well I’ve just had my order cancelled, apparently there was a problem with my payment (no idea why, credit card only used online plenty of credit) so had to go through a live chat session where I was told the order was fine and I’d receive it in 3 days then suddenly there were ‘technical difficulties’ and they’ve cancelled the order. Worried about my card I’ve phoned the bank, apparently there’s no problem or suspicious activity?

What normski said, service shouldn’t take more than half an hour and there is a chap on ebay who sells the o rings and crush washers for under a tenner, search ‘reba seal kit’ and they are the ones that look like they are selotaped to a piece of card (because they are).

Not my pics but my first proper mountain bike was a 5 speed Raleigh Maverick with caliper brakes, how I didn’t die coming down from the downs to Steyning I will never know.

Then I had a Muddyfox Courier, which was really a proper mountain bike, I could ride up the hills on this, and slow down on the way back

That was upgraded with a Cannondale SM700 alpine frame, with a seat stay mounted u brake, eventually it had a full Suntour XC-pro groupset, but was stolen just before I went to uni.

you’ve got moss on your block paving and that table could do with a clean :)

    Nice bike though.

Thanks MikeG, but I think we can rule your mother out as the cause of the problem

    you’ve not met her

Don’t know if it helps but i get these pop ups, but only when I’m in Sussex visting my mum (probably first saw them in October but it was still happening last week) and only on my phone (whether 3g or wifi), at home in Leicestershire I haven’t seen any, ever.

I’ve not used them but looking at the price and the terms of business on their website I wouldn’t be risking it – the camera will almost certainly be a grey import which could cause problems if it goes wrong and their terms seem to be in contravention of the distance selling regs regarding not refunding if the manufactures seal is broken.

TBH if you’ve got a £2500 item limit on your insurance then them offering you more than this with wheelies seems quite good – it will be costing them the same whichever way they do it but you could potentially gain a little using wheelies, depends on whether you can save more than 20% off the rrp elsewhere.

if you look at the sold ones they’ve all gone for under £20 I think this is something sellers have started to do do when they’ve run out of stock – they still show loads available but make the price ridiculous, probably some way to minimise ebay fees or something.

What Glupton said…but it depends a bit on your insurance co.

I had 5 bikes stolen before xmas, insured with M&S who use wheelies, wheelies initially valued the bikes under £6k but after querying a few of their suggestions (including an alu framed scott scale as a suitable replacement for a steel kona explosif!) and a call to m&s to clarify what my policy covered the claim was re validated at almost £8k.

Wheelies really pushed for me to have their choice of replacements or take a 20% hit for a cash settlement and were quite snotty on the phone when I said I wasn’t happy being sent £2k+ bikes I’d not ridden however with m&s if wheelies cant replace the identical bike they pay the cash settlement with no discount.

As yours were older models I’d check with your insurance company exactly what their replacement policy is, wheelies have a vested interest in you getting the bikes from them and tried telling me that I would only receive a non discounted cash settlement if they couldn’t replace the identical bike but I could so as none of my bikes were current models I would have to take the hit or let them supply me.

I ended up getting a non discounted cash settlement and will not be giving wheelies any of the money.

I’ve just got rid of my old (40 yrs+) garage in preparation for a new man cave :)

I’m in Leicestershire and there are 5 tips in the county which take cement bonded asbestos, you need to apply for a permit but they don’t require the sheets to be wrapped if they are more or less unbroken.

We damped down the panels inside and out and eased the nails out using pry bars and blocks of wood to spread the load. It took two of us half a day to do being very careful, I had been quoted around £800 for it to be professionally removed.

I’m in, lost nearly 4 stone with idiet last year but have put just over one of them back since the end of July.

Spreadsheet doesn’t look right though – has someone borked it?

edit: it’s not just me not seeing everyone then!

yes it will be living in the house (until the garage the rest of the insurance money is paying for is built anyway)

    Best: A Boardman CX team

Worst: (not really a purchase though) finding the shed empty a couple of weeks ago, 5 bikes gone :( the insurance are paying up but the boss has put in a limit of n=1

You haven’t been to your shed for 2 weeks!?

hangs head in shame…. no excuse but I been suffering with manflu and the fact that it’s 50m away at the bottom of the garden doesn’t help.

Thanks to you all for keeping an eye out. Toppers, I can bring a full spec list and possibly some photos of them all (if I can find any) to the shop at the weekend (I’ve driven past a couple of times and meant to pop in for a browse)

I can’t work out how he/she/they took all 5 without any of the neighbours seeing anything, although they tried to make it look like nothing was wrong – the padlock hasp was forced off but had been put back so from a couple of meters away it looked secure, so I wonder if they went over a few days.

Not looking forward to phoning the insurance tomorrow, anyone got any experience of claiming from M&S?

Could be an earth fault, try sticking a jump lead between the engine block and the battery negative terminal. If it starts replace the main engine to chassis earth strap.
Had similar symptoms on my campervan and mx-5, both were down to old corroded earth straps.

