Depends what sort of photography you do, I wouldn’t be without my 50mm f1.4 and I’m considering the 60mm EF-s macro or maybe the 28mm f1.8 next.

Had this as well last week, last year my renewal quote was lower than the previous years policy and £20 cheaper than anything else on the comparison sites. This year the renewal quote was more than doubled (up to £700 from just under £300) the letter had the cheek to say that they were saving me £800ish as well , and reading the small print my excess had jumped from £150 to £600 and they’d taken away the driving other cars cover.
Comparison sites came in at £300-£350 for comparable cover to last years and the current insurer were quoting £400 for a new policy.
When I phoned to tell them not to auto renew they asked why not, when I said I’d found cheaper insurance they offered to match the cheapest quote on the spot. The chap in renewals got quite annoyed when I said I expected to get a competitive quote on renewal and I wouldn’t renew with them even if they did the policy for a tenner.

BTW ended up going with directline, cheaper than the best on the comparison sites and with most of the ‘optional’ extras included.

+2 for the Tobi, we’ve got 2 and they are very good. The only downsides I can find are that they need a very long seatbelt – getting them in the back of our campervan is a bit of a hassle as the belts really need to be an inch longer and they won’t go in the back of grandma’s Perodua something (good job too really as it’s an awful car!) and I haven’t found a way to remove the straps so they can be washed when puked on

When I was about 17, so in 1990 or so, having just got to Chanctonbury Ring I was lying next to the bike having a breather when two rather buxom, topless horse riders rode past 8O :D

Lagging doesn’t work  spent a lovely couple of hours up a ladder in -8 temps a couple of weekends ago defrosting and lagging ours, which sounds like it was installed by the same idiot as did yours, I used the really thick walled black lagging but woke up yesterday morning and the boiler had tripped out.
I can now empty the airing cupboard, take the cover off the boiler, wedge a bucket under the boiler, remove the drain hose and reservoir, empty and refit within 10mins though :)
As soon as it’s warm enough I’ll have ours re routed inside.

Lovely bit of spam for breakfast….

Guessing you’re insurance is sorted now or you didn’t get a T5, for what it’s worth I insure my 1983 Caravelle, lowered, alloys, multivan interior with Glynwoods for less than £200 a year, in fact they are cheaper than the Post Office are charging for my Octavia.
Rumor has it that although Flux are very cheap there service is rubbish if you actually need to make a claim.

I renewed mine monday night, online about 20% cheaper than the renewal. Phoned them up to play the cancel then new business game (as I have for the last 5 years)to be told they will now match their online quote but it must be like for like, the sneaky gits have sent the renewal with £50 excess but online quote (and last years policy) was £100 excess.
Still £20 cheaper online and they have matched it :D

I can’t turn the air bag off in mine without an expensive trip to the dealer for a 5p resister to be fitted accross the plug (Octavia, the STW car of choice if anyone’s interested) But the handbook says that it’s fine to put forward facing seats in as long as the seat is all the way back so it’s out of range of the airbag.

he's apparently going horse riding the day after the procedure!

No he's not.

Oh no he's not!

He may think he is, but he's not.

Don't see why not, I had a colonoscopy a month ago and other than feeling a bit spaced out from the sedative was fine the next day. I didn't get to experience the joys of the agent though, got given phospo something for the bowel prep, I commented on this to the nurse and she said the stuff I was given was cheaper but not as effective 8O as the agent, she was aware of the thread as well

Do you have to have buildings and contents together, or are they refusing to cover contents due to flood risk as well?

I've got a T3 with a proper westfalia rock and roll bed, two 3 point belts and a lap belt in the middle, kids go in the back with the 3 point belts and mrs MikeG sits in the back with them playing until they fall asleep, then she can escape to the front.
If you can afford it I'd go for a proper conversion rather than a homemade one have a look on the T4 section of the brickyard for as much advise as you need.

I've had a bosch 'green' 24v cordless drill for about 10 years, it's had a very hard life and is still going strong (batteries are probably about dead though, only hold a charge for half the time they used to) it has drilled 20mm holes through double skin brick walls, mixed plaster and been used for loads of woodwork.

On amazon here

Only twice with the metal claw, you're lucky, I had 'routine' biopsy's taken every 5 cm from the start to end of my colon 8O
Hearing the doc saying open, close then watching the nurse yank the claw back like she's starting a lawnmower isn't something I want to do again in a hurry.

I've just got home from having a colonoscopy, sat here farting like hell :D When the nurse was giving the tube a quick rinse afterwards I'm sure I heard her say that will be clean enough for MrNutt 8O

Just kidding (not about having had a colonoscopy unfortunately) hope it goes well.

