Off to Champagny over new years, will be about my 4th time there but I still haven’t managed to find a good off piste/ slack country line. Anyone know of any guides around there or La Plagne? I’d really like to get to know some of the other stuff there, it doesn’t seem to be as obvious to find as places in Canada though.

So the ski pants I’m looking at are apparently 60% off the rrp so can’t imagine them being cheaper elsewhere? And If I have to send them back because they don’t fit or whatever, after the flash sale has ended, will that be a problem?

I can afford to wait about a month for it to arrive. Should be sufficient?

So it looks like we seem to think the surfers who perished simply got caught in a rip and didn’t know how to escape? I’m guessing they were trying to swim against it and drowned and probably later died of secondary drowning. Sad as in my experience with rips, they can be easy to get out of if you know how (swim to either side of it).

My mate talks about a spot in Pembrokeshire where he uses the rip to get out rather than having to paddle out, then simply surfs back in, sounds handy! Its a regular one by a pier wall.

Ive been in a few of them but never any huge ones. I was out one day when a young surfer was frantically paddling towards shore while I was on my way out and says to me “Ive been trying to paddle in for about half an hour”… duh 🙄 .. Swim to the side I told him. He was fine in the end.

Just terrible. I agree they might not have fully known what they were doing out there.

Well that was a tough but fun (I think?!) race. Happy to come away with 9th Elite in such a competitive field. Happy for Ant to get second. I still need to sleep it off but I’ll try do a report on it soon. Good to see everyone again.

So it sounds like the taxi driver didn’t check his mirrors properly before making the left turn cutting off the cyclist, and the cyclist should be ashamed of himself? A smashed wing mirror is the driver getting off lightly, imo.

I currently have 5 huge wolf spiders in my living room at the moment, there was 6 but last night i had to remove the largest one and place it outside as it was making too much noise. I was reading a book and all i could hear was “pitter…pitter…pitter….pitter” as it ran back and forward across the bare floorboards intimidating the other spiders who hide in the corners and the constant noise was distracting/annoying me so i managed to catch her which was easy as she just sat on her haunches and waved her legs in a threatening fashion when i approached her. I imagine she’s still outside and the squeals i heard from from my neighbours cats hopefully mean she’s making friends, she was rather large as her legs stretched from one side of my palm to the other and her thorax was larger than the nail on my small finger – very visible fangs as well.

That is just eewww. So gross. How could you let one of them run around like that.

Do you use a foam roller and stretch? Or do you ever get a sports massage? Knots develop in the muscles from extended periods of training. Rolling on your legs with a roller at least three times a week helps to ease them and should take some of the heaviness out. But you might need to get some needling done if the knots are bad, don’t know a huge amount about it but my understanding is that the damaged/stressed muscle tends to clump together instead of being in line like smooth fibres. Needling will help a lot but make sure you find someone experienced to do it. I get it done every 2-3 months or the week after a hard training period. Helps a lot.

replace them all is the only way to be sure, you will have to at some point anyway but when it happens in the future you’ll have have used spares.

Both times a mech’s gone on me has been late on in a race: 4am at Sleepless and 85km into a 100km MTB-O event.

I broke a shifter at about 2am in Bonty 24!

If you’ve only had the bike 18 months, unless you’re putting massive mileage on it, you shouldn’t be having bits ‘fail’ left right and centre.

Well so far its done Iron Bike, one 24 solo and a two 100km marathons and a few shorter ones, along with lots of other long weekend rides.

Fort Bill is pretty weather dependent. Plenty to do when it’s good but bloody grim when it isn’t. What sort of stuff is she into?

We both like going for walks and sight seeing etc, would definitely be into seeing some nice waterfalls.

I’ve just been throwing it in the washing machine with some washing powder. Think I’ll go for a darker colour next time though alright.
