A good reason to not go for Sonos is its expensive, there are cheaper alternatives, although you will have to do some work yourself.

Logitech Media Server & PiCorePlayer = Cheaper Sonos

Synced music throughout the house, cheaper and great SQ depending on the equipment (amp/speakers) its hooked up to.

I liked him… Until he bought the best Volvo Amazon ever which has some parts from the Koenigsegg and goes like shit of a shovel.

If you have a couple of Pi’s, you could try out PiCorePlayer. I have them around the house and you cannot tell it’s not Sonos.

There is a 4OD app for Samsung TV’s.

I would go for a Samsung, but I’d also wait for January sales.

Just waiting for a decent deal to come up for Black Friday week.

iKettle – WiFi Kettle 35% off, from £99 to £65.

Yes I’m too lazy to walk in to the Kitchen to put the kettle on.

EDIT: You’ve only got 8 minutes left to claim this!

Now waiting for a good deal on a Slow Cooker.

I can’t claim all of this, but I’m helping a friend make a custom gullwing sump for his 4.2 V8 Capri, as the current one is full of holes.

    Before..

Nearly ready for mocking up, deciding where to put sump plug, figuring out how close the steering rack is, etc, etc.

Depends what type of wood you are cutting. 20°-30° Inclusive for soft woods. 30°+ for Hard woods. There also maybe a tip bevel (primary & secondary bevels). Really you should keep the angle already on the axe and it should be a concave bevel, not flat, unless its for carving.

What size TV, what length extension do you want?

I ended up trawling eBay for a good quality (aka heavy duty) wall mount as I needed 800mm+ extension and there aren’t many that do that length.

    Mine was similar to this

Bloody right especially for home use!! Gold plated and everything!

I would get a HP Microserver (NAS Alternative) £100-£150.

I have a ATV2 Jailbreak and a Chromecast and had a Pi with XBMC, this is now a Retro Emulator which is pretty awesome.

If you have an Amazon Prime Account, then don’t get the Chromecast, you cannot play Prime Instant to the Chromecast at the moment.

    Order of goodness:
ATV2 JB – Does everything, doesn’t go wrong and AirPlay everything
ChromeCast – Nice but no Amazon, can only Cast most things, rubbish WiFi, buggy
XBMC – UI is pretty rubbish, I want pictures not text (eg iPlayer)

Back in the day I used FLStudio for electronic music (house/hard house/d&b). I’ve also noticed it has not changed since time began so maybe not a great program anymore. As I haven’t dabbled in sound production for a long time I couldn’t tell you what is the thing to use these days, KVRaudio is a good suggestion.

I would suggest a subscription to Computer Music, it comes with a CD that has sound effects, loops, drums, plugins and even has its own sequencer. Great if you are starting out as it also has a lot of tutorials to follow and free plugins and sounds.

As above, I would probably buy a half decent sound card (MIDI, Guitar, Mic inputs) and either a good pair of studio headphones (more for you than him!) or studio speakers (near field monitors) and later down the line a MIDI controller.

As for a computer you shouldn’t need a super dooper super computer to start with, but a half decent soundcard with the inputs required is needed.

We have one of these here at work.

Ok if you are useless at sharpening, don’t mind it eating away the knife and then spending another 10 minutes making the bevel nice! Useless!

I have tried stones (very expensive stones), steels and machines, they all have their place, but not a single one does everything.

Stones: Great for getting that that razor sharp edge
Steels: Great for renewing a knife that is still ok
Machines: Great for screwed knives, chips and dents

    I’ve just ordered the AnySharp.

Rusty: Nice link, but a bit OTT for kitchen knives!

Started playing the MP last night. After my first go it reminded me of Quake and Unreal Tournament.

Not sure if I like it.

I use a linisher, takes about 4 seconds a blade, but also takes just as long to completely screw up a blade too!

Also have a couple of machines that can sharpen knives up to 12 feet long.

^What he saidm but the CDJ-2000 Nexus does have sync’ing and it’s pretty good.

