I went down the colour laser route and have not looked back. It does great colour prints reliably and cheaply. It is a HP 2600n which means I can add it to my wireless router and print from any device to it.

I think (although I may be wrong) that inkjets can suffer if not used regularly as the nozzle can clog up. I have not had this sort of issue with the laser despite extended periods where it is not used.

I have a cheapish scanner as well as a separate device. It has a feature where you can put a document it and hit ‘copy’ on the front, it scans and prints in one.

I can weigh half a stone more at night than I do after a good Tomtit in the morning.

    7lbs worth????? Wow

That is the same weight as:

My understanding is that rear derailleurs are not that fussy between 8 and 9 speed. There might be some differences between the jockey wheels etc but not enough to make a significant difference.

My suggestion would be to try new cables first of all to try and cure the shifting problems. However, I’d be worried that on a cheap tandem frame you are causing it to flex leading to ghost shifts.

When you remove the cables you’ll be able to feel if the stiffness in the shifter is due to cable fricton or friction in the shifter itself.

Chain suck should be curable with a new chain and chainrings but watch out as you might also need a new cassette to go with the new chain.

I use a simple test: would I eat or drink this if I wasn’t riding?

Sensible eating of normal foods gives most people all the energy they need most of the time. It is generally cheaper and tastier.

Take it to your local CAB. I know of plenty of stories of the charges escalating and people wishing they had paid at the outset.

The CAB will give free and impartial advice.

My understanding is that you can claim from the council if they knew about the hole but had not repaired it. That is the beauty of ‘fill that hole’ – it is proof that they have been alerted to its presence.

I had a terrible squeal problem that I eventually identified as being caused by the canti posts being slightly longer than the brakes. Thus when the brake was bolted onto the canti post it could move backward and forward which caused the squeal.

I tried to correct this with a washer which cured the fore / aft movement but it also prevented the brake from rotating on the post which wasn’t very helpful.

I eventually worked out that an O ring over the canti bolt was just right to take up the slack but to allow the brake to work.

The key to Mulholland Drive is remembering that the scenes are not in chronological order.
It is still not easy to work out but at least it starts to make some sense.

We use one of these plugged into the aux input of a NAD amp.

    Available here

Simply drop the iPod onto it and play the music. It is not wireless but it is within your budget and it charges your pod while it plays.

I am sure your mojo will return. My only advice it don’t try and force it to come back. Whenever I have tried this I just end up getting frustrated which makes things worse.
Try to just enjoy being out on the bike and before you know it you will find that your mojo has caught up with you.

    Hi

I did solve it in the end. I unscrewed the end of the hose from the base and used a sharp knife to cut away the strain relief grommet and hose from the fitting. The bit that screws into the base is threaded on one end and has a barbed bit on the other.
Having cut the damaged hose and grommet off the barb I could then push the barb into a fresh bit of hose and secure it with a jubilee clip.
    Working fine and dandy now.

The beer in the Hawkshead brewery in Staveley is great but the atmosphere inside is not that great. I’d much prefer a pint at the Watermill at Ings.

Wouldn’t fancy going over High Street that way. In fact most of the eastern side of it is what I’d term the wrong way round although the western half (over towards Wast Water, round Borrowdale and down to Derwent Water) is the correct way.

There is a lot of hike a bike involved 🙂 But you can’t have it both ways with a loop! Equally, there are some truly stunning sections

If anyone fancies a BIG ride in the Lakes you could do worse than this.

It is probably possible to do it in under 24 hours but I wouldn’t fancy trying it at this time of year.

If it is anything like the Kona I used to own it will not have much clearance for a wide tyre at the back. I am sure I was limited to 1.9″ or something similar.

Haven’t washed my hair for about a year now. I rinse it in the shower daily but don’t use shampoo. It was itchy and a bit greasy to start with then it settles down.

I’ve always struggled to get my head round the idea of using shampoo to wash the natural oils out of hair and then replacing them with the chemical alternatives in conditioner.

My feelings on them are that they put a lot of strain on the seat post and weigh quite a bit.

Perhaps better to get a large seat pack (like this) to put your stuff in under your saddle.

I agree with all the comments relating to the journo’s poor braking technique. However, I think he has a valid point as brake / bike manufacturers won’t be able to control how users apply their brakes. Some will use them in short hard bursts that allow heat to dissipate while others will drag them. If dragging leads to fluid boil then it could easily result in accidents.

I know that you can over heat a rim brake and blow tyres off the rim etc. but I think the point he is trying to make is that disk should make the risk of an accident lower, i.e. the chances of being able to boil your fluid should be less than the chances of being able to blow a tyre of the rim.

How about making some shims out of Coke cans? I think they are about 0.2 / 0.3 mm thick so should be about right.
