Swansea and the surrounding area is pretty bad for road cycling, apart from gower.

Just like a strong red bull i think. Wouldn’t go near it for training or performance purposes.

About nine days for me. I nearly always pay for next day delivery now after some very slow orders.

Depends how long a burn time you want I suppose! If its just for shortish blasts and not racing then I’d go for Diablo.

I forgot to mention the lakes on my list. Did an event in Penrith a few years ago (Merida series), stunning riding and scenery. Was surprised to still see bunch’s of loud drunk yobs in the town when i went out for dinner though.. didn’t expect it in a small town.

    All nice places
    Rhyl, Really??

Well i had the biggest portion of ham egg pineapple and chips I’ve ever seen! On an oversize plate.. After one of the merida marathons, so it gets my vote.

    Nice ride.

Yes road bikes are faster, and have a better position for climbing on the road, if setup properly anyway.

Only one helmet and it’s got a few cracks in it!

I’d go for maxxis re-fuse or spesh armadilo’s. I can get over a year on both of them. When i do puncture its only because the tyre is worn through to the casing so i get new ones.

Bontrager have a really nice durable tyre as well, can’t remember the name of it though.

I use mine for pyramid intervals and micro intervals. Staring at the stop-watch and counting down to the next up-change or rest interval makes the time pass fairly quickly.

Agree with this. I rarely do base miles on the turbo.

You ride to work on a mountain bike that good??? Better off getting a 100 quid hack bike and save wearing parts out on that commuting.

Whatever changes there is, i think the sub 5 was a far better name.

Must just be the people or vibe of that event. I like having a bit of chat with most other racers, unless I’m going full throttle.

For me i think it’s much easier to do a workout on a turbo, no traffic lights or junctions and you can maintain a constant pace. This also means it’s a bit more tiring than the road for me, and also time passes slower without anything whizzing by.

Mile for mile its just as effective as the road i think, a lot more efficient for planned workouts i’d say, because of no traffic or sharp turns etc.

Time is a better measurement for the turbo though. Some people say it takes away from your bike skills but as long as you ride a real bike every so often i don’t think it makes a difference. Hard to say how many real miles compare to turbo miles, if you have a long straight road with no interruptions then they’re probably similar, but then you have the wind and road surface to consider.

do the people of the republic of Ireland see Ulster as another country – I really don’t know

I see it as part of Great Britain, which it is :-) .

I once went to the loo in the pub and my cheesy wotsits had gone by the time I got back.

I think that counts. All my mates said no-one had touched them. Must’ve been a ghost or something.

Not personally.. Used to watch that most haunted programme though, so weird stuff happened on that the odd time.

I really like racing in the rain, you don’t overheat and lots of different lines open up in the mud. Also i fee like i can ride fire-roads faster when they have a slick layer of wetness on them.

one day I’m going to properly lose it BIG TIME with dickheads who overtake me in cars and then immediately turn left.

Yep bloody annoying.. take a pull on joint before you head out if needs be. Just chill.

Are you cousins with the dude that started the horse rant thread???????

Seriously whats wrong with people today……….

You know theres a large chance these “roadies” as you call them are mountain bikers doing some road training. As a cyclist you should give them more respect anyway.. a biker moaning about other bikers?? Come on..

It happens to me lots of times where cars pass me out only a couple of hundred yards from a red light or junction where we’re both going to be stopping anyway… whats the point in passing out there, dangerous and annoying.. just be patient ffs.

    Turbo trainer all the way..

Other things i use are a balance ball for core work and gym mat for push ups etc. I’d like TRX gym band but theyre expensive.

Get a life or stick to the trail centres!

    Couldn’t agree more.

Sounds like you’re just having a bad day.

Also i have the feeling you might be a city slicker or yuppie that hates everything linked to the country.

It can be very good exercise too btw…

It depends what your attitude is towards training as to whether they’re worth it or not for you.

And for the love of God, use it mainly for intervals unless you want to go insane. Long in-zone rides on the turbo are mind numbing.

I use mine a lot in the winter, probably more than the road.

My local spot used to be Gower, haven’t been there for a while since i left uni in wales. There was loads of different waves there..

Best wave I’ve been on is “inside left” on the reefs outside Bundoran out west of Ireland. When your riding it when the tides out you can see the sea-weed coming up the the water and its only a few inches deep under your board!

I think Level 1 are starting to take over MSP for quality of their flicks, (refresh, eyetrip being their best ones).

TGR have done some really good stuff over the past few years as well.
