I was at degla a few weeks ago, and met up by chance with a few guys who had e bikes, I was also on an ebike, mine hasn’t been messed with and cuts out at 15 mph, there’s had been messed with and could go as fast as the gearing would let them, I didn’t ride very long with them, the speed they went up the 3 mile hill was just to fast for what I thought to be safe or sensible, they were going past other riders far to quick for my liking, they seemed an ok bunch but to ride de restricted e bikes at a trail ctr is not on

I have got to say this is the only forum I use on a reg basis and for good reason, I know we can all bitch and moan about anything and everything, but when push comes to shove and people are struggling in life, its not about the car you drive, or the bike you ride its about being healthy and a healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body in my view, and when its not working right there is always support to be found on here, genuine support as well, people offering to talk to you out side of the forum

I have struggled like a lot of folk, thought I was invincible, but im human and I went faulty, spent a bit of time on the phone to the Samaritans and went to see my doc, who was so nice, he made me feel like I was a person, not just some one that he had to get in and get out,
im feeling better these days, not always a bed roses but much better than I was
I just want to say thanks to every one that’s posted on this thread and I hope every one that’s not in a great place takes advice offered and start to get better,

If it gets people out doors more that’s got to be good, I had a really few bad weeks with depression and it was hard work getting out of bed, I went to the doctors had a very long chat with him about going on medication, counselling etc.,

he asked me what I enjoyed doing told him I had been a life long mountain biker and he said well, I can give you pills and they will take a while to work and will be on them for a while, he said the best advice I can give is get out on your bike, not easy when your in the middle of depression but he said I promise you will feel better
so I took his advice, I try and get out every day even for an hour and I haven’t felt this well (in my head) for a long time

if id had a normal bike I just wouldn’t have been able to drum up the motivation, its helped me a lot

Im curious why saxon thinks its not cycling, it seems it to me, I have had a lot of bikes last one was a bionicon which I thought was the last bike id own I liked it that much, I thought I would hate e bikes and my brother had one and was pecking my head to have a go on it, so I borrowed it for the weekend and thought it was such good fun, the option to make it as hard or as easy as you want, I run mine in eco for most of the time so I can get a work out and I get about 40 miles out of it in the peaks, I did ride to Blackpool last year on it last year which was 65 miles and never used a single bar of the battery, I have to say its been totally reliable and the only down side is the weight, but I am a fairly big fella so lifting it over gates is not usually a problem,

When I have ridden with a group im more than happy to ride in the pack or at the back but I do appreciate some people can be dicks, but as a bit of kit I just think they are brill

some one said to me that a few years ago people had to wind up windows up in cars but now most cars have electric windows, just make the job a bit easier, same with e mail few years ago letters were common now we just send an e mail because its quicker and easier, I think the same kind of things will apply to these bikes

There is always going to be people who like to punish them selves on the hills and that’s ok they are doing what they like to do, I like to ride my bike for fun and its a lot of fun, I ride more now than I have ever done,

well I bought one, a scott 710 e genius about 12 months ago, I thought there is no way I would ever have one until some one lent me one for a day, and it was FUN, and that’s why I ride for fun, im never going to win anything so I don’t train, I like to ride and it just made it more fun, I am pretty fit, 47 years old and not over the hill just yet, if you want one and can afford one why not, I find it very hard to make the back wheel spin out because the power delivery is very smooth, its been trouble free since I bought it and if I ride with other people I tend to only use eco

for all the haters, get over your self, they are here and they will become more popular if you don’t like it fair enough you don’t have to, we are all entitled to our point of view, but remember the countryside is for everyone not just you with the holeyer than though attitude

I know exactly how you feel, I have cut the flex of the hoover to use as a rope, got it all set up round my neck stood on the chair, but I just didn’t have the bottle to kick the chair away, jumped in a river on a very cold January night but survived, these were a few years ago now, but like you the black cloud of depression is always near, I don’t have an answer for you, Im still here and today the sun is shining, I feel the same about the state of the world, but there are a lot of good people in the world as well as bad, I had a long talk to my partner yesterday and to sum up be thank full for what you have got not what you haven’t, if your healthy your doing ok, like me we just have to figure out where we go next, try and keep your chin up

