“If you don’t like land owners telling you what you can and can’t do on their own land go buy your own! We are lucky to have the FC. “

    Couldn’t agree more!

In an ideal world people wouldn’t post internet threads about Thrunton or log their rides on Strava. However we know that’s never going to happen. I’m a strava addict myself but its definitely part of the problem.
So failing that it shouldn’t be too much to ask to for people to respect the woods, the FC, and the trail builders by firstly not building unsanctioned trails then secondly posting videos of said trails online.

I got 1 of the superstar 34t ones when they were on sale and went 1×10 at the same time.
I’ve noticed a pretty big difference when climbing long fireroad drags. feels easier and faster. not missed the granny.
    worth it for that definitely.
The NW is also great. not dropped a chain yet even after crashes.

just gone one this week. only fitted last night and used at hamsterley today. fantastic ergonomics and great build quality.
made a big difference to my riding. didn’t move on the bars but if it did I’d probably put a rubber shim on the contact points for more grip.

Just last weekend I fitted trp hy/rds with compressionless jagwire housing activated by 105 5800’s.
These replaced bb5’s which I found wanting.
The difference is night and day. More power than I was expecting. my main motivation was the self adjustment.

Did this last year with a couple of mates. Lovely route but the weather was attrotious. We had quite a few pinchies on our crossers. It all turned a bit comical towards then end when one of us started feeling unwell and another had zero pads left. So we were walking both up the hills and down them. We came in towards the end of the pack. Hoping for a faster time this year. Tubeless now as well.

    Hi twixhunter.
I feel your pain as only in last 3 years I took a trainee Oracle DBA position coming from a problem management role.
So like you tons to learn including AIX,Solaris and now even SQL Server.
There’s always new skills to have to learn in these roles so if that’s something you enjoy or can get used to then that’s half the battle.
Top tip – have a good strategy for learning. By this I really mean remembering. You’ll do something new , move on to something else then have to do it again weeks or months later. I email myself code snippets and instructions and
Then move them into a different folder.
    Good luck

The trouble with audiobooks is they carry on regardless whilst you drift off to sleep / daydream / concentrate on something else.
Having said that they are good listening to whilst out dog walking.

Highly recommend Will Patton as a narrator. Listened to Mr Mercedes and the shining sequel whose title escapes me. Both excellent.
Also transition by Iain m banks very good.
I’m finding the gunslinger a tough listen at the moment though.

Sql express is a free download from Microsoft with no license implications. You are limited to a single processor core and 4 gb datafile. IIRC
Be a great way to learn a bit of sql.

As mentioned earlier a recorded macro to paste special values should do what you want.
Can you not do without the pivot tables layer? Replace them with array formulae. Also known as cse formulae as you have to press Ctrl shift enter to enter them. These are excellent for summarising results based on criteria

What about penshaw or beamish? They must be close to you if you’re between choppers and hammers. Some good jumps there.

    Re the kinesis wheels
One of my front spokes sheared at the nipple and
I took my back wheel in to the lbs to be trued after less than a year old with only moderate use and he said 3 or 4 of the nipples were siezed.
Bit disappointing given the cost of the wheels.

    Thanks everyone
torso – i thought that as well but took it apart last night and the reducer is the bottom cup so the bearing is 1 1/8″. I tried the new fork and this confirmed it.

sssimon/jonny – its certainly a headshok headtube so i guess its the right one.

Would this one be the same one?

In actual fact Westbrooks is only 40 miles from me and the bike came from there in the first place so I might just take it there.

Only a couple of years back moved house and needed curtains for a modest bedroom bay window. Wife was having trouble finding suitable curtains so suggested made to measure. In ignorance I agreed. After admittedly very nice curtains were fitted I asked how much.
£800 for 1 very shallow set.
I couldn’t believe it. And yes I most definitely did think I could have had a bike for that.

Still I suppose she would think 2k on a bike was just as extravagant. Not that I have spent that. Not yet anyway.

    Yep got mine yesterday.
    Good quality bit of kit.

The red is a more of a Fluoro peachy shade than a cherry red. Nice still though.

I got it to give me more confidence on more technical sections. Hopefully it’ll serve its purpose.

+1 for the 1st 15 lives of Harry August.
Unusual title, unusual premise but epic and hugely enjoyable

I did this to my boardman cx team recently not because I didn’t like the drop bar but because it needed just about a new group set and I wanted hydraulic brakes. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a hydraulic road group set and I’d have to go to 11 speed. Anyway with deore shifters and Clarks M2 it works well. Do miss the varied hand positions even though I’m using bar ends. Think my next cx or road bike is going to have to have hydraulics and di2. Rose do some decent ones. Best get saving.

My FIL has a static caravan at Craster. There’s a good circular route which goes through rock , Rennington and denwick then crosses the river aln via a ford on to alnmouth and back via the coast and castles route. I think it was in Derek Purdys Northumberland trails book.
Here’s the first part more or less with extras.
    https://www.strava.com/activities/170811301

Also Thrunton is about 90 minutes ride from there. A good half day would allow you to ride up to long crag or just round the perimeter fire roads and back.

