I have a Chinese 3D printer, Wanhao D5S and it is really good, prints reasonably quickly and doesn’t need configuring every print.

I would recommend the Wanhao Duplicator i3, cheap but good for the money as it comes with heated build plate and MK10 extruder. When I looked into it, you buy a cheap printer, get into it and realise that you need to improve this n that and then you’ve spent double the money..

I use Fusion 360 to design things which can be printed. Again loads of tutorials on that. There are loads of websites that you can download designs and effectively print them. Thingiverse is the most well known.

How easy is it to get up and running?
Pretty easy, the hard bit is learning the effects of changing settings as one thing usually affects another, but you won’t be able to learn this until you have a printer.

    Thoughts
Do not get hung up on specs such as layer height. You will rarely printer lower than 0.2mm layer height due to the amount of time it will take, reducing to 0.1mm will double the print time. My printer goes to 0.05mm layer height, I have only ever printed at that height once, due to the stupid amount of time it takes to print.
Same goes for build plate area, you will rarely print something as big as your build plate due to the print time. I have a giant lego batman head to print which is about 160mm diameter and 180mm tall, it says it may take 24hours to print! I have yet to build up the courage to print while I’m out or in bed and need to buy a smoke alarm for the room the printer is in.

Once you get your printer I’ll be happy to give you pointers.

It’s a puppy, but IF it is ever to do beating, you shouldn’t be giving it any toys to chew.

    Why?

Because it can become hard mouthed, as it encourages biting down on things. The dog should be able to carry a bird without creating any marks on it. The only things it should be given to chew is food/nylabones or a kong toy with food inside. Squeaky toys are a big no no. It should also not be encouraged to do the death shake or play tug of war. Let’s not get off topic here though as the OP is miles away from gundog training, but these are the foundations that are instilled from an early age.

There is some good advice here, find a good trainer, a good one will go above and beyond to help you.

    Tavistock? That’s not me!

I like the gnarbox, think the Passport pro is in the lead at the moment as it can used as a video server for breaks and storage back up.

 Probably! Unless there is another mountain biker with mediocre skills filming everything going by the same name.

PeterPoddy, I’m not sure I can go through 4-8hrs of footage each day 8O
Uploading to YT takes ages, might not have internet and the quality is very poor compared the raw footage. It maybe 6 months before I get to edit the footage, and transcoding it a few times degrades the quality severely.

QuikKey is for Android, damn you’s Apple!

rossburton, I’m thinking the Passport pro maybe the best and easiest way to go, although the RPi is a lot cheaper…

20 days is 80 hours. No way is he going to be bothered going through that when he’s done

You can see why it might be 6 months before I edit! With multiple camera angles, its a bit shorter than 80 hrs, sometimes there might be 4 cams filming the same thing. Once its all synced watching time can be drastically reduced, especially on double speed.

I can fill a 128gb SD card in 3-4 days with video and photos and need it for 2-3 weeks worth of footage. I will say most of it is complete rubbish, you just never know when someone will crash or capture something spectacular.

More cards? At £50 a card that is an expensive solution!
    I have 6 batteries, a charger and a 20ah portable powerpack

aracer, I have an iPhone, not sure I can do that?

rossburton, you are thinking like me, can use it for more than just file transfers.

I’ve used the GoPro app, they use the low res version, at least when I’ve trimmed and posted that footage it has and my iPhone is only 128gb and even less free.

Our 8 month old Cocker spaniel pup is driving us all insane.

Welcome to the world of Cockers, they are not always easy to train and may require a different way of training.

We took him to training classes and he was really good, however he has regressed so badly it’s making walking him a chore rather than being fun.

Sounds like you are not training anymore. Training should be for at least the first 4 years, a minimum of 1 class a week and should spend at least an hr a day training when they are under 18 months if you want a dog that might do what you ask of it.

    Chasing birds
    Not doing his recall
Going so far away from us when off the lead we can’t see him

This can be corrected with training, your trainer should help.

    Stealing food off table

You said Cocker right? How big is the Cocker!? 8O

Jumping on sofa and doing wall of death around the front room

Not enough mental or physical stimulation or separation anxiety.

He has snapped at the wife

The dog should’ve been pinned to the floor by your wife it it did this, you only need to do it once and you do not need to do it nastily. She should also be doing 50% of the training, that earns respect from the dog.
EDIT: Just read your reply of your wife pointing at the dog.. You should never point at a puppy, they will usually instinctively snap at the pointy thing, your fingers.

