Vicky I made that same point in my response to the consultation doc, told em to leave it alone but continue to restrict motor traffic.
Mods, can we make this thread sticky again at least until the consultation is over?

Shameless bump. We gotta respond to the consultation (see James’s post)

Wot ‘e sez assuming you haven’t messed up the cutting of cable outers like I did once, took me ages to work out that’s what I’d done

Varies depending on how much work they have at the time. Had a reverb back within a week but in May they took 4 weeks to look at a Pike then replaced it immediately

Running a b+b is bloody hard work with antisocial hours and keeps you fully occupied in the holiday season according to my mate’s sis and her partner who have one in Scotland

Tandem is a good suggestion but we are both opinionated control freaks so it would only lead to war. Also she has a gorgeous titanium audax bike with campag kit so wants me to get something she can sneer at. All other suggestions go into the hat to be researched. Love the look of the tripster but she’d kill me if I got a ti bike.

Just back from a week in the western Beacons, took my bike but didn’t ride it because none of the bridleways were worth it, think indistinct boggy moorland slogs. One or two decent routes in the east, gap road and around Talybont res, and also an ok loop heading north out of Crickhowell. Snowdonia beats all of this with one of the best routes ever, Rangers path. Rhyd Dhu also excellent. Good loop north out of Capel Curing round via Betwys Coed and heard recently that Drum Hill is worth a bash. So Snowdonia I’d say

I too have struggled for other routes in the area but yesterday had an interesting suggestion for Drum Hill. Look in the Snowden in simple terms thread for details

I reckon you’re being v optimistic hoping for a pair of £30 shoes to match 5tens. I too rate the Adidas cross trails, price compares to 5tens

Scuse my ignorance but what is a TUE?

Some good s/h options available, and the more I look the more choice there is. Looks like I have to decide where to skirt the edge between touring/gravel/road. Off the top of my head I reckon I need a road bike that will do some touring if necessary and gravel with a tyre swop, maybe like a Spesh Diverge. Others that roll along the same line?

That’s great Carlos, got half a plan with a mate to ride Snowdon after the ban and that route will deffo go into the mix, we’re always looking for other stuff to do while we are out that way so ta muchly

Cheers chaps, that Trips ter looks lovely but outside my price range (about a grand). Like the look of the Sequoia, and a steel frame has some appeal to an oldie like me. Any other suggestions?

Definitely sounds like bushings worn, a professional job to sort cos it needs specialist tools to remove and fit new bushings. Like any moving part this is normal wear and tear that needs periodic replacement

Mountain biking is a kind of low level self harm in lots of ways, not just brambles. I too carry secateurs and a pruning saw at this time of year

Fabsil type stuff is a good general sealant but if it’s the seams I’d reproof with a seam sealant. You can get them in a glue stick format which is quite easy to run over the seams

Cheers chaps, some useful comments. Just spoken to lbs who will contact Jungle to try and work out why one particular bearing is seizing. Anyone else with similar experience?

We got one earlier this year and are now very pleased with it. Took a few weeks to lose the chemical smell from the fireproof stuff they spray it with though

Yes, I think you will find that a bit old school compared to Ladybower. Climbs are quite steep so depends how fit you are if thinking of extending

What tune is it humming? May be a sign it’s bored and you need to go faster?

Yep, since I got them I prefer them to my 5-10s, good grippy sole with a bit of shape and feel, good for hike – a – bike too. Sizing for me was spot on (size 10)

I was in a similar situation a few years ago and I feel for you. I’ve always been inclined to negativity and coping long term with a demanding pressured job gradually dragged me to a place I never want to be again. I agree that talking, medication etc will help but I reckon you need to address the work issue to sort out the fundamental problem. This will be difficult, especially if you’ve spent years telling yourself you can cope and taking g your sense of self worth from your work, but once you can let go you will see there are many ways to live your life and it’s too short to be stuck in one that doesn’t suit you. All the best

In my experience shimano seals deteriorate over time, me and mates have numerous instances of said problem. Great brakes but probably best to think of them as disposable

Does sound like over training to me, I was in this situation a few years ago and it sorted itself when I backed off, stopped looking at the numbers and returned to prioritising fun. Then again I know nothing according to Mrs mb

When I gave my son a bike he fou d the steerer too short and just placed a length of tube on top, clamped it up and rode it for about a year without any problems s. His brother teased him about “groundbreaking split steerer technology” and he used to treat the bike way beyond it’s intended use (sc superlight) without any issues

Dukes Road is a bridleway that becomes a footpath once it crosses Derwent Edge because that is the county boundary. Stupid but true

    mildbore
    Full Member

Bit of a twilight zone for a circular route eh? Langsett to Dukes Rd is a pain, road that’s all up or down, and the climb up to Back tor is a boggy mess in places. From there, head south on Derwent Edge to either Whinstone Lee Tor or the footpath that crosses the edge about half a kilometre before wlt. You could head straight over the Derwent Edge track at Back tor down the footpath but it’s a bit boring after the first 100m whereas both the alternatives I mention are great tracks.
Personally I wouldn’t bother with any of this, I would accept the bonus of doing Cut Gate as an out and back (both ways are fantastic) and add on a loop of Derwent moor and Lockerbrook at the beginning and end

Would quite like to watch the road race but as usual when BBC cover it it’s impossible to get a definitive schedule so would have to stay up all night to wade through a load of frustrating waffle. If only they would say it’ll be on beeb 1 at whatever time, I could record it and watch when it suits me

Is the New Inn at Appletreewick still doing b&b for bikes? I know it’s not John Pitchers any more but we found it a great base for road and/or mtb trips with secure storage, workshop, route advice etc

Ok well think rocks, open techie descents but nothing mental.
One of the beauties of the Dark Peak is that the trails kindly organise themselves into loops, each one taking about an hour, so it’s easy to adjust rides to how you feel on the day.
If you want to email me at grumpytechnophobe@gmail.com at the weekend I should have some idea of whether, when and where I’m up for riding. May bring a mate along

I may be up for one of these days if my bad back improves. I know most trails around, what sort of riding are you up for?

Pop into the Dales Mountain Bike Centre at Reeth and ask, they have various maps that cover both sides of the dale plus the benefit of local knowledge, they will tailor recommendations to your requirements

Yeah I had a Volt and tore one of the waist pockets on a bramble…got a Skyline now and the material is much more durable though not as robust/heavy as my old Mule. Had it over 6 months and it’s stood up well to my clumsy riding
