Issue is the Cat a/b/c/d is only “guidelines” from the insurance companies themselves and not legal.

    Pretty sure that’s wrong.

Interesting and scary read. How have your following deep dives gone? Did you get any feedback as to the cause/have you change your methodology since the incident?

    Cheers

If anyone is interested I wrote an article about another “experience” I had while diving.

    It involves:
Hanging on to a decompression trapeze so the boat can tow me out of the shipping lanes.

Attempting to complete my final 35 mins of deco while losing consciousness.

    Asphyxia underwater.
    Asphyxia on the boat.

Bit long to post here – I can email it to you if you want.

For some weird and horrific reason I’d like to read it. email in profile.

    Thanks

I thought this was just me, I’ve had probably 8/10 random e mails from people asking Peugeot/citroen technical advice a few was off here so I helped as much as possible but most was “ive found singletrack from a Google search and I see you work for Peugeot/citroen can you Diag my car and tell me how much to fix it by my random guesses and the advice of what Dave down the pub says it may be… I try to help but the last one was “I think the turbo has gone because the light is on how much to fix it and are you sure it’s that…”

Its only the post 2006 cars that have 184bhp. 2006 cars have 161bhp and it is not much to push 1800+Kgs of car plus its occupants and belongings. At least it’s supercharged so will have a good spread of torque.

Just as a side note – if you have any building work done, you will need to replace all your internal doors with fire doors to meet building regs. That can add up if there are a lot of them!

We’ve just had a loft conversion/extension and the cost of the fire doors is £2K alone! We were not aware of this beforehand

Is that not because it has become a 3 floor building?? Rather than just having building work done.

Edit – ^^ he got there first!

BTW, i’m not that worried in absolute value for money, as i’d be giving up my rallying to do this. (And last time i made a mistake doing that, it cost me £22k in about 4 seconds………..)

Does that mean you’re not going to finish building the toy in the garage?

Am I right in thinking you can’t plug anything directly into a Play 1? I’d need to connect a DAB radio

Why the need to plug the DAB in? Most radio will be found via the Sonos App

Put a multimeter across the terminals and check the it is holding around 12v with the engine off and around 13-14 volts with it running.

Car battery @ 12.0 volts is dead flat. A charged battery is around 12.5-12.6 volts

    Pitchforks away

EU cars are fine say VW

    Apparently.

VW have already said that the same software concerns all cars in all markets

But not that it activates anywhere other than the US test

    michaelbowden

The US cheat software would not activate under the Euro test.

Now that really does need a link to back it up because the Euro 5 test uses exactly the same unrealistically light loads as the EPA test.

I’m not saying they haven’t cheated the EURO test with the same method nor that they have either. But if they have it must be a different cheat map to the US one.

For the ECU to switch to the cheat map it had to recognize a specific set of circumstances. The US test may be just as unrealistic to real life driving as the EURO one, BUT the testing is undertaken differently so the EURO cheat (if there is one) would need to be looking for a totally different set of circumstances.

    EURO test procedure

    US test procedure

As the Euro test is much easier to pass (on the NOX front) than the US one, and EURO cheat could be much less restrictive to the engines performance.

It’s not a supposition but it is based on a completely different test carried out on another continent, the results were all over the nNet a few weeks back. And logic, if VW’s current models met Euro 5 without the cheat software there wouldn’t be a recall.

The US cheat software would not activate under the Euro test. It was written to run under the specific testing that the US regulations require. So if they required a cheat to meet EURO 5 regulations it would have to be a separate cheat!

Alternatively, they wrote one map that ‘met’ worldwide regulations, albeit with a secondary cheat map builtin to meet the US regulations. And the EURO recall could be to ‘just’ remove the illegal secondary map.

    All the evidence…

    what evidence?
all I’ve seen is media sensationalism, lots of rumour and supposition, and millions of people (and journalists that did journalism at college, rather than automotive engineerinf) that have suddenly become experts overnight in the petrochemical industry and technology behind how a car engine works.

    ^^^^^ this.

All the evidence from the US testing says that the cars wouldn’t have met the EURO 5 NOx targets without the cheat software. If the cars get below the 2009 180mg/km on the Euro test without the cheat software and a remap VW won’t have problem in Europe. We won’t know that until the remaps are released and someone can test the cars.

Have they actually been retested to see if they meet EURO 5 standards, by an approved testing agency?

Surely they need to be tested prior to the remap.

Or is this all just supposition based on a completely different test carried out on another continent?

Is there any evidence yet that these car don’t meet EURO regulations? Everything I’ve seen is about not meeting the US NOX regulations and the software cheat was to pass these.

So from what Ive seen so far, there’s no need to alter the performance/mapping of EURO models. The FIX may just be removing the cheat software which would never have come in to operation in Europe anyway.

If that’s the case all your cars will drive just the same with or without the FIX.

If the above is correct, then no one in the EU has been miss-sold a car, it’s just as clean as the advertising etc. And the ambulance chasers hopefully won’t make a bean.

Well SC are sending out a new rocker, they too think it might be slightly incorrectly sized allowing the excessive travel.

The way SC linkages work they get close to the inflexion point (if thats the right term?) at the end of the stroke. Perhaps the bottom-out bumper had failed allowing the shock to travel the small extra distance that allowed the link to flip over. Or potentially.. was the rider running offset bushes?

I was there and I fixed it.

Stato is right, the rocker rotated over center, so the shock is then forcing it in the wrong direction.

The bottom-out bumper is fine and the shock is the original correct one and was serviced/rebuilt after the first time it happened.

My gut feeling it that the frame/linkages/shock is right at the wrong end of the tolerances which allows a tiny amount too much travel.

The owner is contacting SC, in the meantime I’m going to add to the bottom-out bumper to stop it happening again.

They are in such a bind even a Renault engine looks to be an upgrade, and the fact that Arai-san thinks his engine is better than the French one undermines his credibility a whole lot.

The engine (ICE) maybe, which is all that’s been said – the rest sure as hell isn’t
