Biking has been a life long crisis.

Cars too, the current one is beautiful to be in but horribly greedy, expensive to maintain and insure. Oh and has about 300+ horsepower more than you can ever need on the road.

I’m very close to giving up the office career and going back to fixing/looking after cars, though the will be vintage/classic race cars this time rather than new. It’ll ruin the bank account, my back (again, not to mention the finger nails don’t you know.

    But I’ll be happy!

    I hope.

Motorbike generates a bit more heat though.

Well I’ve turned my Hope rotors (floating and non) blue numerous times, so I’d say they’re getting just as hot as motorbike ones.

I know what a 3 series is, and a 5 series, but for the life of me have no understanding of what the E numbers mean and why they are used rather than say ‘a 2007 ish 5 series’

    Enlighten me please ?

Because a 2010 registered 5 Series could be an E6x or an F1x which are totally different cars

The 174BHP 2.0 diesel engine has timing chain issues. Engine out/gearbox off job as the chain is at the back of the engine.

Had a group session @ BPW and another with UK Bike Skills. I’d only recommend the latter.

It was more because their brake pads are a threat to people’s safety, their owner slagged off his customers online and he wouldn’t refund shonky products even though the cheap tat he had bought from China turned out to be rubbish.

The brake pad issue was 5-7 years ago. Some people need to get over it. I had one pair delaminates back then which were replaced no questions asked when I made (polite) contact about it. I’ve also had shimano and hope pads do the same. Since then I’ve continued to use their pads and not had a problem, I think they work great just as good as the others that are 3x the price.

Yes their products aren’t as well built/finished as king/hope etc but they are a fraction of the cost. You want king quality pay king prices, simple.

I think my Hope one is a good 4 years old and now fitted to a mates bike and he is a serial pressure washer.

It’s probably had one or two re-greases in that time.

I’ve had the old roller one for about 2 years and it’s been fine. I did strip the bearings and packed them with waterproof grease though.

I use a Praxis Works converter in my Carbon PF30 Stumpjumper so I can run standard HT2 type cranks.

It’ll be two years old mid summer, ridden all year removed once when i fully stripped the bike to clean it.

Or swap to a travel adjust fork for climbing if you’re happy with it on the flats and downs

    I’m running 120/140 revs. It’s better up @ 120 but it’s by no means bad @ 140. They pretty much stay @ 140 unless it’s a very steep climb.

My Stumpy 142+ has only ever run with a Hope Pro2 Evo. Never had any issues.

X9 and X0 mechs, but I do always change to lowest cog as it’s much easier getting the wheel in and out.

The Emergency Services have access to software that allows them to ‘find’ the phone via Cell Tower triangulation. So they should be able to pin point the user if the want to.

Various other businesses also have access to this software but it requires the permssion of the phone owner to use it.

But you make it sound like it’s double the complexity – it really isn’t. The electric motors have no lambda sensors, camshaft position sensors, timing belts, injection pumps, maf sensors etc etc etc etc. They don’t even have servicing requirements.

    Mol,

If there’s is one person NOT to argue with about anything automotive related it’s Max.

He knows better than you. And me. I’ve spent 25 years working in the industry for manufactures in technical roles.

    EDIT

That’s weird, my PC initially showed that as a post by MAXTORQUE

Mamufacturers have been minimising wieght for years,

    Like hell they have!
Cars have been getting heavier and heavier since the 70s as people think they want more and more electrical gubbins, passive safety and other such extras bolted to them.
I assume you think power steering, big fat tyres, aircon, ABS, and umpteen electric motors weigh nothing?

No I don’t and I didn’t say cars had gotten lighter either.

They have been minimising weight whist adding all the emmissions, safety frippery and gizmos that is required to sell a car now. If you built a car with todays manufacturing technologies to 1990’s safety, emmssions, comfort and tech levels it would be a dam sight lighter than they were then.

Because it can then be added as a cost option like my car is ?

Already passed its Homolgation by then! And thus you get the cheaper RFL.

Mamufacturers have been minimising wieght for years, it’s the easiest way to reduce CO2.

Why do you thing nothing has a spare wheel anymore?

And you’d be very very wrong. My environmental footprint makes absolutely no difference to YOURS. Your footprint is your own responsibility, and dismissing what I say because of my footprint is pointless. This isn’t a moral competition.

Why have you spent this whole thread doing exactly this then? Everyone who has made a different motoring decision to the one you make is aparently wrong.
