New Second Generation Geometron G1: Even More Adjustable

My UC has definitely improved a lot since I started iDave, I do think it’s probably more about what I’ve cut out than anything else. Gluten especially as I have noticed that if I have more than a couple of slices of bread or a mediumish pizza with a homemade base on my cheat day frequency and urgency increase dramatically
This is the first time since being diagnosed that I’ve really bothered to change my diet though as every time I’ve asked if there is any specific foods I should eat/avoid my consultant goes on that UC is a disease and diet pays no part in it and that medication or surgery are the only treatments 8O
I have found that the only legumes I can tolerate in any quantity are lentils and butterbeans and moderate amounts of kidney beans. Chickpeas and every other tinned/dried bean I’ve tried don’t really agree with me although chickpea flour is fine.
MikeGFull MemberI’ll admit to reading the thread wrong last night but I still wouldn’t take PayPal gift for anything I’m selling and I’d only take ‘normal’ PayPal for something I can send fully tracked and signed for.
Cars should be bought with cash imo.MikeGFull MemberThe only downside I’ve found is that if you fall off the wagon it’s really hard to get back on. I started in Jan, lost nearly 3 stone and have gone from tight 42″ waist jeans to 38’s almost falling down (but not quite into 36’s cos of my thighs!) I’d not felt so good in years either, loads of energy and my ulcerative colitis which has fluctuated between bad and really bad over the last 5 years seemed to have gone away. Then about 3 weeks ago a combination of my daughters birthdays, my birthday and a few other family events meant that my cheat day slipped into a cheat week and then a cheat fortnight (you can’t turn down birthday cake when it’s your kids parties)
I’ve tried to get back on it but it’s been really hard, I’ve no energy or motivation to cook and am really craving the crap sugary things, the recent nice weather hasn’t helped either, I like red wine but beer is best in the sun!MikeGFull MemberIts a scam, no one genuine would word the first email like that.
Walk away, you’ll find a genuine buyer.MikeGFull MemberI’ve got a pair of Vertical Pro 2.3’s which I got cheap from halfords last summer which have perished in the same way, due to illness and lazyness they’ve probably only covered 50 miles since fitting.
The other halfs bike which hardly gets used has got some panaracer trail things which are at least 7 years old and probably nearer 10 which are still perfect.MikeGFull MemberYep they are good I bought my last laptop from them. It’s worth having a look at their other site as well http://www.box.co.uk sometimes it is a bit cheaper.
If you are near Birmingham you can collect as well.MikeGFull MemberMrGrim – My cashback took a while as well, about 5 months I think, I had forgotten about it but a couple of emails to the company administering the scheme and they paid pretty promptly after being reminded.
MikeGFull MemberI grew up in Steyning and loved the place for biking, there are several good tracks up to the SDW and loads of varied riding just on the doorstep. If you’re happy to get a train into Brighton then it’s only a 6 or so mile ride to Shoreham station.
If I could afford to move back I’d be there in a flash.MikeGFull MemberOrange Monte Carlo?
4.3″ screen, about £100 PAYG, can be unlocked for free, lots of custom roms now being developed.
MikeGFull MemberI was diagnosed with UC about 6 years ago and had a negative test for coeliac disease as one of the many many tests and probes and picolax related procedures I went through before the docs settled on Ulcerative Colitis, tbh unless I’ve been on steroids I’ve had symptoms continuously since then and have been on immuno-suppressants for a little over a year.
I tried the idave diet in January and, as well as losing over a stone and a half, my symptoms have almost completely gone – for the 1st time in years I’m not worrying where the nearest loo is when I’m out. BUT if I have more than a couple of slices of bread on my off day I have to stay within spitting distance of the bog and get horrendous bloating and stomach pain for a couple of days.
I’ve avoided pasta so far but am planning to have some on my next off day to see if it has the same effect.edit; gram flour bread is ok, it’s not proper soft doughy white bread but it is ok. just ok.
can’t stomach ryvita though, and I’m a southern softy.
MikeGFull MemberTry here I’ve got an old Kenwood in dash player and divx’s converted from that guide play fine.
MikeGFull MemberI can bring beer to the cave if there’s room for one more.
I had the silent treatment yesterday evening because on Thursday night after getting the kids to bed I spent the rest of the evening in the kitchen washing up, cleaning and doing all the ironing, she stomped in at about 9:45 and said if I couldn’t be bothered to sit with her (probably in silence in the living room while she watches some dross on tv) then she may as well go to bed. I wouldn’t mind so much but at xmas she moaned that I never helped round the house and just sat in front of the telly all night!