Burning the grass with his wee

Never had a dog before then.. You can get rocks for their water, yes they really work, grass doesn’t burn.

Chewing his beds and toys to bit

It’s a puppy, but IF it is ever to do beating, you shouldn’t be giving it any toys to chew.

It’s getting to the point where its not enjoyable to have him around any more.

Just like a baby when they are having a bad time, you get through this and is worth it in the end.

He gets lots of walks and attention bit still he is a pain.

If he is getting this then it might be a problem created by the family. Look up separation anxiety, it very common and easily corrected if you have your family trained well.

We have even talked about taking him to a rescue centre and giving him away. We would never do this with any of our previous dogs.

If you have already thought this, but haven’t thought of how to correct these issues, then maybe you don’t have the right skills and mindset to train a Cocker.

Someone tell me it gets better !!!

It does but it will take a lot of effort as you already have issues. This is coming from someone who’s mother is a very good dog trainer, I’ve helped train working Springers & Cockers over the years. I would rather have a Springer than a Cocker due to the way of training and damn Cockers temperament.

Please stick with it, I have always said, its not the training of the dog that is difficult, its the training of the owners that is hard.

The Fiesta gets great reviews, and is cheap tax and good mpg

 Good MPG!? I guess you haven’t looked into that, high 20’s / low 30’s with a heavy foot. I’ve seen as low as 17mpg driven by complete idiots.

Imgur is a lot more simpler & easier to use for posting to forums. Very similar to Photobucket.

I went for option 2, Hatchbag.co.uk, it cost a pretty penny, as I went for boot flap and extended area that covers to the front seats. Fitment is pretty good, better than I could’ve done and a lot better than the eBay specials. I thought it was pretty thin, but it is more than upto the job. Sliding my bikes pedals on it and it doesn’t mark.

It’s great with the dogs, I cut a bit of vet bed to size for when I do have to take Mothers dogs, otherwise they just slide about.

As the boot is carpeted, the liner just used Velcro hooks to stick to the carpet.

I bought a set of Sabatier knives as the interwebz said good things. The finish grinding was pretty poor so I had them re-ground at work, we are a machine knife manufacturer. The conclusion was the quality has taken a dive, cheap Steel and poor grinding, was also as soft as cheese.

I’m Steel looking for a decent set of knives that don’t cost the earth.

Look after the cutting edge and they will last a lifetime.

looked at Type R’s and Focus ST but the Golf looks gets the better reviews

Ignore the reviews and drive them. I found the Golf pretty numb and didn’t like the interior. I would never have a Focus ST and friends have a Type R. I ended up with a 130i as I wanted more than 4 cylinders and no Turbo. Its very nimble and the soundtrack is quite addictive! It is a small car though, slightly bigger than a Fiesta, I can just get my 29er LT FS in the rear with seats down and wheels out.

If you only have a day then the bike park will satisfy. Trailforks will help you decide on which trails to do.

If you can, ride Top of the World, drop off into Kybers/Kush/Kashmir/BC’s Trail, I love the natural singletrack feel, then back up the Creekside lift.

EDIT: ^^ Take up an offer of someone showing you round, they will be able to satisfy your riding needs!

^^I’d say that is Google Maps quality, unless you really close.

I have an autonomous Drone and there are very few places I can use it, due to the rules and the public perception. I have been in the countryside, 2 fields away from anyone, so probably 300m if not more and have had a person walk across the two fields to tell me I cannot fly it, even though I have permission from my friend who owns the field. I was well within the rules, yet had to stop as he was now less than 50m from my drone.

People see a drone and get angry for no reason at times, I blame the media for hating drones since before they were available to the public.

I bought it for getting some footage while riding, but there are very few places in this country that allow a drone and the places that do I am very wary of using it due to public perception and people getting angry.

Probably totally irreverent to what you will be using them for..

Mackie SRM450’s matched to a Peavey amp or a Rotel if in the spare room.
    & Adam A3x Active Speakers

I think in the living room there are a pair of 3 way floorstanders that are well over 10 years old.. Recently re-coned my Kenwood active sub which definitely helps the floor standers.

Loved the sound of the B&W 601’s hooked up to the Rotel or Citrus amp, very neutral sound.

My nan passed away when I was 9 or 10. I used to see her in the hallway for a few weeks after she passed, I never told anyone as I put it down to my imagination. My mother told me the other week that she used to see her mum (my nan) on the stairs.

