I have really nice sugoi ones with a windproof front.. or sugio?? I always get that mixed up. I’ve used them in -20 and i wasn’t cold, depends what conditions you run in i suppose.

Like my dad told me once – work, relationship, hobbies… pick two. Well not entirely like that, but very hard to give enough time to them all. One of them will eventually crumble.

Why – is skiing more dangerous now than it was years ago?

I always wear one when boarding but rarely when skiing unless it’s icy or going steep/off-piste. Never felt the need otherwise on ski’s.

You have to keep in mind what other numptys around you are doing. You have no control over someone taking you out from behind.

For example this week with a class of kids i was teaching, a snowboarder crashed into one of the kids in my class, she got a pretty messed up looking face including a broken jaw, my kid skiid on afterwards with no injurys. I heard that her face smashed against the kids helmet when she fell over. The kid and her were both wearing helmets, but think how worse it could have been if either of them weren’t?

if it’s a powder day and there are relatively few people on the slope then i won’t bother with a helmet

Again i’d say think about the things you have no control over. Or if you have a bad bail and end up tumbling down some rocks that may be hidden under the snow.

I use one most of the time, I think you’d be pretty dumb not to these days.

You really just need to try a few on and see which brand best suits the shape of your head. I like my RED mutiny helmet.

I’d say Pila in Italy. But you’re much better off staying down the gondola in Aosta if you want some night life :-) .

Less chance of injury if you crash on the bike, thats reason enough to go for me.

Also a slight increse in power comes with greater flexibility.

    Movement skis rock.

Yeah i like the look of movement skis, they’re really over priced here in Canada though. Most people here use Rossignol, Line, Armada and K2.

had a little scare on a black when the powder started to slide on the ice underneath as i stopped on it

Hockey stopped and the earth moved , so to speak. Not alot, just a couple of feet down the fall line

From what youi say that doesn’t really sound like avalanche conditions to me. Of course it depends what and how much snow was above you and how hard the layer was under the pow. A mini slide like that happens to me quite often though. I have a lot to learn about deep snow though!

What skis were you using on that trip btw?

Most of the times ive watched it there seems to be a balance of a few different types of guys. Theres nearly always one who gets all the lights out after the first round. Either a bit of a loser or an old creepy man.

Nice setups everyone.. especially the Volkl Kendos!!

I have a set of Line Prophet 98’s and some Coreupt park skis for teaching. I’d love a set of powder skis so planning on getting something like the K2 Obsethed in the next few weeks.

I don’t know anything about snowboards but they all look good.

Why don’t you get the knee and shinguard combined ones. Those knee pad only things seem a bit of a fashion fad to me. All the top downhillers started doing it and now everyone has jumped on board.

Yep, I’m starting to build up quite a quiver of skis this season so this will soon be my question! :-)

There hasn’t been any decent solos out in years. The White Stripes probably have the best solos out of all the recent bands I know.

Sounds like you had a bad experience there alright. Maybe she was fresh out of training. I have very odd shaped feet though and it was a total improvement for me. I bought my ski boots in italy and a boot fiting process was pretty much non existant where i got mine. I was just told to try on a few and go for which ones felt the best.. so needless to say I ended up having problems with them.
The prices there in Profeet don’t seem bad compared to here in Whistler anyway!

I agree it was poor form for them not to help you out afterwards or get back to you. I’d still go there again after my experience with them!

Also I presume you mean Tahoe in US??

take Profeet off the list of good bootfitters.

Sounds like you didn’t have a very good experience with them which i’m surprised at because mine was a god send and the best money Ive ever put towards skiing. I have weird shaped feet and was in a lot of pain with my boots before going there.

Did you buy your boots from there or just try and get the ones you had properly fitted?

Also who worked with you? I had Michelle, small dark haired girl. Very good.

Yeah I’d suggest going to a proper boot fitters and see what they say about your boots. If you dopn’t have any comfort issues then count yourself lucky and maybe stick with the boots you have.
But I would definately recommend a foot bed anyway.
Are you sure you can’t change the flex on your boots at all?

A good boot is a boot that fits you well, thats the most important thing. A boot that has an amazing fit on one person might be swimming around another persons foot.

Those are categorised ‘advanced’ skier boots. How good are you after two trips?

An advanced boot with 55 flex  ,

That is naff of them to say that lol…

    michaelmcc

in terms of my level i can pretty much ski parralel on blues but not tried much steeper stuff yet (only a couple of reds)

That flex should be fine for you then until you progress more and want someting stiffer.

If we’re talking about good boot fitters then I have to give a shout out to ProFeet in London. The best money Ive ever spent for skiing! I was in a world of pain before giving them a visit.

Also I didn’t notice the 55 flex. That does sound quite soft, it depends what type of skiing you do though.

having second thoughts about the boots ive bought:

The most important thing about boots is getting the right fit, more so than looks, cost, or whether they are “good” or not. If you’re lucky enough to find an off the shelf boot that fits well without any modifications to the shell etc, then I’d stick with them.

What skis are everyone on by the way?

I got some Line Prophet 98’s. Really nice all mountain ski. I’d like something a bit wider for deep powder though.

Just booked for Pila in Italy for second week in Feb. This will be my second snowboard holiday = utter beginner. Anyone been? Looking forward to a break from you lot for a week

Ive done 1.5 seasons in Pila. Really nice place, its small but once you get to know all the off piste spots most tourists don’t know about its ace.
Cous 1 and 2 probably have the best skiing and boarding there.

Haven’t been there in two years so im a bit rusty on the names of places but if you have any questions fire away!

I have another shout for the Maxxis Medusa, or the Panaracer Trailraker.

Schwalbe black shark muds are nice too.