Wheres the ecu fitted? A few years ago I ran a motor factors and spent a few hours trying to source a replacement ecu for someone with a scooby powered T3, he'd been through a big puddle as well and thought he'd hydrauliced the engine – turned out the ecu's aren't sealed at all and it completely fried when drenched.
Even if it is knackered you should be able to pick up a complete donor car for a few hundred quid, only takes a couple of hours to drop and replace the engine in a bay, then sell whats left of the donor as spares on ebay, assuming you've got a bit of space and some mechanical ability

last time ours did this it was because we'd used those liquitab things and the 'plastic' bits hadn't dissolved properly, a good poke with some brake outer and a few kettles of boiling water seems to have sorted it now.
They did the same thing to the dishwasher as well but caused the pump to burn out, the engineer who changed it said not to use them as they were rubbish, ironic really as they were the ones supplied with the dishwasher.

Check directline are ok with the van being a 'surf bus' with cooker and bed, I tried them for a quote on a homebuilt camper about 5 years ago and they said they would only class it as a panel van and I wasn't covered for fire if it was started by the cooker. They may have changed their policies now though.

NOT adrian flux, there are plenty of threads on most car forums which will explain why :)

I use Glynwood's for my T3, there are a couple of guys who work there who really know thier VW's and they are good with modified vans.

interference on the digital ones can be a problem, if the microwave (or the neighbours) is on then all you get is a screaming from the speaker and the wireless network makes it glitch as well, I spent a while changing frequencies on the router only for a neighbour to get one which causes interference.
The reciever now sits semi enclosed by tinfoil to shield it from next door.

We just want it so that we can see what the noise is before going in to check. JnrI #1 crashes around a lot and sometimes is just playing before going to sleep. Other times he's been "stuck" and needed re-arranging. Without the video we sometimes go in and disturb him rather than just leaving him to it. Our house has thick walls and we can't hear JnrI when he is upstairs and we are downstairs hence why we have a listener.

exactly. we bought a cheap one from aldi – about £40 – and it does help see whether it's worth going in or not. Our eldest sleepwalks and stands up in the bed without making a sound before falling out, if she wakes up out of bed she can get really upset so being able to see her start lets us get upstairs and guide her back to bed with out waking the youngest up.

I rode a lot until 2003 when I changed jobs, 6 day 60+ hour weeks left me knackered and with no time, then changed jobs again 4 years ago, got 6 months riding in then I knackered my knee, got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and had two kids. Probably ridden less than 10miles in the last 3 years.

Another plus is that as they are treated as a non cash benefit if you are a woman and go on maternity leave you still get them even if you're only on SMP. This is also the case if you are on long term sick and are being paid SSP.

I've been on prednisolone since xmas to try and get ulcerative colitis under control, I'm now almost at the end of the course and am feeling ok but for a few months was proper loopy, I'm normally really laid back but any dose higher than about 20mg and the red mist just comes on with no warning, I also put on nearly 3 stone – unfortunately it's definately not muscle :(

I like gorilla glue, so far it's stuck everything I've tried it on really well. The only disadvantage against jb weld etc is that the two pieces have to be a good close fit it does expand when it cures but doesn't seem to be anything like as strong where theres a big gap.

However, reverting back to the OP I still fail to see why an employer should not take an individuals health into account as part of a recruitment process.

How would you do this? Make all potential employees take a full medical before interview? There are lots of 'normal' sized people where I work who take lots of time off with illness. You cannot judge fitness or motivation to do a job based on appearances.

Obesity is just one indicator amongst many that a person may have ongoing health issues. So why should they not take it into consideration as a factor in a reasoned decision making process? That is not to say the sole factor, just one of many.

I imagine that many of these ongoing health issues obese people have would likely be covered by the DDA, or that in some cases the obesity is a result of a condition covered by the DDA, if that is the case then an employer would be breaking the law if they used that as a factor in the decision making process.

I'd take the local one everytime, we are lucky that my work has a subsidised one which is only a couple of miles from the office but 10 miles from home. As said above having to spend 20mins each way in the car every day isn't good, there have been a few occasions when our eldest has been car sick (always within half a mile of the nursery) and they both often fall asleep on the way home. I'd also rather have the play areas seperated by age, under 2's and over 2's as 3 year olds run round at full speed and never seem to look where they are going.

I've been using cheap golfing gloves from chav sports, about a fiver for a pair made of very thin hard wearing vinyl and very close fitting with no nasty seams on the finger tips. Since getting them last summer I've completely rebuilt my campervan, including an engine swap serviced the other cars and the bikes and they are still fine. I have been putting a pair of latex ones on top for the really greasy jobs.
They are better than the £20 pairs of mechanics gloves I used to use.

There is a road over the south downs between Steyning and Worthing that when I was 18-19 I used to be able to drive with no lights at about 50mph. I'd never try it on a road I didn't know really well though.

I've had T25's for almost 10 years now, £15k will get you just about the best thats out there (take a look at eastfalia.com ) but now we've got 2 kids the van is getting used as a dayvan much more than for camping in, they are just too small even with a huge drive away awning and having to pack most of it away to drive to the shops is a real hassle with young kids.
If you really want it for holidays I'd be looking at coachbuilts (ie proper motorhomes). We are probably going to get a caravan 8O and tow it with the camper, should give the best of both worlds with a decent sized and kitted out base for sleeping and eating in and the convienience of a van for day trips out.