    Wtb cross boss.
    Light and very tubeless orientated.
    Goes up a treat.

Had a potential problem with the front one in that it had a pin prick hole in sidewall but stans sealed it in an instant.

Update : for those interested I didn’t have that much succes with the happy medium. First my pop bottle compressor wouldnt seat the bead so I had to use co2 and then again with sealant in. Not sure if this affected it but it wouldn’t seal.
So after browsing the web I thought I’d order a single wtb cross boss tsc. Came today and had a quick go at setting it up. Went up like a dream. Pop bottle compressor with valve core out sat the bead. Added sealant and my track pump did the rest. Bounced it around a bit. Left it level and it’s still hard 2 hours later. Think I’ll be ordering another for the front.
    Like a boss.

I’ve got enough to give a go I guess then. I’ll be using yellow tape and a kenda happy medium. Got co2 so hopefully won’t need a compressor although there’s one at work if get desperate. The kenda is sct but I think that just means sealant won’t rot the carcass. I’ll post back the results. Probably at the weekend.

Hi been on lercandipine and doxosozin for last year. Both ace inhibitors. Overall I’ve never felt better or fitter but if I take them on the morning of a ride or trip to gym then it’s like someone’s drained all the energy out of my muscles. So much so if I take them before I ride to work I can feel them hit 30 mins into the ride. So I just take them after I get there. I’m usually ok for exercise by mid afternoon. But that side effect is worth it for the benefits.

If tunnel then probably take the old railway line now cycle route which goes from tyne dock through to boldon. From there along to nissan and then cox green to cross the wear. Or if ferry then along to haven point and along the cliff tops to roker. This ride has elements of both.

Hi. I just got some supetstar sentinel rims on their switch evo hubs. Posted here myself a few days ago for tubeless tyre advice. No replies so far.
anyhow my lbs sold me a end of line fire xc pro ust for much cheapness. It went up no bother with a track pump but is leaking from the valve stem so am in process of sorting that out. These are narrow rums though so perhaps not that relevant to your post.

Yeah. Ive got one. Dont use it that much at the moment since I bought a hilo cheap from a mate. They are often described as agricultural and for a good reason but if you dont mind it feeling and sounding slightly rough then it does the job. Aside from the price then the other plus is its completely rebuildable. Which I did just at the weekend. Even had the locking pin mechanism to bits.

I was there in the summer and one time headed off to whinlatter. Only 30 mins drive and no problems leaving site and getting back in. I also rode round the inside perimeter of the park.relaxed singletrack with a few hills. You can ride off site by riding up the steep hill next to the field archery/driving range and theres a path to a rough track which if you go up takes you to the stables. I went all the way down which takes you through a farm and eventually to cliburn moss nature reserve. Which is scenic for a cheeky ride round. Flat though.

Best version of that Hitler clip ever for those in the know anyway.
Me I’m not a refugee from there more a tourist here who hasnt left.
MTBE was the first forum I’ve joined 3 years ago and it was great to get out for rides with people around the North East. Loads of members only a few miles from me.Some of them some of them very close to the founder members. Nowadays the rides are mostly organised by text, facebook etc and the banter on the site is a bit limited. Truth be told I only have a cursory glance on there now and again and have been lurking on here for a while.
Hah I remember the Betty Swollox ban or how about the infamous Raz’s flapjack thread or Amoco rider bike build?

Probably the best thing here about STW is the chat forum, Penis beakers,Excel help, DBA questions. Why go anywhere else???

Hi all. Upgraded my boardman cx team 2014 with the new 2014 crosslights. 2nd ride on them just tonight and they’re awesome. The whole bike is noticeably lighter and the wheels spin up to speed really fast. They look great too. Probably the best upgrade you can make on a non custom specced bike.

rode it up to Hamsterley Forest and down some of the new red trails.

What are these new trails you speak of miketually?

I’ve loving my brand new boardman cx team having never ridden road or cx b4.
You have to put the effort in to get the spend up but its worth it.
Next time I can sneak a day off when the weather’s nice I’m thinking of doing a long one to Hamsters and back from Sunderland.

I’ve got a ’09 93 tid auto saloon and in answer to the question of bikes in the back then I managed two full sussers in there with the seats down. I think we took all the wheels off to avoid too much jiggling around to avoid the parcel shelf.
The car itself is quality. Its done the motorway judder 3 times now as mentioned earlier in this thread, twice to the wife and once with me. I just dropped it into sport mode for 5 mins and that seems to sort it.

    09 150 tid vector sport.
Onky had it two months but very impressed so far.
Much more economical than the diesel Picasso it replaced yet about 3 times faster in acceleration.
Its my first automatic and makes driving effortless.
Bought some genuine saab roof bars and bike carrier for it last weekend.
