Bit of a pattern emerging that looks like most of the guys are a few years older. Are women our age really that bad? :-)

    Not in January

I got panda eye one time skiing for two weeks in switzerland in march when it was overcast nearly every day! Just the exposure does it for me.

I went to a couple of local shops to see what they have, was allowed to ride the rocky mountain element 29 and the kona hei hei around the car park. Love the rocky mountain!

No Scott dealers near me and don’t really want to postal order one without seeing it in the flesh, minimum.

Then someone will spot a gap on the market to attract the price conscious mtb’er

Tesco value, Aldi, Lidl, etc are examples…

What would that be…. an event with no medical assistance, no marshalls, no prize giving or washing facilities?

    No thanks.

I’m half way through my second season and I don’t have it just by wearing sun cream, I think it looks silly. I teach skiing on the slopes too so I’m outside a lot.

Obviously if you keep doing seasons or are a pro then its unavoidable after a few years.

Does anyone actually find it attractive though??

    The mark of the douchebag!

Yeah I think a lot of the young kids do it purposefully these days as a few of my mates have done, which can look silly I reckon.

Not to mention the resemblance of your skin to a leather boot in a few years!

Thing that gets me, is folk moaning about say £70 for event X being too much.

When they’d pay, say, £30 no bother.

Then they go riding on their £3k bike*….

I mean FFS you could spend half that on the bike, the change on weekends away racing and probably have more fun.

    This..

I doubt you can find many mtb routes where you can put out a continuous 2-300 watts, because of climbs, corners, descents, roots, etc, whereas on the road you can actually put out a continuous power for a protracted period.

    This…

The roadies i know are way fitter than the MTB ers, god love you but roadies dont need baggies or carry pies on rides

MTB ers rest going downhill as well – pathetic

    +1 to this.

Ye slinky I was considering a 29er hardtail, but don’t think my body would like it for 24 hour races!

It doesn’t seem like much too me for what you get. A solo only 12/24 event which is one of the only few in the world, a great atmosphere at the start with pipers and an individual roll call to the start line for the top ten, amazing course which had so much work done to it for last years race, and 24 hours of racing!

I guess you could spend the 70 quid on a night out, but thats not really me.

Isn’t it quite late to be thinking about doing it now anyway since it’s in just over a months time..

You got the south downs pretty close to there right? Good for a lash around.

I like the Scott 29ers but don’t have any Scott dealers near me, so It’s kind of a no go unless I order it online without test riding or seeing it in a shop.

I’d like to hear if many people have bought one without testriding it first, and how did it turn out for you?

I know the Giant is good value and probably a really good bike but I don’t like the look of it, which is important to me if I’m spending long hours on it.

You mean panda eye weather :-)

    2 sessions a week = maintain fitness
    3 = fitness gain
    4 = lose weight
    5+ = over training

Rubbish.. You can ride six days a week or more, provided you throw in a couple of recovery spins. How did you come up with 4 a week to lose weight and 5 as over training??? I’m baffled :|

Doesn’t your brain start to slow down when you sleep for long hours every night and don’t do much during the day??… I think it’s caused by a lack of stimuli.

Hopefully it will snow in 3 weeks in Chamonix and i can see what all the mid phat fuss is about .

I wouldn’t call 88 mid fat. It would be ok for about 5 inches of fresh stuff. Skis seem to be getting wider and wider, just like bikes went through a phase of getting more and more travel.

100mm seems to be the new width for all mountain anyway.

Check out the K2 Obsethed for an extreme rocker ski btw.

    michaelmcc

lever on top switches them between a rocker and a regular profile, so they work well on both piste and off-piste…

Not sure how much rocker there is on those as I haven’t seen them, but it’s generally considered that ski’s with extreme rocker are terrible on piste and just spin around like a top with only part of the ski making contact with the snow. You can forget about nice long carved turns with lots of rocker on piste. They would be good in bumps when you need to rotate the skis fast I imagine.
Also not sure of the construction, generally powder skiis chatter a lot when going fast down a cat track or on piste. You’ll see the front foot of the ski bouncing around like a mad thing. Piste skis have dampening properties so the chatter isn’t as bad going through crud and death cookies.

Good idea to bale to swith from rocker to normol profile, me thinks it’ll be a gimmick that will pass over though. I’d rather just have two pairs of skis, just like my two bikes :-) .

I wasn’t too happy with my hope pro II’s. I prefer more fit and forget, less faf.
They have performed well in most races I’ve done, but I’ve tried a mated chris kings a few times and much preferred them. Granted they cost more but they seem worth it.

    Equestrian Cross Country?

You’ll get way more out of 2 shorter sessions as you you’ll be able to do hill reps, intervals etc.

It’s a racing tyre.. I’d sell them and get something more suitable.
