I work shifts, in a previous role a colleague after a bad night shift would quite often get home, open up a bottle of red, put the deckchair in the garden and read the paper consuming the bottle before dozing off.    He thought it was hilarious as all his neighbours assummed he was some sort of stay at home derelict.

Mrs M and I enjoyed it, its not a happy film, Mrs M has never seen the original and very rarely likes films that don’t have a happy ending but she liked this one.

Might be worth seeing if Onyx Vespa hubs will fit as not only do you have silent drive and instant engagement but a myriad of colours to chose from!

SDW down Wendover, at the Eastbourne end can be treacherous, large polished flints, lots of slimey chalk and cross winds.  The rest is OK and rideable, some of the nearby climbs/descents can be bad as well, Old Kiln Bottom on Lullington Heath has been ruined by contractors smoothing it over with crushed, rollered chalk, I dragged the bike up it after the fresh wet chalk clogged both wheels, a 20lb bike weighed about 40lb!

My go to winter tyres are Michelin Muds with Enduro casing to survive the flints.

But I consider wet chalk a blessing as you develop cat like reactions and balance skills and any other surface is super grippy!

50, can still climb and ride with my younger mates for around 2hrs then I tend to slow right down.  I struggle with multi-day rides, we did 5 days in Wales and TBH I could’ve sacked it off after 3 days.

I really struggle with sleep, getting to sleep, staying asleep and then waking up at the crack of dawn.  That really impacts my motivation.

Injuries from crashes take a lot longer to heal and after an infected bite last year my rh little finger is rather wonky and tight.  I also have trigger thumb from too many shifts with tight cables, they sound like gunshots every now and again when I bend them (Mrs M does not think this is a valid reason for getting AXS)

I really should stretch more and eat better and cut back on the booze.

Currently running a singlespeed and that’s really helping with the fitness.

I don’t think you can build an “easy fix vehicle” for the EU/American market.  With all the emissions control gumpf and quest for light weight and electric that’ll never happen.

Not seen the commercial ones yet but the Professor was making my teeth itch so had to stop watching

Love my 950 SMR, especially with its akra’s😁. Though the tiny tank means fill ups every 95 miles so I’m on first name terms with most of the petrol stations on my commute

BBC, biased broadcasting corporation, hopefully they will be putting their glass house in order correcting their fake news and fibs/lies before throwing stones at other organisations.

Both mine and Mrs M’s Specialized down tubes are fitted with invisframe, a double layer of 3M tape from viking tapes and finally a Rock Guardz carbon protector.  I’ve seen too many down tubes dented/dinged by Sussex flints.

Great, after 8-9 years feeling like cross between Yossarian from Catch 22 and Archibald Tuttle from Brazil, 18 months ago I applied for a new role within my organisation and got the job, more responsibility, great team, my decisions mean something and more money.

Getting around can be a bit rubbish, the A27 is a total nightmare and the A259 not much better (18 years of commutting in that part of the world).  AVOID driving on either anywhere near the peaks or school start finish times.    Train service is OK when I’m not breaking it to stop muddy@rseguy getting to work.

Arundel and Amberley are lovely, nice riding near at Whiteways.

A floater is a length of conductor rail that is associated with track points and allows the train to pass over the points from one line to the other without becoming “gapped”

2.25 Michelin Wild Mud Enduro casing (or whatever they are calling it now). Tough as old boots, even at 18psi over Sussex flints.  Grip like a tory hanging onto power and clear like a man on picolax.  I’ve had them on my 29er over the last 3/4 winters and only one puncture that didn’t seal without an anchovy and that was a piece of thick fence wire.  They last about 2 winters, I tend to put a fresh one on the front each year and move the old front to the back.

Some cracking pictures.  Mrs M used the weekend to further perfect her riding skills and drag me across the South Downs.  Mrs M on her E Bike, me on a single speed.  I ache.

Gluten intolerant and a lot of FODMAPs as well.  So no bread,  pea’s, mange tout, beans, garlic, onion family, kidney beans, fructose, apples.  Can be very boring at times as onion is used as a flavouring in a lot of sauces.

    But bacon is ok.

Too many bad mannered idiots at our local cinema, playing with phones or chatting.  FFS why spend money to talk or fiddle with your phone through it?  Last time we went I challenged a couple of teenagers in front of me for phones and noise, they got up and walked out, along with about 6 of their mates, all giving me a hard stare so I did wonder if the conversation was going to carried on when the film finished.

I’d much rather get it on blu-ray and sit at home watching it.

They arrived in Fairford 19th Aug.  Apparently their call sign was DEATH.  Probably for an exercise/annual deployment.

It will be interesting to see what the B21 looks like when its unveiled, hopefully early next year, and what additional capabilities it has over the B2.  Weirdly the B21 will replace the B2 and the Bone (B1) but not the B-52.

A pair of semi trained Council House Cats that will sleep on the bonnet of the offending car before sliding off with their claws out leaving a trail of scratches behind them.

The sort of cats the local Staffies gives a wide berth too.

Technically you can squeeze more trains onto the same congested lines BUT it will require a massive investment in TELECOMS/signalling (ERTMS), which is “in cab signalling” via a two layer GSM-R “cellular” system.  The system does away with much of the line side signalling and uses in cab indications controlled via radio network from a regional operating centre.  This can work out the speeds and stopping distances of the trains and creates a “moving block” sections for trains meaning you a not dependant on the fixed distances between line side signals.

It is hideously expensive and has a few problems, namely that 4G systems crap all over 1/2 the GSM-R frequencies we use and its getting worse as more and more 4G is rolled out.  The other problem is that crowded areas like London suffer from frequency allocation issues as there are so many lines in radio siting distance that we start getting frequency clashes with different lines interfering with each other (we have a limited number of frequencies available).  Pesky bodies of water like the Channel, The Thames and The Clyde also cause issues as well.

This is only on a GSM-R network for voice comms, not for ERTMS which would require double the number of fixed stations….

5’7″ here on a good day, I ride a 2015 29er Enduro medium and think the cockpit is a bit short.  Mrs M is 5’6″ and rides a M Levo (definitely wouldn’t want a small) and my Curtis AM9 is a small but is longer than my Enduro and about the same as my 17.5 Superfly though the Curtis has much better standover.