If you’ve got space go for 1210’s and Serato to play all your MP3’s, it really is pretty good! CDJ’s offer a lot of versatility to your mixing with hot cues, loops and loads more awesome features, but you need to master the basics first, beat matching.

You’re only a real DJ when you can mix on dodgy turntables.

I signed up for a Hexo+[/url] autonomous drone.

Due for release in May next year.

So come May/June I’ll be the idiot at the side of a trail crying because it’s crashed or getting angry because it’s not working, or asking people “have you seen my drone!?” :?

Still thinking about ordering the bits to build my own little quadcopter over winter.. Where was that thread on the £99 quadcopter?

Why Wired: More secure & stable, you can avoid bottlenecks.

You will just need a switch, a good switch, I’ve used Netgear Prosafe stuff and it runs pretty well. 100m+ of Cat 5e/6 Ethernet cable (it’s surprising how much you use), connectors and crimping tool.

If you can run each wall socket with its own cable to the switch you will avoid having bottlenecks. When looking at switches, always buy one with way more sockets than you will use, it’s surprising how things just seem to expand. I put everything, switches, router, wifi, nas all in the airing cupboard with a little ventilation, central spot keeps it all neat n tidy, also means you only have to go to one place to fix a problem.

When I did this at home, we installed 2x lan sockets in each room. While this is fine for the bedrooms, over the years the devices have been added to in the living room, now using 7 ports. So whatever you do decide on, I would add some more for the future.

I guess the rabbits and foxes are seen as vermin…

Rabbits are classed as vermin and foxes as pests here in the UK. I witnessed the aftermath of a fox that had killed 200+ birds, it was not nice.

Climbing through window onto car roof.
Standing on the roof while at 40mph
Lying down on the roof at 60+mph
Driving down some country lanes, turned off lights to see what it was like.
BJ’s and sex while driving to KFC… Yup classy 8)
Racing various out of my league cars and winning through wreckless driving.
Drifting round some round-a-bouts along a straight road, drifting round another round-a-bout, pulling up to my friends house with smoke coming off the wheels… Then I noticed the smoke was flashing blue. I got banned for that and it was a blessing really. Calmed down a lot after that and keep it to the track.
I’m pretty sure there is a lot more, but it was hazy daze back then.

I would like to see that these were when I was 17/18.

I have deliberately not opened this thread… Then to see someone say

    Step away from the thread.

I did lol. It is an expensive hobby if you want good stuff. I still have a my NTC3+, a Tamiya drifter (which actually helped learn real drifting) and a Hyper 8.5 Buggy… Luckily I stopped as I still wanted a truggy and monster truck.

Progress… Heading down the Tamiya Hornet bundle route I think, with upgraded bearings and batteries and a quick charger.

What sort of run time are you with Tamiya kit getting per set of batteries?
Yes… This is how it starts… Already looking at upgrades and batteries.

I must not go on ebay and start looking at RC’s…

If you have two policies for one car, in the event of a claim both insurance policies contribute towards the claim. Effectively you would loose both NCB’s.

E-Prance Mini 0803 here. It is really good, really quite small and really cheap. Records automatically, has G sensor and a few more other useless features. Loads of videos on Youtube.

I bought one as my car is invisible to a select few drivers.

I don’t think Snowcard’s limit is £350, I think it is whatever you set it to (upto £3k). Here is the wording.

Snowsport/Activity/Dive/Golf equipment; up to the amount specified on your Insurance Schedule
Subject to the appropriate premium having been paid you will be covered for the replacement cost (after allowing for wear, tear and loss of value) of your snowsport equipment (snowboard or skis including bindings, boots and poles), activity equipment, dive or golf equipment if it is lost, stolen or damaged.

As above, apply wet, use a wet cloth to get most of the bubbles out then use a hairdryer which helps it stick down. If you have a lot to do with complex shapes, cut the shapes out of paper first.

I had the same thing happen to mine. I had a LBS install it and had to tighten it sooo much to stop it coming loose. In the end I stripped it down and removed one of the spacers/shims, tightened to what I normal tighten headsets too and its now fine. No idea why one shim would make that much of a difference, but it did.
