my it felt good to write it!

Some excellent feedback here, thanks folks. I agree, there’s definitely some serious expectant management issues going on!

They definitely did a poor installation job though (and have returned once to correct some of it) and also left my mum with no help /advice on the system which is now costing her £250+ a month – which she is finding very frightening. Sadly she’s a glass half empty character and her immediate position is doom and gloom, so everything is worse in her world.

I’ve finally convinced her to get a local, reputable, firm to come over and do their own assessment (including what KW system she needs – I’m convinced the Daikin is far too big).

Once the results are in I’ll know what next steps are.

Thanks again everyone, it’s good to know that most positions are aligned on this!

    Thanks for all the feedback.

    Quick answers:

    Bill is £280 (not DD)

With Octopus, they claim she needs a programmer (Hive etc.?) to take advantage of the Cozy tariff. She has one thermostat only, they never fitted a programmer.

Previously had an oil boiler and the house is definitely warmer. Thermostat set to 18degC.

    No battery.

She’s caught in a mental doom loop and struggling to follow my advice.

Despite it keeping her awake all night worrying she’s just waiting for Baxter Kelly to sort everything out, and they couldn’t give a flying.

I do 30k miles a year and, as I posted earlier, I live in fairly rural wales  but drive all over and still stick to my opinion that it’s brilliant.

I live in a village in coastal Ceredigion and I love it.

Entitled, self centred, pr!cks still blast past the village school at 40mph, even at drop off time so I’d love to see more cameras and speed bumps.

We try to be good with the following:

    Smol products

recycle everything – including all soft plastics

community fridge – clothes and food to reduce waste/landfill.

I recognise our meagre efforts make zero impact, especially obvious as I work in manufacturing and the colossal plastic consumption and waste is utterly depressing.

Recent business trips to China and Japan really drove home how far we have to go.

Single use plastic crockery/cutlery was rife in Japan, wrapped in plastic film, was especially depressing. EVERYTHING was wrapped in plastic and utterly pointless.

Reading this thread whilst watching Planet Earth III with my young kids (5 & 8) has made me very sad indeed.

I’ve got a SlackR that I ran on my Trek Rail for a few rides before I sold the bike.

it was a medium Rail so if that’s the same headtube on yours I’d sell it with a Hope bottom bearing and race, if you want to try that route.

    cheers, James

I’ve got a set of Yari’s that I paid £200 for from CRC.

They were a knee jerk purchase so I’m going to send them back unless someone on here wants them.

£205 posted to part cover postage.

i would happily convert them to any travel if you send me the airshaft and you’re not comfortable doing it.

    PM me if interested. Cheers.

Did anyone on here openly admit to voting for Brexit?! Not looking to name and shame, just genuinely curious.

I typically only look at STW and the Guardian so my echo chamber suits my politics and outlook.

One benefit is that I went out and got myself EU citizenship as I was lucky enough to have Polish grandparents. Oh, hang on, i didn’t even need it before, doh!