Lived for a couple of years in a Haunted house. I would get woken up at 3am most mornings, it felt like someone poked me, girlfriends also had the same experience… Well they thought it was the ghost.

It had a spiral staircase and quite often late evening, early morning I would see a shadow moving across the hall. Once I walked through it, and that felt damn horrible, like someone walking over your grave, but a million times worse.

A friends mum is well into her spiritual stuff and she offered to take a look, she did and things just got worse after that. We moved out soon after that.

I still prefer not to believe in this stuff as it means I get a good nights sleep and rarely have visions, when I did embrace it most nights I would get woken up or start seeing things.

You used to be able to read the RFID cards from 3ft away. NFC cards didn’t have any encryption on them, they were powered by the reader and used a rolling code system which should make them secure. It wouldn’t surprise me if the system has been beat, as this was back in 2013.

£93 for a wallet!? Damn they saw you guys coming!

EDIT: £39 for the wallet, not too bad

I see most things have been covered..
Speaker cables from one location to all rooms, it’s a lot cheaper than the wireless systems.
Ethernet to all rooms & some more.. +1 where your smart mirror will go

As someone else has said, putting ducting in the walls so you can add/replace cables (speaker/HDMI/ethernet/wotever is the flavour of the month) is the better option and quite common in Europe.

I’m not a Sonos fan as it won’t work with Spotify free. The lack of Bluetooth support is silly.

Deja Vu… Google Nexus Car Sat Nav, there are a few ROMS that you can use. I don’t think the sound quality from the headphone jack is very good. I would probably go with a car stereo or amp with a Bluetooth receiver for the Nexus sounds.

I think the ridge run is at the top of Couis 1 lift. Pila is well worth a visit. I think it is an 11km run down the valley floor from the top of the Chamole lift.

The only good Garmin I found was the 3598LMTD, quick, looks like a mobile phone and about the size of one too.

As below the laws states you cannot hold a mobile phone while your engine is running. I am not sure if this also applies to touching your mobile phone that is in a mount, eg to turn the volume up or down. IMO you shouldn’t be able to touch your phone while driving or receive any form of texts.

    https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/know-how/mobile-phone-laws/%5B/url%5D

I think I see nearly 50% of drivers using their phones at traffic lights. The amount of people I have to beep because they are looking down at their phones and not at the car in front that pulled away 10 seconds ago is getting stupid.

You say backing up? The phone or just the photos?

I use iCloud, 50gb for 79p per month for peace of mind, backing up my phone every night. I don’t backup my photo’s as that would take me over the 50gb.

If it’s the whole phone you want backed up to the share, I don’t think its possible without iTunes.

This way of stealing cars has been around for many years now, but it did hit the news a couple of months ago due to some newer cars being manufactured without it being rectified.

Sometimes they don’t even steal the car, they steal the contents. I don’t know if have to prove to your insurance company that you locked your vehicle as there are no signs of forced entry. :|

Yamaha here, must’ve had it for 6 years at least. Pretty good sound once its warmed up. Friend bought a mid range Onkyo at the same time, it lasted 2 years and broke, he is now on a Denon and that is going the same way. I have come to the conclusion his family don’t treat the amps with any respect.

HDMI / ARC was easy to setup and has never had any issues (Samsung/Yamaha). Well it did when it decided to play the sound through the TV & Amp once, but turned it off n on again and it was fixed.

I have done a fair few tests with Garmin Vs iPhone…

    My results found

Accurate times = Garmin (1Hz), they were consistent runs and consistent times

Fast times = iPhone (1Hz), they were not consistent, more often it knocked 10 seconds of a 2 minute run, occasionally added 5-10 seconds.

I spent a few mornings chasing my friends times and realised something was fishy when he started the trail, I waited 10-20 seconds, caught him up half way down the trail and then compared times and he was quicker than me.

I have also used a dedicated BT GPS XGPS160 (10Hz), but don’t have a conclusion yet as I have only used it twice on the bike.

I will also say you cannot use Google Sat View as a way of seeing if its accurately tracing the trail.

Why are you switching off your Pi NAS? The whole idea of a NAS is to be kept on 24/7. I would check the command it is using for Shutdown, SD’s do corrupt if the Pi is not shutdown correctly.

I am using LMS & PiCorePlayers (they have Airplay and a few other features) around the house. I then use a VPN to connect to the house network to access all the music.

I also use Plex for video, but this requires a decent machine to transcode on the fly.
