For me it depended on how much chain slack I had to take up. When I had a certain frame, without using a half link, there was simply too much slack for a sprung one to be effective – the chain bounce would overcome the spring and I’d dump the chain.

I went for a DMR STS bolt in one. It was more of a faff to adjust for chain wear/stretch, and taking the wheel out for tyre changes/car packing/punctures, but overall, I think I preferred the bolt in option.

Is there something hanging outside the artbox? Depending on settings, it can rasterize just the artbox, or can size the document to hold all the artwork.

Another Waveceptor/Tough Solar G-Shock user here. More than happy with it, love it.

but was it not the UK’s 1st trail centre. which through the efforts of E and T and of course others became the most highly regarded?

Well, how about Coed-y-Brenin? There were waymarked trails and a cafe there in 1996 IIRC. Pretty sure the Hub wasn’t there in 2001 when I 1st went to GT. There were great trails at GT before the Hub opened. (I could say better, as they weren’t as sanitised and ‘sustainable’.

I’ve failed this week. I live about 3 miles from the Mason-Dixon line in the US, so should have been able to get something, but there’s too much snow around to get out on the bike. Boooo!

Which way were you heading? I’d be impressed if you fishtailed heading towards Inners, unless you booted it in a RWD car…

I use an Assos AirJack 851. Windproof panels on the arms and front, and a thin back make it great as long as you keep moving. It is of itself not that warm; it comes into its own when the wind comes/you start cutting through cold air.
It’s cut incredibly tight, as it’s really a roadie top, but it fits a skinny runt like me well. I wear it in various combos from Autumn throughout Spring, with just a jersey when it’s warmer, to the top layer in a multi-layer sandwich when it gets -12?

Possibly the best purchase I’ve ever made in cycling garments.

There is a heck of a lot of stuff to ride in the Morzine/Les Gets/Portes du Soleil area. Yes it’s busy, yes it’s full of brits, but there’s plenty of trails for everyone. It is more DH than XC, although there are many longer DH runs rather than straight down world cup style.

We went to Tignes last summer for the opening of their new bike park. Thought it would be good for a change. It was awful. We left after 2 days as we’d ridden everything to death, and went to Morzine.

    UN52 Square Taper (with RS8s)
Although if I were to get a new set, it’d be X-type RS8s with a Hope BB. Fact.

I use a TA Axix on the fixed, which is great as it’s a piece of wee to change the bearings on. (Edited my shocking grammar)

It’s the hybrid riding, fully reflected up, cycle path grumpy buggers that really annoy me with their grumpy, staring straight ahead IGNORE EVERYONE approach to riding.

On the other hand – have you ever ridden against the flow of a Charidee ride? You can hardly breathe from the constant returnation of greetings. You’ve seen one rider on this mile of road – I’ve seen 400 of you! Aaaargggghhhhh!

You had Photoshop and it couldn’t open them? Adobe Camera Raw normally deals with all such RAW files, unless it’s an old copy of Photoshop and a newer camera, in which case you can often download updates for ACR.

There are some bargains around in 25.4mm, (50% off RRP 2010 flat EC70s for example.)

I think a major advantage in oversize is choice. It’s very tricky to find exactly the stem rise and length you’re after in 25.4mm, unless it is a generic size. You can get just about anything in 31.8mm.

I didn’t notice that much of a stiffness increase in size, but I really noticed a difference going from a noodly Giant stem to a chunkier RaceFace stem, on a old Giant AC a few years ago.

Some sort of Casio G-Shock Radio Controlled doo-dah. Trouble is, I bought it in the UK, and now moved to the USA. It can’t get a time signal here and is consequently losing time rapidly. About 1min in 5 months :-(

We got some stuff done with Vistaprint a few years ago in a previous job. They seemed to offer just about anything with your logo on (and try and get you to add lots to your order before checkout…)

    Done.

By the way, a normal bolt IS threaded, a bolt with trashed threads is stripped.

Went to Tignes last summer. It was awful. We left after 2 days and went to Morzine.

Very little open (including the main lift, even though it was the ‘opening of the bike park weekend’) There was too much snow and melt-water. We could find about 1 bar open, 1 restaurant. Tiny supermarket with barely anything fresh. One outdoor shop that had a few bike parts on sale.

The Porte Du Soleil had loads of new tracks since I was last there in 2006, so it’s worth a re-visit if you haven’t been for a while.

I would plump for Chatel. Or Morgins, but I think that will cost a bit more as it’s Swiss.

I used to use a big pair of pliers at an angle, so each jaw contacted diagonally opposite ends of the link. That always worked for me.

There are special pliers you can get too.

I’m always amazed by how varied people’s experience of the same brakes are! For every ‘X is rubbish’ there is a ‘X is maintenance free’.

I’ve run Hopes for the last 10 years (including 5 years on Mono M4s) and would never change, but you’ve discounted those!

I would shell out for a new pair of tubes (plus a spare) and get narrower tyres. They’ll be a good bit lighter and faster. I used to run Specialized Fat Boys on similar Mavic 717s which were 1″ or 1.25″, not as quick as a road wheel, but pretty fast.

I swapped from a slicked up MTB to a Langster (1st Gen) to a Tarmac. It took a while to get used to the length of stem – at first it felt way too stretched, now it feels just right/a little short. Glad I didn’t swap it!

Same with hoods/drops. At first, didn’t feel safe on the hoods as I couldn’t reach the brakes in the way I wanted, so I was always in the drops – took a while to get comfortable with the new grip positions.

Not with the shoes you mention, but I used to do the same with Specialized Buzzsaw’s. Umma Gumma soles worked great on V12’s (admittedly I had to fit TerrorPins so they could get into the lugs on the tread) and had a cleat for Times. I occasionally felt the cleat on the pedal body, but under ‘normal’ use were fine.

Great set-up, one pair of shoes to rule them all. Never managed to find a replacement when they wore out. *Goes off looking for Hellcats*

I’m currently running some 40wt motor oil in the legs (and air chamber) of my Menjas – seems to be working so far, but it’s only been in a fortnight…
(Also, the video here is a good instruction for the minor service.)

You can get hot air blowers that you stick the nozzle of into the pile of coals, it heats the coals and they self-ignite. Works a treat on the old man’s open fire – not sure how well it’d work in a stove.

Today. Ok, so it’s not on, or rather, in, this bridge, because it was quite dark inside

    See?
