“A lot” is probably pushing it, to be fair. The gap between 650b and 29in is 50% bigger than the one between 26in and 650b, though 😉

My current feeling is that the difference between 26 and 29 is big enough to make a difference but not really big enough to need splitting.

Those aren’t two companies, they’re the same one.

the fact you can fit it into existing 26 FS designs with little or no redesign required tells you how is a huge selling pointless it is

    FTFY etc 😉

650B keeps getting pitched as halfway between 26 and 29, but it really isn’t — it’s a lot closer to 26 than 29, with equivalent tyres.

if your child is sick they are not allowed back to school for 48 hours

I think our school has this, but I’ve always taken “sick” to mean (and it would appear so do they) “actual vomiting”, which is fair enough 😉

School also seems to be pragmatic about the termtime thing as long as you don’t take the pee. Personally I see no harm in losing a week at the end of the summer term, they really, really don’t do much that week 🙂

A boring point, but as a limited company you need to have your registered address on your website.

It has been calculated that if every TV / video / digibox in the UK was turned off rather than left on standby the output of one nuclear power plant would be saved

I reckon Sizewell B could manage 40 modern tellies on standby per UK household. Doesn’t add anything to the debate, but I was bored 🙂

    Tick spam ?

You may have been joking, but tickalert.org appears to say lots about TBE (for which a vaccine exists) and very little about Lyme’s (for which no vaccine exists). tickalert.org is owned by Baxter Healthcare, a pharmaceutical company that makes TBE vaccine.

funny, just was talking to my dad this morning about Lyme’s disease, a tick-borne disease in northeastern US. was wondering if there is something similar in Europe.

    Yes, it’s called Lyme’s disease…

    [edit — damn, too slow]

Check every ride and get ’em out when they’re tiny.

If you look at motor racing results it will always tell you the make of car or bike.

That’s because in motor racing it sometimes matters.

There’s definitely conflict between the National Park/Forestry Commission and the verderers/NFA.

they do have the power to seize your bicycle as wella s a fine for riding off-piste

Source? (Not doubting you, but would be interested to see first-hand info — AIUI no-one other than the police has any power to do anything at all).

Pairs Female: Cotic/AQR — at least one was on a Cotic Soda.

Pairs Male: Clive Mitchell Cycles — one 26in HT, one 26in FS (I think)

    Pairs Mixed: Certini — 29er HT & ??

Pairs Old Gits & Singlespeed (combined): Clayton Cars — Giant Anthem 26 & ??

    Bored now 🙂

yes i’m aware of that & the added height of seat tube for my longs legs does have an effect.

Those are effective top tube measurements. Seat tube is irrelevant. If an L Soul isn’t big enough, I’d be surprised if a 20.5 Latitude is — it’s simply not that much bigger a bike.

I’ll just buy another great steel hardtail like a Genesis Latitude.

The biggest one of those has a top tube 5mm longer than an L Soul. Is that enough biggerer for you?

I don’t fully understand on what legal basis they can obtain your name and address, which must be needed to fine you?

That would indeed be the problem they would face 🙂

I’ve tried vaseline above the eyebrows when running, it worked. Much like that gutter thing except cheap and not gimpy looking (on account of being invisible).

you can be fined for riding off route; up to £500 according to the map.

    AFAIK this has never happened.

Motorhomes you need to shut the whole bloody thing down, batten down the hatches before you can drive it anywhere. Only really practical if you’ve driven or towed a car along with you on holiday as well.

Apparently there are these things called “bicycles” that you can hang on the back that are quite handy for popping out places 😉

Doesn’t the combination of head angle and fork offset produce the rake?

    No, that’s trail.

    Mike_D

“Standard” 29er offset is 46mm. 51mm is Fisher G2 geometry, didn’t know they were available aftermarket.

You’re coming back to the same point every 40 minutes or so. Why would you use a Camelbak!?

To what point did I return? This is only the third time I’ve posted in this thread, I’m not sure that that’s enough to get repetitive. I speculate that you’re getting posters and posts mixed up.

    Also, JOKE.

I’m trying to decide whether to enter the Camelbak or Bottle category. Probably going for the 30-35psi tyre pressure category, though.

surely the idea of racing singlespeed is to race against other singlespeeders?

There are as many ideas of racing singlespeed as there are ideas of racing generally.

Logically, if there’s an SS category there should also be 3×10, 3×9, 2×9, 2×10, 1×10, 1×9, 7, 8 and 14 gear categories, plus extra ones for rigid, hardtail, FS at every 10mm increment, a semislick category and age categories in one-year bands. Might as well chuck in “people wearing red jackets”, “riders called Brian” and “riders born in a month with a R in it”.

Yeah its difficult to pass but after the 3 hour and 6 hour mob leave I find its pretty clear.

Would this be the 3 and 6 hour mob who don’t start racing until 10am Sunday? 😉

I’m in a team of three, solo is incompatible with childcare arrangements and also I’ve retired. And can’t be bothered. As for rigid bikes, I embarked on the 12 solo SS a few years back on rigid, managed five and a half hours and had to swap to a bouncy fork. That was pre-surfacing though, and dry, so a proper pothole and rootfest.

Actually I think that was my best race result in any event ever 🙂

Tick the “used” box, then sort by distance (drop down at the top of the list).

It _may_ be an expensive fix. Everything on mine worked when I got it, since then both the water heater and fridge have failed on gas but were easily fixed on my driveway with some help from the internet ;). Definitely best to play safe, though.

You’ll need to do a tax return, it’s in the “Employment” section somewhere. Not a big hassle and worth it if you do lots of miles.

I’d spend the next few months researching what you want and then buy something next winter. Prices are mental in the summer. I bought mine on a wet day in January, and if I ever sell it I’ll be doing it around this time of year 😉

We had a Peugeot Partner when our eldest was born. She’s now seven and has a brother, we still have the Partner. Sliding doors + tall = win for kids in child seats. But I can’t see there’s much wrong with a Jazz — I’d always go for “not buying another car” as my favourite option 😉

There’s lots of little things to discover, like exposé. Try pointing at a word and double tapping on it with _three_ fingers…

Is that one of those “intuitive” features? 😉

Sounds like an interesting arrangement. I’d turn off absolutely everything at the consumer unit just to be sure before you start, those lights could be connected to anything. Maybe turn off next door’s too to be on the safe side 😉

You could try evaporative cooling — stand milk carton in a pan of water with a dishcloth or similar over it.
