Matt_bl – That is the only way to play GT, otherwise it is way too easy, online challenges are good/competitive. Looking forward to testing out Project CARS this evening

Nice video. I recognise a few trails including Mont Jovet, La Varda and some I can’t remember the names of.

La Varda is a good trail, but I wouldn’t do it first time without a guide or someone that knows the trail. It is a trail to build up to as the exposure can be quite daunting to some.

SS Nano’s are slightly concave, but you’d never notice. Why don’t you just grind down the pins so they are flat?

Find a map, look for red squiggly lines, the tighter and more squiggles the better the trail. I am only going from what guides and other people have said, I go guided.

You won’t need a detailed map for Pila or La Thuile.

I can get the grease in, I was wondering if someone had come up with an easier way than removing plug, fill plug with grease screw on, repeat 100 times.

I wouldn’t buy white forks, they show the battle scars and scuffs all too easily.

    Malvern Rider, just do it.

I expect it will easier than when I did it in a Mk2 Escort that couldn’t go much over 70mph. Even that wasn’t too bad, but it did take us 20+ hours from Bristol, navigating by nothing more than memory as SatNav packed up as soon as we hit France. We didn’t have a map, it was also first time in France. If that’s not bad enough we are planning on doing it again this year.

I do recommend a Tag for the tolls, you can make up a lot of time by cruising through the tolls at 30mph not having to stop. You also get some strange looks from other cars, as you can see them thinking “I’m sure we passed that car a while a go” as they overtake yet again.

RR Type 4 was way too easy and pretty shit.

These are the racing games you should try:
    GT3 or 4
    Burnout
    NFS
    Micro Machines v4
    Twisted Metal
    Wipeout
    MotoGP

Assuming you are using an amp wiring kit/original wires with amp, the colour black would mean it is an earth wire.

If you think you have a wire left over, I would check through all your ICE wiring to make sure it is correct.

    …or a completely insane idea here… Buy a 2nd magnet. 8O

I have the 705 & 800 and they have always shown the speed while climbing through forest trees, but I don’t really check that often. I can’t imagine there being too much difference in hardware between the 500 and 800 series.

I’ll be at TWR for a week starting the 22nd August. The following week we’ll be heading further down to Pila for a few days before heading back, may stop in Chamonix for a day or two on the way back.

We’ll be driving the Mk2 RS Escort again, this time without the bikes on the roof. Somehow we are going to cram everything inside, between the bucket seats and rollcage, boot is filled with the fuel tank.. Yes it’s going to be fun getting everything to fit. :|

How wise it is to give Tramadol to another rider? Genuine question

It is only for me and one other guy who is also used to it and only for extreme emergency back pain. I would certainly not give it to anyone who has not had it before.

Ibrufen, Paracetamol, Tramadol, Antihistamines, some bandages, plasters, steritrips & foil blanket. I only carry this if it’s a big ride with my ill prepared friends.

I like the adjustable forks as my bike does it all, everything from Bridleways, Trail Centres to Bike Parks & Alps. They are good on bikes that are very slack, dropping the front from 180 to 140 really does help on those steep inclines and long climbs.

Quite often I’ll keep the front in 140 mode and the rear in 110mm and it is perfect like that for most things, only need to unleash the 180/185mm monster on tough downhills, which transforms the bike. Really does feel like 2 bikes rolled into one.

I wouldn’t recommend 2-Step, especially the Lyrik 2 Step, unless you want to get it serviced twice a year due to the 2 step going wrong and don’t mind having the damper replaced once in a while. I hear good things about the Fox TALAS 2015 fork, but for some reason they haven’t released it yet!?

My Edge 705 & 800 have been great for Turn by Turn navigation if the route was correctly programmed or using City Navigator maps. Highly recommend the 800/810 due to the OS Discovery maps. If you just want to log GPS data, the edge 200 or possibly something completely different.

I recently took a 10hz GPS Sky XGPS160 (Garmin & Phones are 1hz) on a ride and was quite impressed. A few more rides needed before I can decide if it is better under tree cover than the Garmin. The only downside so far is it logs standing time as moving time.

I cannot find any info on the Endura range, no information on their website. :|
I want to know how big they are and if they will make my small face look like this:

This is exactly what my Specialized ones look like.

It wouldn’t surprise if its got something to do with converting the sound to 128kbps (max quality BT plays I think) and loosing some of the dynamic range. Listening through the jack it doesn’t need to convert it to shit quality. I could be completely wrong tho.

You can also use a “now free” bit of software to do your GPS video overlays. I use it with a GoPro and stand alone GPS unit XGPS160/Edge 800

Now free as GoPro has bought the company.

Ton & thisisnotaspoon: That picture is looking at Mont Jovet, Savoie region, French Alps. The climb in front which starts as a double track, soon goes into very steep singletrack, too steep to ride and you end up doing a bit of hike a bike. Eventually you get to the top at 2439m, then its pretty much a two+ hour descent with awesome views.

This is one of the all day rides with The White Room.

I have a video from a couple of years ago, but its pretty shit.

After getting excited posting a photo, I’ve now re-read the first post:

    Scott Genius LT
    Front: 180/140mm / Rear: 185/110mm

    Climbing
Whack the front into 140mm, rear into traction mode (110mm rear) and it climbs really well, if climbing on road you can lock out front and rear via handlebars giving it a hardtail climb ability. Putting it into 140mm lowers the front putting more weight on the front, stopping the front lifting when climbing steep stuff it also allows you to breathe better.

    Descending
Descends really well with in both traction and full mode. I use a mixture of both modes, keeping the front in 180mm. If its really rocky/bumpy/fast I will put it in full 185mm, if its pumpy sorta trail then traction mode really helps keeping the speed pumping.

A few other riders have ridden it around the car park. Let me say first they are all taller than me, I’m 5’8″, most were 6’+ and weigh a fair bit more too. I have a small frame, full mode is set up for big hits and traction mode is setup to have some more preload for small fast bumps and pumpy’ness. The comment that keeps coming back in full mode is “This thing is like a comfy sofa!”

    Comparison to Bronson C 150/150
My friend also has a Genius LT, so I rode the LT he rode the Bronson. He was quicker first time on the Bronson than his Genius LT, travel ain’t everything.

    Faster than the Hardtail?
It feels faster on the hardtail, feels a lot faster, but in reality the LT is faster. You are probably thnking it all depends on the terrain. I tested this at AC and was consistently quicker on the motorway sections than my Hardtail.

I think there are few different types of drivers

Drivers who want to be quicker than the other car
Drivers who want that sensation of driving quick
Drivers who want the sound of a V or screaming revs
    EDIT: There are more types

I am Driver #2 & #3: Personally I am not a huge fan of cars similar to the RS4, you have to be going damn fast (twice the speed limit) for it to feel quick. Driving at normal speeds is like most other normal cars.

Take an old car like a Mk2 RS2000, driving at 30mph in a 30 zone feels fast, it feels more like 50mph and yes the speedo is correct. It’s more than speed, it’s the fact that you get the sensation of driving fast, while still being within the speed limits.

When deciding on a car you need to ask yourself which driver are you.

If you are driver #1 and want to drive fast, prove to yourself that you are fast, take it to a track.
