What’s prices out there like for kit? Looking at skins, poles and transceivers?

Everything there is over priced imo! Better off buying before you go I would say.

Oh and def try the wings at Dusty’s! Unbelievable!

Off to whistler on sat! Any of you in this fine brain trust have any recommendations, not just about the slopes?

Cobrakai – Hmmmm I have some fav spots, but it’ll cost ye :P .

Well to start with, it depends what kind of stuff you like, but some of my favs include Harmony Ridge, go up Harmony chair and then traverse along the ridge, take any of the horse shoes down, they’re all fun! The first 2 that are probably the gnarliest take longer to get tracked out, best to pick your line from the chair lift up.
Another nice one is if you turn right after getting off Harmony and hike up there, just a 5-10 minute hike, then you head off that ridge towards the huge restaurant, Roundhouse.
Flute bowl is usually nice if you don’t mind the 45 min hike up from the top of Symphony, there’s usually a boot track up.
Spankys has to be done, can’t remember exactly what chair its off, but its on Blackcomb,.. maybe jersey cream or glacier express?! Coulier extreme if a bit of fun too, on Blackcomb also. That should get you started  .

So in my case, paragliding, rock climbing, canoeing and more extremes off piste have all gone in return for the joy and added responsibility of marriage, kids, growing up etc.

See I don’t like the sound of that :| . I did say during a “discussion” with my ex that I thought life ended once you had kids and were married  .. which was maybe a bit harsh, but I do think that to a certain extent. Of course you have a whole new life that’s only beginning too.

I see where you’re coming from emsz..

he once took me to NY and said I could have antyhing in Tiffanys as an Xmas pressie, i walked in looked at all the pretentious woman said “no thanks” and walked out again .. had my pic taken with the sign though!!

I like your style  . New bike parts all the way! I’ve never had a gf with similar interests, sometimes I think I’m better off. I don’t think I’d have the patience to go away on a weeks skiing or biking with a gf who was really slow and/or moany! :P

Bored?…..why should i get bored just because i have no significant other half?.

I dunno, just someone to vent off to after a bad day or whatever. Supposes there’s mates and random people at bus stations for that though :-).

I was watching ‘take me out’ last night

Bit of a cringe show but it is funny seeing how picky some girls are. I think they think along the lines of “if he’s out there playing football or cycling the whole time then when is he gonna have time for me”.

Didn’t see that, I never really look at the front page tbh. I hope the driver goes behind bars anyway.

OK, my mum has finally admitted she needs to get herself some custom fitted ski boots, she can’t imagine not skiing in pain which has to change! Sooo what boot fitters in London would the STW crew recommend? I had a really good experience with ProFeet, and I would highly recommend them, but wanted to see what the vast majority here think!

Pet peeve when skiing, skiers that move off from the side of the piste, or whatever part of it, without looking up the hill first!!!!! :x

I nearly got wiped out a few times, and saw a wipe out where a lady moved off totally oblivious to who and what was around her, when me and another guy who were fairly close to her went shooting past and she was forced off the slope and crashed herself lol! Served her right I was thinking. I’m just back from a cracking week in Champagny, snow could have been better but the sun was cracking!

Why is it always the way that it snows just as you leave resort!?

In Champagny for the week, got 3 days left, parts of today were amazing as there was about 10cm or so of fresh snow (depending on where you were), found some really nice un-tracked lines, I don’t know my way around at all though so didn’t take too many risks, stayed fairly close within eyesight of a chair lift.
Anyone else out here or know it well? Like to show me around?? I’ll be back out in the middle of Feb. :D

It was my first day at whistler this year, we always give it a month or so after opening to get good

Yeah that’s wise, takes a while for the base to build up so all the trees/rocks are covered. I didn’t fancy heading up in the first month myself, couldn’t be bothered getting a set of “pre-season” skis and didn’t want to wreck my good ones.

One essential item you can’t go away skiing without/always make sure to pack? Just curious. The one thing I usually pack first are my goggles. I’d be gutted if I forgot them!

    Where you staying ?

Staying in my parents chalet in the village. What ares are good for off piste there? As in from the top of what chair lift(s)? Plan on meeting someone who could show me around for a day but I’d like to have an idea myself for the first day or so.

In 48 hours I’ll be well on my way to Champagy En Vanoise! :D

Not quite sure what expect yet as never skiid there, in the back of my mind I’ll probably be comparing it to Whistler the whole time. I have no doubt the food will be better than Whistler though, which can’t be hard.

Bontrager 24/12, really good format of a 12 and 24 hour race in the same location and weekend, and a 12 hour race that starts at midnight. All the usual options for teams/pairs/solo etc. Great fun event!