My collection is a little sparse at the moment, half a bottle of Balvenie Doublewood (on offer in Sainsbury’s at the weekend) and a bottle of Glenmorangie single cask which we bottled in the speakeasy the day it was announced that the company had been sold to LVMH.

I’d never manage to accumulate a collection half as good as most of the ones here, it’s always drunk too quickly :)

From your post it sounds like the land is unregistered so you need to read this practice guide.
If the seller has been occupying the land for more than 12 years then he can apply for adverse possession of it all now, I would want him to make the application before I bought the house. If he is granted possessory title to the land then after a further 12 years you can apply for absolute title. I would want him to offer an indemnity policy that would pay out if the documentary title holder ever reclaimed the land.
If he applies and doesn’t get possessory title then it is unlikely you would be able to make a claim for adverse possession for a further 12 years.

2 weeks ago, commuting home on the second ride on my new cx bike, went through a ford which was not much more than a trickle across the road. Turns out 25c gatorskins and wet concrete aren’t a good mix, cue both wheels sliding out and me slowing myself from close to 20mph using my hands and left side shoulder, elbow and hip. Bent the bars and spun the saddle round (good excuse for a couple of upgrades :D ) luckily I didn’t get more than grazes and bruises.

I’ve just stuck a Tortec velocity hybrid on my cx, it’s got a narrower top than a normal rack and looks much nicer.

My experiences agree with Yunki’s, abstain during a flare (although I do often end up drinking during a flare cos it makes me feel so crap even though I know it wont help  ) and when in remission drink what you want :) I find beer and especially lager don’t agree with me though, wine is fine as are most spirits.

Lots of crap greasy food when in a flare, as said you don’t want anything too rough passing through.

I’ve stuck 45mm SKS Chromoplastic guards on my Boardman CX, I bent the stay round the front caliper and they clear the 35mm standard tyres enough to cope with a bit of mud (I’ve only been down a couple of soft bridleways so far, not any proper mudfests!).

I’ve just bought a Boardman CX for under £750. I used a TfL code (google is your friend) to get British Cycling membership half price, you can then download a 10% voucher to print and take into store. If you can find any other on line codes use these to reserve and collect so the price paid in store is less whatever the code gave then you can use the british cycling voucher on top (I couldn’t find any valid codes and there didn’t seem to be a voucher box when I reserved the bike, maybe Halfords don’t want discount on Boardmans?) I did get the £70 off for spending £700 though)

I also used quidco with a registered debit card for another £35ish off, but that hasn’t tracked yet.

I bought one yesterday, used reserve and collect on the web* to get the £70 off for spending £700 then used a british cycling 10% voucher in store when I paid for it, so total cost was about £746. If you register your card with quidco you should get a further 4% cashback as well. If the cashback works I will have paid just over £700 for mine :) Accessories are 3 for 2 so I got a rack, lock and spd’s as well.

*I might have been lucky with this, my local store had one in stock, if there is no stock at your local store you will have to pay online and I don’t think you can use the british cycling voucher then (but you could try blagging student discount, apparently nus(month)(year) gives 10% online so try NUSAUG12 assuming you do it tomorrow.

I’m picking up a Boardman cx from Halfords on payday, a smidge over £820 (£899 – 10% voucher from british cycling, cost £12 to join for the year with a TfL discount code), 50/39 chainset so other than a small weight penalty I’m hoping it shouldn’t be that different to a road bike if I change the tyres for 25 or 28c

Check the condition of the primer bulb and fuel hoses. My mum has got a ryobi which must be 25 years old now, it used to be an absolute pig to start, sometimes it would take 20+ pulls on the starter. She had it ‘repaired’ at the local lawnmower repair place a couple of times but it never made a huge difference.
I had a look at it in the spring and realised that the bulb and fuel hoses were perished and letting in a bit of air, as a result it was taking 30+ pumps to get fuel without air bubbles into the carb.
Fitted a new bulb and hose and it now starts on the second or third pull after half a dozen pumps.

if you’ve got some torx or spline bits you can normally hammer the next size up in and get the bolt loose. Worked for me when I rounded off 3 of the 6 bolts holding the driveshafts on my campervan :)

take a road bike not a mountain bike, I’ve never lived anywhere with less bridleways, there aren’t many cheeky trails either.
SE bit is probably the best but really it is all a bit of a s***hole.

I’ve just got one of the ring vega ones linked above, it’s excellent. It gave enough light in a 4x3m trailer tent awning to read a magazine on low and it was on for about 2 hours each night on one set of batteries and it still seems as bright as when the batteries went in.
The only downside is it casts a shadow directly above and below it but unless you are sitting directly below it you wont notice.

alanl – who did you use? I’ve got to get rid of a shell but because it’s got no wheels/suspension on it I haven’t found anyone who will pay me for it or even lift it for free.

Just got back from (most of) a week in the New Forest, left Thursday evening after returning to the site to find most of it under 6″ of water and our trailer tent awning trying to fly 8O.
At least the wind meant that the canvas was dry by the time we’d packed up
