    Guinness went well, just brightening off ready for bottling now;

Whilst thinking about what to do with 50pints of the stuff, I appear to have made another 50 pints of ‘GLCC Ale’ – Ginger Lemon Chilli Chocolate’… God knows what It’ll taste like when finished, the wort is a little tingly down the throat 🙂

lol, yes, it does look a bit like a grave stone made from a kitchen worksurface..

    It’s 3.2mm balsawood with 2 x 6oz fibreglass/epoxy, should be pretty solid.

Longevity? should be a decent amount of time since it has a tough glass layup on it. The main thing with these boards is to make sure they get wet on the inside, and if they do dry them out properly and repair.

Price? I’d probably knock one out for around £600 depending on size and options etc.

    Thanks for the comments,

ref surfs like a door – that’s what I thought when I first saw a ‘mini simmons’ style surfboard – check out http://www.minisimmonssurfboards.com

The main strength comes from the glass/epoxy, the wood is basically a former for this (but does impart some strength). I decided thin wood with a thick glass job would be cheaper to make… I haven’t used it yet so hopefully I’m not wrong!

Bought a set of Fox 36s with some wear to the stanchions,

I serviced them after a couple of rides and used fully synthetic 5w30 oil instead of damper oil for the lubricating oil, not the damper oil (Ford Formula F)

Forks are much smoother and 6 weeks of uk riding and an alps trip later the stanchion wear has not got any worse.

Realworldcycling even recommend using engine oil; http://www.enduroforkseals.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/36_talas_rc2_1.pdf

Interesting, did you use a ND filter as well?

I’ve been messing around with Photomatix, I think HDR has it’s place, but would say that it shouldn’t be what the photo is about.

    Some recent HDR shots[/url]

    (A couple are totally OTT)

    Yes,

Was an awesome project at the beginning of this summer,
Would be a good winter project too as long as you have somewhere warm to work (and to allow the epoxy to go off properly)

Probably cost around £250 in materials in the end as I made mine in two halves (stainless steel joining hardware costs alot), you could do it for around £200 if you did it conventionally..

Check out my build; Fisher Prospector

I got some HRs after reading how awesome they were, but found them to lack grip and scare me a little bit.

    Then I spent a day with Jedi…

Now I think they’re very good – maybe because I’m properly loading the front and leaning the bike over etc now?

I have an Ardent on the back and find they make a great combo.

I ‘upgraded’ to acuvue trueye from moist, they are very good – I accidentally put an old moist pair in a few weeks ago and it felt like there was something in my eye (trueye I don’t even notice for 15+hrs a day)

A few weeks ago I would have agreed with you ref the doubles/pump track…

However the last couple of weekends I’ve been up there when there have been some guys who actually know what they’re doing, and they can do the doubles (on full sus FR/DH bikes).

Getting advice from them and perservering I can just about do the doubles now, and last week managed to go round the pump track 3 times with no pedalling (before being to exhausted to continue)

Going up there tonight again as I’ve got a bit addicted to the feeling when it all comes together (which isn’t most of the time I must add..)

It was comforting when I could dismiss them as rubbish, however I’m glad I found out that I was the rubbish one 🙂

They’re supposed to be better in VPP frames… and that’s what Intense recommend… although they’ve probably got some kind of agreement with them.

yeah to be honest I’ve not really experienced a fri/sat night out in Ashburton, we usually go to Exeter or Plymouth for a night out (as that’s where our friends are and we’re only here for a year or so..)

‘Avoid Ashburton and Buckfastleigh like the plague’

Having moved to Ashburton in September, I must say that it is very pleasant, good selection of shops and restaurants, although in certain places everyone seems to know each other and all appear to be called ‘darling’..

Haven’t met with the dodgy underclass yet, I think in Buckfast/Buckfastleigh it may be a problem

It’s a 15min drive up to Houndtor, 1min to the A38 (20mins to Exeter) which is useful during the snow.

Moretonhampstead and other places not serviced by a dual carriageway may well be cut off for weeks during heavy snow…

Living just outside of Exeter around Kenton/Kennford might be a good idea to lessen the commute for your OH – my GF did a PGCE in history last year and spent on average 12 hours a day, 6 days a week working her @rse off. Last think she’ll want is an hour+ of commuting on top of that.

When I was a student I lived with a chap who used to go nuts when we left dirty plates/pans out,

We did the sensible thing and branded him a kitchen Nazi, left even more plates and pans out etc etc.

After 4years (all good mates otherwise he would have left after 2 weeks!) he was much better, I like to think we’ve set him up for a more normal life.

    Spitfire MK IX, 1/9 scale
6 Channel – throttle, rudder, elevator, ailerons, retractable landing grear, flaps

Scratch built, probably taken about 100hours so far…

Probably chicken out of flying it when it’s done!

Strangely enough I had a set of Pikes go missing when the seller used TNT… they claimed they had put a ‘while you were out’ card through the door even though there was someone in all day… barstewards.

    Cheers guys,

Yep Exeter is ace, living here now, GF has a teaching job in Kingsbridge so we're going to have to move halfway..

Buckfastleigh looks good too, especially for kayaking (and mtbing of course) but again, is pretty sparse when it comes to places to rent (that fulfil our/my bike storage requirements)

Nice one James, thanks, I'll let you know when they arrive.

Dead Rats, I was thinking the same, thought he might be on holiday/ill, however it's been a month now so doesn't look good.

As you say, he seems to have sold a lot on retrobike.

I did find another e-mail address for him whilst searching his previous posts, saturdaynightbeaver or somthing like that, no response from him on that anyway.

    Rubbish.
