cheers for the replies , looks like a trip upto the peak this week to have a look ,commute is along the canal so it does need to be quite tough as they don’t seem to be cutting down the bushes this year , end up with a good few arm scratches every trip

slim fit round the hips as just ruled that out completely as I have a pleasantly plump frame 😕

didn’t look at the balance , think it may be a trip upto the shop and ahave a proper look , same as you have had fleeces and off them which are not the best fit(but seem pretty indestructible) albeit that was a couple of yrs back

had a stupid one over the chase about 3weeks back ,hit a divot which had grassed over went straight over the bars and ended up face first in the car park over Brocton side gravel rash and bruised intercostal muscles , took till now for the rash scab to go and the swelling to go down enough to be able to raise my right arm above chest height , I’m 45 now the last time I damaged my ribs /intercostals was in my 30s and was up and about within 5 days ,broke my left ankle when I was 25 took 3mth to heal , took another fall albeit it a bit higher when I was 42 and it took 10mnths a cage drilled into my leg and 3 ops before I could weight it again and still have a bent right leg, so for me 40 was the turning point when minors turned to majors and I need to start being slightly sensible(meh responsibilities ,mortgage ,work, kids ,wife)

no the garmin was new when I bought it ,just one of those magical things that happen with technology, I’m putting it down to that ,at least I was a racing snake for a while , showed it to the wife and told her there was no way I could be that fat if my times were that quick , she just told me to look in the mirror

you can get the left hand bits from 1mm up , if your axle is 4mm id start with 1mm to get a pilot dead center then if it dont budge put a 3mm through it use the slowest setting on your drill so the bit dont snag and snap , try and get a decent bit though either cobalt or with a cobalt coating it makes life much easier

if you have a good tool shop near by something like cromwells, Irwin make left hand drill bits along with the extractor but you normally find as you start to drill in reverse when the drill starts to cut it starts to pull out the broken stud so theres normally no need to use the extractor never had a problem using them on bolts which have been torqued a lot higher and thread locked

if you know the measurement you can get rubber cotton reel mounts from any car car spares shop ,just cut the threaded ends off and they should work fine

    hi wobbliscot ,
if you want to find out some off piste theres a old evans route on just go ride which serves as a basemap , I just downloaded that and the amount of great trails you see shooting off to the sides of it is pretty great , only just started exploring over that side of the chase and already the routes start stacking up by just using the evans ride it route as a guide , some of it was quite boggy a few weeks back but it seems to have mainly firmed up nicely now, I’m normally over there weekday mornings (benefits of 4on4off at work )email is in profile if you want to meet up .
ps I’m no racing man prefer a good steady ride

@burko 73 cheers mate , think I had already made my mind up about getting one , just needed a opinion on bone rattle , don’t intend on using it on too many rocky trails , not too fussed about trailbuzz through the forks and hoping the extra squish in the tyres takes a bit out from the pedals

hi burko, is the longitude much of a bone shaker looking at getting one but unsure how my ankles (got a few pins and screws) will cope ,just want it to start a bit of bike packing and canal path commutes, cheers stuart

my lads just hit 5ft hes now on a giant stance small frame 27.5 wheels, I was worried about the wheel size for him but he rolls over everything much easier than he did on his old ridgeback mx24 , it seems to have given him more confidence , we don’t do massive rides just follow the dog and a bit of off piste around Cannock , the weight dosent seem to have made too much difference to him

i use decathlons chain whip and cassete tools brand x headset press and bb press ,all reasonably priced and strong enough for home mechanic , for everything else like t keys I use snap on or mac as I had to buy them for work anyway not cheap and way over the top for whats needed at home , my apprentice has a set of TENG tools and to be fair they are as strong as snap on and also have a lifetime warranty but are 1/3rd of the price of bike specific brands like park and unior
