But, if you put in 100 hours of training, would you rather gain 25W on your FTP or 50W?

Gaining 50w in 100 hours training is quite a big ask, and tends to only come when you’re starting out with something structured. At that level I don’t think there’s much difference between Zwift, TR, Sufferfest or any of the other offerings. Choosing a plan, being consistent about following it and regular FTP checks to reset targets will bring similar benefits. They all have their good and bad points.

I think unless you are an elite athlete, the Zwift training plans are fine. Many of us don’t have a great degree of structure to our ‘training’, having any plan and being consistent will most likely deliver significant benefits. When we are all trying to find the final 5% improvement, TrainerRoad or a coach may be of better than Zwift plans, but I imagine most of us are some way off that. I would suggest trying a Zwift plan, follow the workouts and see where you end up in a few weeks.

Are you taking the top-cap off the bung and then adjusting the preload?

    This is quite interesting: https://gplama.com/2019/06/29/shimano-crankset-power-meters/

It suggests that the current crop of Shimano cranks are not well suited to power meters fitted to the drive side.

Plug your to link router into one of the LAN sockets on the sky router. Turn off wifi on the sky box and away you go.

I’ve just moved number 2 son up from a Beinn 26, but nabbed the wheels and brakes for the new bike. So I have the frame, forks gears etc sat in a box in the garage. Let me know if they are of any interest.

If you’re fine riding around Surrey with 39/25, you’ll probably be OK with 36/28 in the alps I would have thought.

Both are very nice. Might be worth checking all planning / building regs necessary were followed before agreeing to show them on TV though.

When I was about 14, my cousin and I tried to tackle a wasps nest in a local hedge armed with a shovel, a jerrycan of diesel and a book of matches. It didn’t end very well, but I did find out how much faster I could run than him.

    Happy days.

    Ecky-Thump, I have a 20″ I’ve been thinking of selling for a while – I’ve dropped you an email.

I recently bought a cateye nano shot+. Very impressed so far. Plenty of light on the low setting for riding unlit country roads. USB recharging.

I’ve bought cars from BCA for the last 10 years or more (for me my wife)- always 2 – 3 years old ex fleet with guaranteed mileage / service history etc. We’ve never had a significant problem. Most cars of that age are still covered by the manufacturers warranty, so a quick check soon after buying should get anything major sorted.

The advice above is all good stuff.

I’ve seen a number of cars go through the auction only to appear on dealer (and Car Giant) sites a few weeks later with a significant mark-up.

I put the Fingest loop up last night, but hadn’t had the chance to post a link here yet. I have some others with cheeky(ish) sections that I’ll add over the weekend as I get time, most are further south though. I think the best riding is just south of the M40.

I replaced the on-one branded cantis with a set of Tektro CR520s which work (much) better.

I had the same problem – in the end I downloaded the update onto a USB drive and plugged it into the back of the TV. Seemed to work OK.

-If you are close to that area, Mountain High in Pangbourne head out Tues evenings and Sat mornings (although there’s nothing until after the new year). I don’t make it out with them as often as I should, but its a great way to learn the area. It is a bit sticky up there at the moment though….

I got some nice winter cycling gloves from Decathalon for £10 or £12 – no complaints from the boys over the last couple of weeks

Ade, good to see the frame is going strong. I ran it with a couple of different forks, but mainly 105mm marzocchis… seemed to work OK. I still have them, but they re a bit baggy now…. I do, however, have the perfect set of Rebas to go with it if you are interested – 2010 race’s with a 185 steerer, should be long enough as I recall the headtube is pretty short. :D.

Best to steer clear of old pace’s in my experience. They are great if you get a good set, but the quality can be a bit patchy

Not all mineral oil is pink – could be non-shimano fluid. Best way to be sure is to flush the old fluid out if you are concerned.

I run a 50:39 (105) – my legs struggle to push a 53 round unless I’m going downhill or am at the big end of the cassette….it’s rare for me to spin out on the 50 though…

There are some non-techy trails just south of the motorway, starting round the back of Nirvana and around the golf courses – OK for an hour of so if you need to get out.

Mountain High in Pangbourne do good nightrides on Tues night – its only 20 mins down the motorway

    I'm based in Earley
