    Harvey’s do a good map. Looks like quite a lot would be hike-a-bike, tracks probably not easily visible.

    Removing htmlout obviously does something as the HTML generated is now the full table with 4 rows but no content.

    Replacing the ; with : has had some effect.

    HTML generated is now:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Retrieve data from database </title>
    </head>
    <body>

    <table>
    <tr>
    <td>

    OK, I’ve removed the exit() and tried again. Still doesn’t work and the HTML generated is blank.

    Thanks for the advice on password but now too late to edit. I missed that.

    Whatever you decide to charge, two most important things:

    Make sure you are BOTH absolutely clear about the scope of what you are providing – mission creep is inevitable! If any functionality requires a plug-in allow loads of time for research – there are thousands of plug-ins, and working out which works best for you takes time. They are almost certain to ask for something outside your experience which needs researching.

    If they say they have all the content (text and images) ask them to provide it before you start building. I have had sites which I waited months for content despite assurances. By the time I got any, I’d forgotten what the site was doing.

    Best of luck.

    Have ridden the route I outlined above several times on horseback but not for about 12 years. So kcal may well be right about present state of the tracks. I doubt they are or have been much used.

    Not sure that Feshie Bridge to Laggan is possible completely off-road. Could do it using a couple of minor roads. Possibly Feshie Bridge to Drumguish through Inschriach, minor road to Ruthven Barracks, somehow round the south side of the A9 on to General Wades Road to Etteridge, cross A9 then up through Crubenbegg on to minor road following south of R. Spey to Catlodge, then A889 to Laggan.

    I use Oruxmaps. You can upload gpx files which you can follow and alerts if you go off route. It will track your route and save. Background maps I produce using Mobac and Opencyclemap.

    Scan the pages. Use on-line service such as http://www.onlineocr.net/. Will still need careful proof reading.

    Did my right one 18 months ago. Got a lump on the tendon now. Physio recommended exercises, similar ones found by Google. Didn’t seem to provide much short term relief. Gradually improved over about 9 months. Didn’t stop bike riding but walking was painful esp uphill.

    Felt good until recently when it went again.I think brought on by long walk, appeared next day. Guess it’s one of those things that never go away.

    Stay at Rhynie, about 30 miles away. Good riding at Moray Monster Trails by Fochabers, Oakwood by Elgin. Look at Moray Mountain bike club forum.

    I use Oruxmaps on my Motorola Defy. Works fine for tracking and recording routes, and can upload gpx files which can be followed. Main drawback is availability of maps, OS no longer available so I find the best now is opencyclemap. I use Mobac to create maps then upload to phone,use offline.

    We’re about a mile outside a small Scottish village, in turn 10 miles from the nearest town (and supermarket). Corner shop OK for small and emergency purchases but need to think ahead about any trip to town, plan for stocking up. Only 3 buses a day each way and don’t coordinate very well for return trips – you would have to plan on a stay of 20 mins or 3 hours in town. Car is essential, 4×4 in winter v. useful, but be aware that every trip to town will cost about £4-5 in fuel and take a min. of 1 hour so have to plan.

    I work from home but have to travel for clients. Wife is able to organise work from home 2 days out of 4. Need broadband but connection is poor.

    School buses good, collect from the house. Difficulties with kids and friends, need running around a lot. Any socialising usually involves driving somewhere.

    Upside is the view and tranquility (apart from tractors on the road).

    mrmo – if it’s any help, I have Oruxmaps running on a Samsung Galaxy Europa i5800 and it runs OK. I am looking for a Defy on Ebay at the right price but this is OK for now. I don’t attach it to the bike, just set it tracking and put in a pocket.

    Yes, got it sorted. Downloaded maps. Does seem to take a while to get a fix on satellites.

    Very interesting thread. I have downloaded Oruxmaps, now trying to get maps. I have tried to follow what clubber says above but I am not getting any maps. It says that it has downloaded tiles and files are created but nothing to view.

    What am I doing wrong?

    The wife’s horses – over £3000 vets bills in the last 6 months and one of them is still not fit to ride. And that’s without the feed bills!

    My wife and I have been fostering for about two years now. First as respite carers, now with a full time placement.

    We went to the local authority, in our case Aberdeenshire. It involved quite an extended training process leading to a panel interview before final acceptance – took about 18 months all together. Not sure how this may compare with other agencies.

    There is a scale of recommended payments to foster carers, which I think most local authorities will conform with. I have heard, anecdotally, that some charities pay higher rates but on the other hand you may be dealing with more difficult children. Not that most people are in it for the money.

    Good place for more information could be ‘The Fostering Network’ – http://www.fostering.net There is a massive demand for new carers. All the best if you decide to go for it.

    andrewh – I can use the one I have as a model. It’s still attached to the shock but should be able to take measurements.

    Alternatively I will try zippy’s suggestion.

    frazered – thanks for the link to draw-down. I had heard of this and wanted to investigate further. I am presently waiting for an IFA to provide me with a review of my options.

    I am nearly at pensionable age and am considering my options. I have a personal pension which was transferred from a company scheme many years ago and is currently worth about £100k., This would apparently produce a pension of less than £4k/yr from an annuity which I have to purchase by law.

    A quick spreadsheet showing £100k invested earning 2%/yr and £4k removed each year would last about 37 years by which time I would be 102. If I die before that there would be balance available to my estate. This wouldn’t happen with the annuity. So the annuity doesn’t look too good but I am forced by law to purchase one.

    Self-employed web designer. Currently really a paid hobby as clients almost non-existent. Basically waiting until April 2014 to get pension.

    Degree in zoology and geology, MSc in Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology. First job for copper mining company in Zambia as Rock Mechanics Engineer (3 years). Returned to UK, job in Construction industry as Engineering geologist for a contractor. Eventually estimating and tendering for geotechnical contracts. After 13 years for one company moved to a small contractor as Contracts Manager then director. Company closed and made redundant. Self employed as site contracts engineer for a couple of years, then senior geotech. engineer for another contractor. Made redundant at 51 during downturn in construction industry.

    Decided had had enough of construction industry. Decided to try web design but also worked as trail leader for long distance horse trails in Wales and Scotland. Still did a bit of freelance estimating.

    Met wife on a trail ride. Took 5 months for round the world trip and decided to move to Scotland where we could afford property with land to keep a couple of horses. Wife could only get a job as home carer and web design not really working so finances stretched. Began fostering, which wife had always wanted to do, providing small income. Wife’s work down-graded in restructuring so income falling.

    Currently struggling along, waiting for April 2014 when I get my pension which hopefully will make things more comfortable.

    Try ‘Where’s the path’ – http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm

    Let’s you compare the route on OS map and Google Earth side by side. And you can add a route and check the profile.

    soma_rich – yes the form fields are concatenated either with or without carriage returns

    poisonspider – entries will have different character lengths

    Thanks for your suggestions but it looks like I might be stumped.

    Your download speed may well be 10Mbps but upload speeds are typically much slower, probably less than 1MBps. You could try http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk to check your actual speeds.
