wow, that’s very clever – can you get that software for a PC?

Not this one I’m afraid. There probably will be ones around, (and they may actually finish the job!)

catflees – thanks – liking yours too. Did you ever animate it?

One of my photos, MacOSaiX program using Flickr ‘Statueofliberty’ tagged images as fillers. I left it processing all night, and it still didn’t finish. This was a backup save at about 90% :?

    No.

Wearing high-viz made me feel like a target when I used to commute in all the gear. Switched to stealthy and didn’t have anywhere near the number of problems. I’d say weekly near misses to quarterly.

More importantly, cyclists kitted out to the nines in ‘safety’ gear makes cycling an unattractive option for potential cyclists. “Look how dangerous it must be!”. The more people who cycle in ‘normal’ clothing the better – and it’d teach drivers to actually pay attention.

Nice theme! I used a photo I took at Xmas time last year when I was there, from the Staten Island Ferry. It was bloody freezing!

Not greatly imaginative – it’s another Illustrator jobbie.

I’ve once had ropey service from TFT after a mix-up in communications – which left me a bit :|

They then excelled themselves the next time I used them, replacing several knacked parts on an elderly, rare Boxxer for free! Won me back in style. :D

Sealskinz, Assos winter longs with footloops over the socks and Endura Road Overshoes – the gimpy looking, tight neoprene ones. When they stopped being effective, I used to spray Juice Lubes Fork Juice over the neoprene – that kept the water beading off them nicely.

If it was a ‘k’ as in knight, it could be considered a endocentric digraph, or simply an empty letter.

She asked what time the lift closed. I said half two. She looked confused. The guide clarified by saying two thirty. Woman then turned to me and ask why I couldn’t speak English properly!.

The Americans have quite a different manner of talking about time. A girl at the bus stop here in the US leant over and wanted to look at my watch to see the time. My watch is in 24hr – it showed, say, 16:45.
    Her: What time is that?

In a similar style, saying ‘a fortnight’ will confuse them. Therefore I use it often

After me pointing out the Best Before Date of 17/09/2011 on an imported UK bottle of beer to a US waitress last week – “Oh, that must mean the 17th month…” 8O

(I wasn’t bothered that it was past the date, but thought I best mention it)

Not bibs, but I have some Dainese Impact Shorts, which are pretty subtle, but protect hips and tailbone well. They have a small amount of saddle padding, not as much as proper bike shorts.

I quite often wear them and not the upper body armour as the upper armour is too restrictive

Yup – I wrote a reasonable chunk (at the time) about one Mr Steve Peat, back when it was a really short entry. Some of my edits are still there. Also corrected spelling and style on a number of articles, and reverted a some vandalism on another.

I used to ride at GT and Inners, there’re plenty spots on the long climbs to pass someone, so it’s never been an issue there. On the DHs, if I get to the top and see a group getting ready to set off AND I want to stop, it’s fairly easy to judge how quick they’ll be through a section and set off accordingly. If I do meet another slower group, I normally stop entirely, hopefully before they’ve realised I’m there. I don’t then ‘waste’ a section by riding it slowly, they don’t get hassled/pressured by freewheels clicking away. This sometimes backfires, by them stopping 20 yards up the trail – meaning I’ve got to restart and get back up to speed with no rest – but it’s all good.

One thing that I do, and let others do, but seems to annoy a small minority of others – if I’m riding up to the summit (say, top of Spooky Wood) and I’m not stopping, I’ll ride through the folks hanging around beside the trail and keep going. Not people on bikes waiting to ‘drop in’ but the ones bimbling around getting ready to leave.

    Opinions?

I guess the pictured tug has to fit over the outside, and is malleable enough for the loop to bend when the axle is done up. Looks like it should work.

If you can, wwap your axle for a solid one with nuts.
Tugs etc, become redundant and the wheel wont budge.

Tugless, the only way I could get my Langster’s nutted wheel to not budge was to tighten it so much I’d have needed a large spanner to take it off. Chain tugs meant I could use a Jethro Tule AND keep the wheel in place.

Admittedly that is on a Alu frame rather than a steel like the iO – might make a difference.

Never greased any attachments – levers, shifters or lock-on collars – on the bars, not even the bolts, And to be honest, I’ve never heard of anyone doing so.

I nip them up tight enough so they don’t move in normal use, but still allows them to turn in the event of a crash.

Then why isn’t everyone with GiffGaff?

No traditional advertising means a lot of people have never heard of it.

This feels slightly too good to be true. Where’s the catch?

None that I’ve found. Well, if you have any problems, it’s web based help only – that could be a catch in some people’s eyes. But compare that to phoning up a customer service dept…

So does GiffGaff get the exact same coverage/reception/signal etc. as O2?

I find the only glasses I can get on with are ones where I can’t see the frames. Had a lovely pair of Specialized Arc Adaptalites for the road bike, but they are currently in storage in the wrong country. Couldn’t find anything similar when I needed a set here, so ended up with a really close fitting pair, so the frames stay out of my field of view. Unfortunately, they suffer from sweat ending up on them, and then evaporating to leave sticky blobs of nastiness on the inside. Might try the Rain-x trick on the inside.

On the DH bike, with full-face helmet – love the Oakley O-Frames. I actually really like the slightly disconnected feeling as I hammer mince my way down the hill

‘squeaking-like-a-frightened-rabbit’ noise on the back of my hand
How do you do this and what does it sound like?

Well, if you haven’t heard what it sounds like, try this sound clip It basically involves sucking on the back of one’s hand to create a high pitched squealing squeak. A gamekeeper showed me the tricky. He would use it to attract stoats and the like to him…

I’ve been hit in the face by a bat. We were out testing lights for a magazine, and had about 12 sets of lights between 5 of us, all on for a laugh. Perhaps we blinded the poor thing.

Years ago I spotted a barn owl on a fencepost. It flew off, but I tried the ‘squeaking-like-a-frightened-rabbit’ noise on the back of my hand. The owl returned and hovered about 2 feet above me – totally silently – , just in the edge of my lights, claws down, trying to work out what was going on. I decided to stop as I didn’t want it trying a lucky dip on my face. Amazing experience.

    Both done!

I’d be interested to learn whether people who ‘light up like a christmas tree’ on the roads, have more or fewer incidents than riders who go for a minimal setup. My personal experience when I commuted was that I felt much safer dressed in black with just one FO powerful front and rear light, than when I used multiple lights, Sam Browne belt, frame reflectors and reflective rucsac cover.

My trace was hand-drawn in Illustrator using a graphic tablet.

Strokes were given a standard pencil or charcoal brush. Dropped the photo in, and then just drew on top of it. Nothing fancy, or particularly arty.

I have a pencil and paper sketch of the conker to finish off, depends if I get the time…

    I love Littondale!

We used to ride through the top on the round Pen-y-Ghent route, on our way to Hull Pot. There’s also the classic Mastilles Lane dropping into the bottom at Kilnsey Crag, and there’s an awesome dh up from Kettlewell and round to Starbottom. Then we used to link into another loop from/to Littondale, either dropping into Arncliffe, or Litton. It was a while ago and I can’t remember which, but I’m thinking Arncliffe.

    I wasn’t feeling like a pencil and notebook last night, so went for a digital tracing;

And then dropped it back into Photoshop to paintify the colours, but in the end, I’m not sure I like the combination. The ‘painting’ on its own doesn’t qualify – I just used the mixer brush onto of the photo colours.

I hate doing cup and cone bearings. I hate them so much I refuse to buy hubs that use them. Much rather press in new cartridges than faff about with locknuts and cones and

Mainly because I suck at doing them mind.