I really don’t know how they can at the moment, I have more outgoings than I have income so I am having to work more hours in a job I don’t like, im not to embarrassed to say I have no qualifications so my job out look is bleak, due a inspection on my flat later this morning were I expect my rent to go up, so not great really, I try to look on the bright side had a great day at the otter centre and then went watching people fly para gliders up on rushop edge, sun shone for a change and it was lovely,
when I was about 20 I had my life all planned out, retire at 55, house paid and so on
now im 47 and life has not gone like that, it makes me very sad

just a bit of an explanation, I am not any angry bell end or try not to be, but there have been a few posts on here about fellas finding life tough, and I am certainly finding life tough, I have had several good jobs in the past and then life took a big turn for the worse, divorce.

The ex wife got most of it ended up owning a children’s nursery that we owned which she has now sold and here parents gave her a barn which she has now converted to a very nice house mortgage free, on the plus side she has been a very good mum to our 3 children,

I in the mean time have limped along and watched my life go down and down, there are many other factors as well which I wont bore you all with, I suppose in a nut shell when I got divorced my ex wife seemed to take it in her stride and I didn’t and life for me just got harder and harder, on a day to day basis I deal with it ok, but if I sit and think about all the mistakes, and I have made more than my fair share it takes me to a place that I hate, I hate my self and most of the world with it, and I feel like my future is some how held back my past, which is just like a living nightmare, so I am sorry for any offence cause by ME being the prick, I enjoy this forum very much because I find it good for advice on all sorts of stuff not just about bikes

    sorry for the shitty spelling,

I had had a lot of bikes over the years and I have been riding for a while now, I am 47 and started cycling when I was about 16, always enjoyed it went on honeymoon on our bikes to Spain etc

always ridden a normal bike and the some one lent me an e bike, a Scott 710 e genius with plus size wheels,
I totally loved it made the hills les of a slog, I don’t agree that its all about fitness and pushing your self some times I want to go for a ride and it be a bit easier, during the hot weather it was a blessing
I thought I would of not liked it at all it was very heavy but in terms of sheer enjoyment I couldn’t fault it
I kept it in eco mode and think you could get a 50 mile ride out of it in that setting, I didn’t consider it cheating, I would if I was in a race with some one with out a battery and they would probably win because the power cut out over 15mph

I do think that e mountain bikes will be the next big thing

I have loved watching it so far, but that’s 5 lives lost and prob 5 family’s in a total state of bereavement
how many more before something has to change, 5 lives lost in F1 in a week of racing and I doubt there would be another race till something was done

I watched for 10 min then turned it of, utter rubbish and as for Chris Evans, he reminds me of thrush, a right irritating c**t

are the riders selfish, I think we all agree they are very brave and talented, but do you think they give a thought about there next of kin, I think I couldn’t do it, I can ride a bike but no where near that fast but even if I could I don’t think for me personally I would risk checking out of this life early for it

    milkyman
    Free Member

here’s my POV, as I say I do like to watch it a lot more than I do F1, I just find it a lot more exciting, but every year some one is killed and with that brings a life changing event for friends and family, if this were to happen in F1 then I think changes would be made, its a sport at the end of the day,

I don’t know how the organisers could change it to make it safer with out making it dull but I do feel there has been to many lives lost, I think now the bikes are to fast for the course, average lap speed of 133mph and doing 200mph at certain points on the course is mind blowing
I think to be a rider there you have to be very brave and skill full. and also extremely selfish, I see it time and again where they say he died doing what he loved, Im sure the next of kin would say he loved doing it but I didn’t want him to die doing it,

I cant get my head around risking my life when I have a wife kids mum dad gran etc.

I love riding my mountain bike, but I would not do it if I thought there was a chance I was going to die doing it, yes there is a chance I might come of but knowing me id only be doing 20-25 mph so a lot less risk
both F1 and the TT are at the edge of motor sport, F1 because of the tech involved in the cars, and the TT because of the nature of the course and the speed

what I would like to see is F1 more exciting to watch and the TT made safer, maybe both sports should have a look at each other and see if there is any thing they could do
