It’s got an ethernet port on one side. You need to connect from that to your home router as I you must be using one if you are trying to extend your network.

By that do you mean it needs to be plugged into the modem? I’m not sure what a router is! When it comes to computers it helps to talk to me like a 5 year old.

Can it not work wirelessly? I’m just looking for something to act as a middle man that connects to the modem, extending the wireless network over a bigger range. Having to connect a cable from it to somewhere else won’t be very practical.

I’m getting the impression I might have bought the wrong tool for the job? Even though the bloke in the shop said it was what I needed.

It can be used to extend the range of a network, or as a printer and audio server.

Suppose this is what I want it to do!

And what exactly do you mean by plugging it in via Ethernet? Its plugged into the wall so it has a power source.

Hey Greg I tried out and I-magnum (or I-Titan?) at Exscape. It was the green and white one anyway, turns with so little effort!

They must be really sketchy in powder though eh? Suppose if you have your technique down then it shouldn’t matter.

Do most people use piste skis anyway? Presume you have to stay on the same ones for the whole week.

Right, does anyone know what skis are best suited for doing the BASI level 3? I’m gonna try and do some of the modules this winter.

At the moment the only skis I own are a pair of Line Prophets (98mm underfoot).

    Cheers.

So the verdict is, they are fake but still good quality/worth the money?

Looks like there was a big dump of snow in La Plagne, France. Not sure it was just localized or spread out over a larger area. Good news though! :D

Is it 2014 when the world 24s are at fort william?

Kind of a messy situation as there’s two different crowds both trying to be the governing body over the 24 hour worlds. I have a feeling the original crowd at 24 hours of Adrenaline will start to fade out a bit after the 2 last disastrous years of cancelling or not going through with the worlds.

And ye fair play to Matt, saw he was only 4 mins behind with about 6 hours to go.

Ye I’d say there’s a good chance it was, still made me laugh though! As you’d have to be a pretty darn skilled and lucky photographer to capture that shot.

K hopefully there will be good enough coverage not to wreck my Lines. Don’t own any battered skis atm.

mbydmt – Hey yeah Ive watched it so many times now. Good mix of big mountain and urban. That grind along the tennis net is really cool! Just such creative skiing with a quality sound track.

I haven’t seen either of those films you mentioned. Retallack is my other favourite ski film, its short, about 30 mins, I just go into this mesmerizing trance when I watch it though, all amazing cat skiing and big mountain stuff. The work of Tanner Hall.

    Almost 500 posts, yay!!

Just thought I’d post up one of my favourite ski segments from possibly my favourite ski movie, Level 1’s Eye Trip.

I think it also shows how skiing is getting “cool” again!!! :D

I’ve pretty much lost interest in the pro peloton over the last few years, hard to take is seriously as a sport anymore. Its becoming more a sport of “whose the best doper”, rather than a sport of battling clean athletes, which I don’t it ever will be.

Ok, I’m doing a BASI level 3 training course in Zermatt from 12th to 16th November.
Does anyone have any idea what the snow will be like around then? I booked my skis on the flight. Are they likely to get trashed? If thats the case I might try and use hire ones, or buy some cheap pre-season skis.

So far I’m hearing Yamaha’s are a good 2nd hand buy. Is that the case with all Yamaha’s? Any other makes or models that are fairly hassle free? Don’t want to be spending half my time trying to tune it.

completely off topic but your photo reminded me to ask what model forks do you use for endurance training cos im destroying fox 32 rl s in about 6 months.

Hey, not sure if you’re saying that you HAVE destroyed your fox in 6 months, or that you most likely will do. I use a rock shox reba, but I’d take a fox over it any day!

Hey so I ended up not buying either, didn’t have a good feel about the guys in the shop who were selling the Gibson, the guy working there didn’t even know how to tune it properly (which i thought would be a basic requirement for working in a guitar shop!!).

Also the special looks like its the basic model, so wasn’t as much of a bargain as i 1st thought. Would still maybe be good enough for my needs though?

Anyway still looking. I have a better idea of things now and of what I want.

And thanks for the offers of people selling but I’d really like to at least pick one up before buying, aye-aye I pass through Cardiff a few times a year but don’t have any plans to be around that area for the next month or so!

Ok I looked at it again and pretty sure its an SG Special, thats what it says on the head and I can’t see anything else written on it.

I played a chord or two on both of them, they both feel good to me because of my inexperience i wouldn’t know what good or bad feels like!

Just played a couple chords on both of them, not sure which SG it is!!! Its all red if that helps? With a red neck too.

One tone nob, one volume nob and the switch with treble adjustment.

I heard someone knocking Technica boots a page or so :P

Here I mine. I thought they were a bit too stiff after I bought them, but now they’ve softened up a bit and Ive got much better too :D .

I did love watching the womens Olympic downhill race in 2010 though. Lots of nail biting finishes and crashes on the hot air jump at the end, including Anja Parson’s crash which was immense! Nearly every 2nd woman crashed in that race as far as I remember. Would love to watch that race again but can’t find it anywhere :(.

Just out of interest, anyone on here follow ski racing much?

I love watching men’s downhill, and woman’s slalom. I think woman’s technique in slalom looks more graceful and stylish than the men’s, but I prefer the way men attack the downhill course.

I don’t do it climbing, but I do it consciously when descending,

Yeah that’s me too, find it helps with balance when flying over the rough stuff. Was mainly talking about flat/uphill riding.

Just thought i’d ask, can anyone suggest a good way to get to Zermatt?? Using plains and trains only. I know the train goes right up to the village, traveled there before from Pila, never from home though!

    Hi Shifter

As a ski instructor myself I thought I could say a few words on this! Ive never taught kids as young as four but taught most ages from 5 and up.

Not sure how it is with other ski schools but the ones Ive taught in, we like to keep adults/parents and ski school separate, so you won’t need to be hanging around and the supervisors won’t want you doing that anyway.

I suppose most instructors I know try to teach kids the same way they would a younger brother or sister, or kids of their own (I don’t have any yet lol).

Also, it makes our job a lot easier if you can get your kid excited and happy about the idea of ski school. I’ve had lots of kids who clearly don’t want to be there and won’t cooperate for the entire class, often some screaming and kicking involved (the kids that is not me!).

Well hope you all have a good time anyway!

Steveomcd, this is the start of my journey for L3, I have a feeling it will take more than one season to do all the modules and pass it all, especially the whole 2nd language thing! May as well have a crack at it though eh.

What skis have you been using so far for all the modules?

How long ago did you do your L2?

You should be Jack White in 6 months but Morello will take a few years maybe.

I thought Jack White’s stuff would be harder!! Unless you’re being sarcastic  .

Also, what about all those fancy looking foot pedals etc, any need for those when starting out? Do you need them for certain sounds I’m guessing?

    michaelmcc

Hey thanks for all the replies so far. All the music I like is edgy electric stuff so don’t think I’d have the same motivation for learning on a acoustic! I have picked up a few guitars a few times and tried to make some kind of sounds that are somewhat coordinated with each other, don’t know any of the right notes or frets though.

Have many people here tried to teach themselves from youtube clips and other stuff online?? I prefer the idea of teaching myself rather than getting lessons. Might do if I find I think I’d have fun with though.

And forgot to mention my budget is about 150-250 quid max.
