Woo i thought the winning time would have been over 8.30 because of the wet. Who were the top three does anyone know?

How did the course compare to the last two years? Apart from the wetness..

Yeah there were some nice lassies in the womens high jump, the girl from russia I think, dark hair.

And i lol’d at the hair on the Irish guy :-) .

Bolt today was amazing in the 200m final, glad he got that after messing up the 100.

Wouldn’t want to mess with some of the shot-put and javellin throwers though, even the women 8O

Pretty sweet looking section at about 2.30 in the top vid. Loads of nice looking stuff in the bottom vid. I’m from Ireland and never even ridden these trails so good effort making it over.
I’m guessing that was a days riding after the race?

I’ve just skimmed through this but I like using the MHP Dark Matter after a tough training session. It helps a lot I think, combined with a slow release protein with milk before bed.

Yep, been there done that. Snapped mine skiing one year about mid feb, didn’t get riding again properly off road until the first weekend of may (dyfi enduro) which was my 2nd time on the mtb after breaking it. :-)

Really amazing part of the world, especially Three Cliffs bay. Me and a few mates have an annual camping trip there, can’t remember the name of the campsite, its about 30 mins from Swansea in Port Eynon.

    Go!

For the record, I have 24 hrs exposure lap as being 10.9 miles and 1270 ft of climbing.

It’s the only solo only 12 event in the UK, is thats what you mean. Theres another solo only 24 in the states and in OZ, but thats about it I think.

Of course theres solo 12 and 24 riding together for the first 12 hours. Defenately worth considering.

You want your motorhome to be about 5 miles from the course – otherwise you’ll be tempted to use it

Ive got all that stored on my TrainingPeaks account, can’t remember it off hand. I’ll have a look tomorrow.

Also i agree about the Relentless 24 from munrobiker, cracking event/course.

Yeah it takes in one or two parts the kielder did, that one section of singletrack that finishes crosses the road down the bottom and turns right. And you pass that big carved out seven in the wood, same as kielder.
Not too technical i think, just enough to keep you on your toes and not get bored. You should know it well by the time it gets dark anyway :-) .

How would i describe the course at Newcastleton? Really really fun! :D

The other 24’s I’ve done are Relentless, Mayhem and 24/12. It’s probably the most fun course I’ve ever done, never got tired of it. The course at Relentless was really fun as well but i was having trouble holding on to the bars properly towards the end with hand/wrist pain, very rocky and rough in places. Amazing long downhills at Relentless though.

Newcastleton is good for the amount of singletrack I think, never too narrow to pass for very long though, lots of wider passing places. Its fun swooping singletrack and doesn’t require much concentration in most places, a real roller coaster in some parts. There’s about 1.5 miles of grass for the start and end of each lap, which meant this year a muddy climb in the forest and a fast long sketchy descent going down some grass at the end.
I have a mate that didn’t like it much, but she prefers very technical courses.

I have the Gore Oxygen. It’s ok but with stuff in your back jersey pockets it feels very tight. Hard to get the size right with it.

Good to hear the positive feed-back, didn’t get to it, sounds great though. I wasn’t sure if an event like this would get pulled off properly in Ireland!

I’ve done four 24 solo’s, tried all the big ones except SITS, I can definately say the most fun 24 for a solo rider is 24 Hours OF Exposure in Scotland. It’s nice because you know everyone else is solo, so it gives you a better idea of how you’re doing. A real “we’re all in the together” type feel about it. Also lots of team riders blasting past you all through the night in bigger events can test your nerve and patience at times, especially the few rude ones.

Preparation wise, ride a lot (obviously), looking at improving your weaknesses, whatever they might be. To do well at a 24 you need to work on speed as well as endurance so I do intervals, but If you’re just aiming to finish, just ride whenever you can, in all weather. A turbo trainer helps when you can’t go out on the road.

Get used to your bike setup and have it dialled in just right, sort out some nutrition plan the works for you and use it during training on some long rides.

    Good luck.

The only other query I have is about the start & event village itself. I guess it’ll be pretty manic with cars parked everywhere? In fact, is there enough space for everyone to park?! What about facilities – are there adequate toilets for everyone at the start, for the mad pre-event ‘comfort break’? And showers, am i right in thinking that there are no post-ride facilities on that front?

You seem pretty prepared, shouldn’t have any problems finsihing it. The start and finish is based around Kielder castle, theres a nice cafe/restaurant and toilets. A cheese tostie after the event goes down a treat!

Can’t remember about showers, I was staying in a B&B so just showered there. Baby wipes are good for a quick clean i think.

Lots or parking space around there.

Try the Maxx Exposure south downs way night enduro, usually on mid sept or early otc. Sounds like you’l have no problem with it. And going against the clock is always more fun, especially in the dark :-) .

Why not go with XTR again. I have Formula Oro’s, pretty fit and forget brakes and perform well. The leaver sometimes pops out in a crash, but you can pop it back in no problem.

Changing shorts and saddle both at the same time is never a good idea.
My guess would be that the saddle is the problem. And use lots of chamois cream.
