South Downs, anything but winter mud; Bonty FR3 and MTFU.

For mud either Bonty FR4, XR4 or Mud X and abandon all hope on green chalk.

Failing that Black Shark Mud’s (1.5 dia) @ 80 PSI and never ride over roots or solid surfaces.

That’s it, rub it in……sitting here with a herbert screw freshly installed, it’s gonna be late march before I can even think about sitting on a bicycle………

Hope your all enjoying yourselves (oh no I’m not jealous :D) and mind the bloody trees, especially the Stanmer tree of doom.

Mrs Ming gave me a large sum of money towards my new back wheel (think of it as an MOD procurement disaster with spiralling costs and delays)

Will be very bling when finished.

Mrs Ming got 5 pairs of socks to make up for the cotton carnage wrought by Darkstar the Polecat, who’s sole mission is to rid the world of evil socks by chewing the heel out of every pair he can get his claws and teeth into!

Mother in law arriving on the 29th, quaffing wine by the barrel and never seeming to stop and the father-in-law giving well meaning but useless advice/lectures about how I should live my life/manage my finances.

@EdwardH, do they do tours to oil rigs?

A big bouncy feet off pedals then back onto pedals just in time for the next bump resulting in a 30mph get off over the bars up hill through a gorse bush resulting in a slightly banged knee. Thought that was my big crash of the year but this August hit a tree at 25mph during the Brighton Big Dog, breaking my left scaphoid which then failed to heal and has just been grafted and screwed. :(

I’ve gone the custom route for a new back wheel and unfortunately the budget has gone the way of MOD procurement and errr overrun a bit, gone for a flow rim, sapim x ray spokes and a profile racing MTB elite hub. I’ll do a write up when it arrives.

    My Haven review

OK these were first generation Havens and the hub design has supposedly improved but warranty back up has been tedious.

Oh the hours spent, de-rusting and filling, redoing ball joints, wheel bearings, water pumps, radius arms, drum shoes and slave cylinders, head gaskets (1340cc), dodgy solenoids/electrics, wet distributors, CV joints etc.

The way they would snap into horrific over steer if you really took the p*ss…………

Would I have another, probably not, but thanks for the memories.

Must be served with very strong pickled onions and or piccalli. Oh and really strong green apples. A good solid red wine to go with the cheese’s is a must as well.

Yes you will have bad dreams if you eat this in the couple of hours before you go to bed.

Tell them (after xmas), as someone who was a teenager (probably 16) in that position (grandad had lung cancer) the family did everything not to tell me and my younger brother how serious things were, even by the time I was 18 I still was not getting the facts so when he died it came as a bit of a shock and something I still feel a bit bitter about.

Been doing heavy power and RF for the last twenty years, not overly convinced about the whole EM field danger thing but bear in mind we evolved to cope with the background radiation levels and natural EM from the sun, we have not evolved yet to cope with the man made environment so to be on the safe side would avoid a house next to a substation or radio mast.

I think more of the problem is from oil/chemical leakage from the site itself (they are supposed to be sealed and enclosed but….old transformers will always leak and old transformer oil will probably have had PCB’s or other lovelies in it, if its from the 70’s or earlier (believe me they are still about as a 400kv grid transformer is not cheap to replace).

Also “you tube” sub station explosion, a nearby lightning strike overload can lead to a fireball and/or explosion.

A 1MVA ground mount transformer will contain a lot of flammable oil.

Almax and heavy duty ground anchor or bucket/tyre-o-crete. Blank shotgun cartridge alarms are good as well, just so long as you don’t forget it and trip it yourself

Running standard 2012 XT on mine and before that 2006 XT and never really had a problem, always thought it climbed like a goat in the granny ring, not sure what pedal feedback would be and if it’s doing it it’s not stopping me go up hill.
I usually run it with pro pedal on if that makes a difference

normally the thing I’m trying to describe to a work colleague/friend/relative.

I usually completely forget what it’s called and resort to:

“the black square thing with fins (in this case I should’ve called it a transceiver), next to the wiggly wires and the orange connector block”

incidentally we also rename things at work in accordance with their difficulty of adjustment rating, hence circulators become “swirliators and the pots of doom”. Tune-able inductors become “pots of return to manufacturer”.

oh come on, they are always talking this sort of thing up, slow news day etc. How many Horizon’s, Equinox’s etc have there been saying we’ll all fry from a nearby gamma-ray burst, freeze in a nuclear or volcanic winter, choke to death after a “flood basalt”, get crushed by a falling meteor/comet [insert your choice of apocalyptic doom here].

They’re bloody part viking, for them the sky is always falling, it’s like us whinging about the weather.

    Nothing will happen……

    Trust me.

Waiting for the op to screw and graft my broken scaphoid together, oh and had the shits for the last two days so feeling doubly miserable. I’ve not ridden since early September. Still the GWS present to myself of a new custom back wheel has gone from merely exorbitant to astronomical (I feel I could work for the MOD I’m so over budget!)
