Ball walk with dog and Mrs Ming on crutches so didn’t go too far, then impromptu BBQ and sat in the garden watching the dog try to destroy his indestructible plastic football.

Stared at wrist wishing scaphoid would heal faster so I could enjoy the lovely dry, dusty trails.

Got in silver with the XTR switchable rear mech, shame it’s only had 4 rides and is now gathering dust due to my broken scaphoid. grrrrrrrrr

    +1 for Budds Barn

(animal friendly, they even let some of the business come)

Widemouth bay within 5-10 minutes drive, then Crackington Haven further south and Duckpool and Sandymouth further north. Bude within about 10-15 mins for shopping and a few more beaches.

    a bit more sensibly:

    Jeep – never again
Ford Main Dealer in sussex (a small forest of one type of tree) – thought they could rip off my missus.
Comet – customer service does not seem to feature in their ethos

Easton for the shocking bearing life in the first generation of Haven wheels and then poor, argumentative warranty back up.

Got it running on a 3×10 set up, it’s very, very good. Only time I’ve dropped a chain down hill was when I turned it off to see what happened.

Nah, it’s the same problem those chaps at C.E.R.N. had with neutrino’s. It’ll all be down to statistical/measurement error or something…….

    Seriously though…..that’s fast.

Makes my 14hrs 35mins at the single look at a bit rubbish really.

Not funny, either for the ferret owner, ferret or dog. Dog’s have been known to suffer horrific and very expensive nasal injuries when taking on ferrets.

Very cute and yes taking photo’s of ferrets (not asleep) is like trying to photograph lightning!

DO NOT let your missus look at the ferret couture website :D

Well with all that tax raised I’m sure they’ll find something to spend it wisely on; just look at their excellent track record with a Parliment and Trams………….

Agree with the sealing issues, I have a set of Sages’s and bearings frequently(6 monthly) need regreasing or ride till fail at 12-18 months. Rims are incredibly strong and even landing on the edge of a Dartmoor granite rain gully eye-wateringly-hard only put a slight buckle in the rim. Rather have CB over Easton Havens which have given me no end of problems. Next time will be shop built recommendation.

    Does this answer the question?

Won’t say where my local spot is but needs a howling SW onshore to work, ground swell is very rare and you have to brave the 4-7ft shore dump onto flint cobbles to get in our out. So it’s pretty much desperation surf but if it’s all you’ve got………….

Best sponging I’ve ever done was at Crackington Haven; me, two other humans and a couple of real locals(seals) in 8-10ft sets. Was more like a survival lesson on occasions and proved that a really bad cold, a can of monster along with cold&flu tablets are not a good mix.

Had ferrets for years, great pets and the more time you spend with them the better pet they become. Below is a quick list of tips and precautions that spring to mind.

Get both sexes neutered as soon as they mature and that cuts down on the smell and aggressiveness that a full Hobb or Jill can display

As a first time ferret owner start with an older pair (say 2-3 years) as they will be calmer and nip trained. Probably best to get them from a local ferret rescue organisation as they will match you and ferrets.

Ferrets do not need regular baths, it dries out their skin too much.

Diet also contributes to smell, get a proper ferret complete biscuit and that keeps poop smell to a minimum and ferrets healthy. They can be litter trained as well, most get the idea of a reward for a poo in the right place and become masters of the “touch and go” visit to the litter tray.

    Indoor or Outdoor?

Outdoor make sure it’s sheltered from wind, heat and rain – look up ferret court.

Indoor, get as big a cage as you can afford and make sure it’s populated with blankets/hammocks and hidey holes. Water and food must be available at all times. Lock them away in this when you are out or asleep.

Ferrets are good climbers but poor descenders so make sure there are no big falls they can get at as they can injure their backs easily. Ferret proof your house/rooms as you would for a small child, so child locks on cupboards, esp bleach and medicine area’s. Make sure that the bathroom is off limits (ferrets and loo’s are not a good mix).

Remove anything with fleshy rubber/foam (TV remotes) as this will be eaten, hopefully passing through but if not prepare yourself for a £500 vet bill.

Also before turning on dishwasher and washing machine check where they are. REALLY CHECK!

Indoor Ferrets need claw clipping about every two weeks (easily done – rescue bod’s should be able to demonstrate) and keep an eye on ear wax build up and lots of head shaking (usually ear mites – treat with Canaural or similar from vets).

You will discover the merits of Ferretone and Ferretvite

No riding here either, broken scaphoid (diagnosed 3 weeks after the first x-ray missed it), cast for 10 days then more x-rays and re-assess.

Mrs Ming teaches primary, the teaching is fine, however the workload, petty politics, parents and OFSTED make the job a misery. AVOID

Also worth a visit is Stanmer Park near Falmer with a bit of singletrack and slightly further east is Friston Forest, again with a fair bit of singletrack.

Sussex Muddy@rse and Brighton MTB clubs both ride in the area so it’s worth checking out their respective websites.

Rail Industry – FUBAR’ed, I feel like I’m re-arrangging deckchairs on the Titanic but will shortly be displaced from this job to reapply for the same but slightly different position even though we steam closer to the ice!

Moral in our bit is so bad if it was an airliner it would have a four engine shutdown and have just popped out of the clouds to find its in the middle of a mountain range!

Another Gold Liberator (now with flesh wounds after stupid off at the 24:12) and occasionally a Hope HiD on the lid. Mrs Ming is making noises about a new light so if the new “spider eyes” reaches production or maybe a Liberator will be in her Xmas stocking.

I work for a large people and freight moving company, they are quite possibly the most horrendously inefficient organisation I have ever worked for. £millions wasted and no one bats an eye lid! Oh and more politics than the Roman Senate.

I got a pair of Havens when they first came out, worst wheels for reliability I’ve ever had. Both sets of bearings F&R dead in 6 months, new front wheel eventually (took shop mechanic cornering the rep at a trade show) and rear rebuilt, then after 4 months use from March to June the rear went again, this time new axle, bearings and free hub but only after the shop nagged the importer.

Hopefully they’ve fixed them now. :(

That main has gone before, about 13-14 years ago, took my boss reading Thames Water the Riot Act and saying that should the line be shut that we would be naming and shaming on TV before they bothered to turn up.

The bank is still very unstable and removing debris from the bottom is very likly to cause further slippage. Digging out the face of the slip whilst it’s still draining could be very hazardous to your health, hence the pictures of people standing round not doing a lot.