After 15 years together I still have no idea how her mind works.
MikeGFull MemberI did the same a few years ago, unfortunately the doc in A&E didn’t notice the amount of rotation in the fracture so I’ve now got a lovely bump on the outside of my hand and my little finger sticks out at a jaunty angle when I clench a fist :(
It’s fine now, nearly 6 years later, but it took a couple of years to get full strength and not get a twinge of pain when gripping hard.MikeGFull MemberI’ve been making chick pea flour chapattis;
150-200g of gram flour,
splosh of veg oil or ghee,
splosh of water,
pinch of salt,
sprinkle of cumin or carraway seeds.Mix into a dough – it goes really really sticky to start with! then kneed for a few mins, split into roughly golf ball sized bits and roll out on a well floured surface – should get 6-8 from that much dough.
Cook in a hot frying pan for a bit less than a minute a side – they need to bubble up and colour but not burn, stack em up on a plate and use with curries/chilli/spag bol sauce etc.
They keep fine overnight wrapped in clingfilm and stuck in the fridge, no idea if they keep longer I always finish them by day 2.I’m going to try some onion bhajis tonight, if they work I’ll bang the recipe up later.
I stuck a tin of chickpeas into most things I cooked last week, chilli is very nice with kidney beans and chick peas and I made a really good curry with lentils and chickpeas;
chop a couple of onions really finely (I bang them in the food processor and pulse it a few times – don’t go mad or they turn to mush and never cook through) and gently fry in some oil in a deep saute pan until they start to colour (5-8mins maybe)
add some mustard and cumin seeds, curry powder and maybe a chopped chilli or two, and cook until the spices start to really smell,
add a tin or two of lentils and a can of chick peas (rinse them 1st if you don’t want to be trumping all night) and a can of chopped tomatoes
cook down for 10-15 mins, check flavour and add more curry powder/chilli powder to taste.
If it’s too hot add some creamed coconut or yoghurt (not sure how icompliant this is though)
serve with cauli rice (grate or blitz a cauli into rice sized bits, put in covered bowl in microwave and nuke on full power for 3-4 mins) and the chapattis
Nom NomMikeGFull MemberI’m in week two now (lost nearly half a stone in week one :) ) and lunches are difficult, I’ve either been having a tuna and bean salad in or taking a fairly good sized portion of chilli/curry/whatever bean filled casserole thing I’ve had for the previous nights dinner and some chick pea flour chapattis.
I could do with some more quick ideas though.MikeGFull MemberAs said above VAG have used both Sachs and LUK so the only difference buying from VAG will be the price and the colour of the box.
The different mechanics preferences will purely be down to what their supplier stocks and the warranty the give. I used to manage a motor factors and sold LUK clutches, they had a no quibble warranty if there was no labour claim involved so if a mechanic managed to muck a job up and over grease the spline or not torque a bolt up properly they could offer to replace the clutch to the customer and only be down their labour at cost.MikeGFull MemberI returned mine towards the end of November, still only showing as empty box dispatched so phoned apple last night, the guy I spoke to reckoned the backlog had been cleared so it must have been lost in the post. Said if I emailed a scan of the postage receipt he’d force a replacement…..now I can’t find the bloody reciept GRRRRR
MikeGFull MemberCan’t believe they left Leicester off their list!
I really hope you’re joking, I’ve never lived anywhere with less going for it.
MikeGFull MemberLooks like a dry one due to digestive issues here as well, although with 2 kids under 5 it was never going to be a big night anyway.
MikeGFull MemberI’d rather have a 1st gen back tbh, I’m not sure the new ones are compatable with the dock on my car stereo and from what I’ve read the new ones are almost impossible to use if you can’t see the screen.
Although I doubt I’ll get one at all, sent the old one off on the 20th(ish) of November, status still shows ’empty box dispatched’ and I can’t find the postage reciept. Think the missus might have thrown it in her pre xmas tidy up.
MikeGFull Memberif you get one head over to the modaco[/url] forums for unlocking/debranding instructions, I’m running CM7 on mine but the atomic rom is also supposed to be good. Get a cover for it as well, I picked up a ‘s-line’ cover from the bay of thieves for £3, as the plastic is a bit shiny and hard to grip.
Have fun :)MikeGFull MemberOrange monte carlo, can be unlocked for free so you can use a decent sim in it (giffgaff is good) think it’s argos who have got it for £89 +£10 top up.
