Do islabikes sell their levers separately? Best kids brakes I’ve come across

Remember Keith Bontrager’s mantra about cheap, light, strong? Plastic pedals disprove it

Been using washing up liquid on carbon, steel, aluminium for over 20 years now with no problems. Always rinse after washing though

Well nobody pulled me out when I fell in a puddle, they were too busy laughing (where were you, Onzadog?)

Kryton57, you’ve just started a difficult journey, so it’s natural you feel weird, but in my opinion (having been through stuff myself, you are taking the best route in addressing the underlying causes of your illness. It will be challenging but ultimately rewarding, just remember to keep taking the next step and eventually you will get there. Good luck

Trouble with lbs is it takes longer, and costs labour. I was going to get the sc removal tool for my bronson but this thread is making me rethink as I’ve never actually successfully removed frame bearings, even on my Superlight where I have the sc tool. Oh well, looks like the quandary continues

Survey done. It’s a great area with some fantastic trails but needs more access to avoid lots of road

Cheers for the tips, anyone tried the Bontragers? My lbs can get them at a reasonable price, which makes me a bit wary! (realise I may be after moon – on – a – stick here)

Judging from the miserable buggers I ride with (self included) it’s not surprising that there is a high correlation between cyclists and mental health

Dunno about the trails around Nice but my experience of the trails around Mont Ventoux is that there’s a big difference between the trails marked on the map and what’s on the ground. Local knowledge required!

There’s a coastguard ‘ s cottage with lovely views over the sea at Burnmouth, just above Berwick. A bit further up the coast there’s a cottage on a beach with a little secluded fishermen’s harbour, access through a sandstone tunnel, at the bottom of a cliff, no vehicle access, at a place called Cove, near Dunbar. I know it’s in Scotland not Northumberland, but it’s a gorgeous location, wild and romantic

Dunno about the rest of the kit but I’m about to replace the mostly-worn-but-not-quite-dead 9sp Ultegra groupset and Ksyrium wheels on my road bike and was wondering what to do with the old stuff. If you can source a f+f and t ‘ other bits I’m willing to donate gears, brakes, wheels cos this seems a good use of the kit

Maybe, not sure at the moment if I can, and I’ve been v sedentary over the holiday. Will let you know at the weekend. I could help with navigation and suggest 1 or 2 improvements, eg I wouldn’t climb Rushup Edge to descend Chapel Gate, much better to take the Greenlands descent from Mam Nick

Me and my mates always ride it clockwise and are always surprised at how many people are riding it the other way. Haven’t done that since the 90s when it was all about the climbs

Good on you cloudnine, you are playing a vital role in your mate’s recovery. Some excellent advice here on how you can best help. +1 on the importance of just being an ear to listen rather than offering solutions. It will take time for him to get well but just concentrate on getting him to put one foot in front of the other and he will get there

Am I the only one who remembers wading through a whole load of sh1t just to get maybe two or three tracks per series that were good? A bit like Jools now…

“Seating” refers to how the bead of the tyre hooks onto the lip of the rim, so if your tyres are on with a tube then yes they should already be seated. If you can unseat a short section, pour in sealant then pop that bit of the bead back on the rim they will probably pump up fine. Give it a go and good luck

Another 6’1″, 32 inside leg here riding an 18″ which fits fine. Depends how you ride/what you like really

Go out regardless, or even especially. Usually clears me tubes, and always makes me feel better. Unless it’s proper flu with a fever and aches, then it’s time to get out the whisky bottle

I’ve bodged a tubeless set up with a schrader rim/presta valve using a grommet before and it worked, as you say cover with rim tape and make a presta size hole, the sealant will fill any gaps. Even easier if your valve has a rubber o ring seal

Having only one good eye I thought it important to have glasses that didn’t distort and good impact protection, so got my sons to buy me some M frames 12 years ago. Since then they’ve been used several times per week for all types of riding and have been faultless. Less than a tenner per year, and despite my best efforts they’ve been impossible to lose

I too went in increments and now have spare bars and stems (711mm Easton carbon bar anyone?), so my advice would be go 50mm/740mm, spend lots of money and make yourself like it cos you’ve blown so much cash

As above, the vast majority of people I meet are friendly. It’s a few years now since I had an ‘encounter’ in the woods with an enraged dog walker. I let him rant till he ran out of steam then pointed out we were on a bridleway….

Cold and wet for my ride yesterday, a bit of a shock to find how much slower and harder winter makes things, after all I’ve only been doing it for 25 years. Not got depressed about it yet though, that comes later when the novelty wears off