MikeGFull Memberre-discovered scotch with ginger ale earlier, 1/3 of a bottle of famous grouse gone already. hic. merry xmas, off to bed now
MikeGFull Memberdisclaimer: I know very little about wine :)
I’ve used them for a couple of years since getting a £75 voucher for something or another. They’ve been very good, delivery is quick and if you’re not in they will leave it somewhere safe (and promise to replace if it gets nicked) the wine has, with only one exception (which was refunded with no quibble), been very good. I normally buy £8-£12 bottles from supermarkets and at a similar price I think the naked wines have been better. If you sign up to be an ‘angel’ you get 33% cashback to spend on your next order.
MikeGFull Member£120 for a 4.3″ screen android handset which can be unlocked for free and has several custom roms available is cheap.
You can get mobile phones for a tenner, but not android ones, which the op asked about.
MikeGFull Member+1 for the monte carlo, bit harder to unlock than the san fran was but i still managed to do it in less than half an hour. Camera is still a bit rubbish but better imo than the san fran one. If you get one buy a case for it cos the plastic is shiny and there is no grip at all. I found a ‘s-line’ one on ebay for less than £3 delivered thats excellent.
MikeGFull MemberNot read the whole thread but I was in my local co-op earlier getting lunch and they’ve just reduced Glenmorangie to £20 a bottle, thats a fantastic price for a great whisky.
MikeGFull MemberAnd does the £500 million include the savings made by not paying wages for those on strike?
MikeGFull MemberI unlocked mine yesterday :D
I can’t see any good reason to keep Orange, their data packages are appalling and god forbid if you ever have to phone them
£10 giffgaff goodybag for unlimited data and more texts and minutes than I can use (although I don’t do much phoning on my phone)
My San Francisco can go on ebay now  have you seen the prices they go for secondhand 8O in some cases you can go to Orange and buy a brand new one for less.
edit: unlocking the monte carlo is easy, took 20ish minutes and most of that was downloading the files. Find the apk for ES file explorer and copy it to your sd card before you start and you won’t need a 3g connection to restore wifi
MikeGFull MemberOn a slightly related note does anyone know of any way (preferably free and easy :)) to find duplicate photos across multiple folders ideally from exif data – I’ve been really slack with photo management, importing pics from 3 cameras (and a selection of cameraphones) through several pc’s often not deleting the card before using it again then using a different pc to download the card again. Then backing things up to a home server or external drive into different backup folders. The end result being that I’m now trying to get organised and get everything ordered on the home server but I’ve got 4 or 5 versions of some pics with different filenames.
I could import them all and visually select them but I’ve got 30+Gb of pics :(
I’ve just bought PSE9 if it helps.MikeGFull Member1) not easily
2) yes, got one and installed a custom rom within an hour of getting it, if it’s just unlocking there is an app available in the market that does it for free, it’s a bit more involved to reflash a custom rom. google Modaco for some great forums and advice.
3)yepMikeGFull MemberI’ve just bought a HP probook 4230 from box.co.uk today, 13.3 1368×768 screen, core i3 380 (not the latest but 2.5ghz) dedicated amd graphics, 3gb ram, 320gb HD. £399 but with £100 cashback from HP so will end up being £300.
So far it’s great, faster than my 3 year old desktop and looks good too.
I spent a couple of weeks looking and couldn’t find a better deal (although I wanted a 13 or 14″ screen rather than a 15.6″)
MikeGFull MemberHave a look into MythTV if you want a free and reportedly good HTPC – it is linux based and once set up should meet the WAF. I’ve dabbled with it a few times but have never stuck with it because it’s a bit fussy on hardware unless you’re capable of compiling drivers and doing commandline stuff in linux and I’ve never managed to make it look as good or work as well as media center, it will work on fairly low end hardware though (as long as it’s on the ‘works well’ lists).
Currently I’ve got a 2 or 3 year old 2.something ghz dual core pentium system running win 7 media center and it does everything well, multiple dvb-t and dvb-s tuners, blueray drive (need 3rd party software to watch films from the disk itself), HDMI out to HD plasma and plays HD mkv films perfectly. The only thing that is a bit poor is the music player but install media browser and the music browser plug in and thats sorted as well. This might not fulfil the cheap bit though.
MikeGFull MemberPosting from my phone so apologies for any typos and bad grammar.
She should be requesting the reduction in hours as a reasonable adjustment relating to her illness, under the equality act 2010 (the replacement to the disability discrimination act) cancer is recognised as a disability so her employer has to make adjustments for this.
The macmillan website has some usefull information.
Hope she sorts something out and the treatment goes well for her.
