I've just had a reply from Turner as I want my 5Spot re PC'd. They do their own re-coating service and say that only if oven temps reach 450F/230C will the heat treating be effected.

    1. Different grade of fuel used in winter to stop the fuel waxing.
    2. More electrical consumers used, therefor higher load on the engine.
    3. Longer warm-up cycle due to lower abient temprature.

Normally enough to give a circa 10-15% increase in consumption of diesel.

what you are entitled too and get from any retailer are not alawys the same thing.
"you might be too late to get all your money back…."
the retailer will exercise their discretion to decide on a reasonable time scale based on how hard you fight and whether they think if it goes to court the'll win.
up to the point a judge decides on a reasonable time scale for any particlular case its the retailers decision that will count.
from my experience, 1 fault at 3 months old, a judge would say the retailer/maunufacturer should be allowed to repair or replace as they see fit. howerver if they are unable to repair/replace you would get a refund.

TJ. Yes an XT Hollowtech 11, BB.

    TJ.

What makes you believe that the bearing wears first, causing play thus allowing water in past the seal?
Surely the seal not being 100% water tight, water entering and causing corrosion therefore instant wear, therefore play is just as if not more likely.

I base this on the No. of cartridge bearings I have stripped due to partial seizing, where the lube is almost absent and corrosion has started. Cleaning and re-lubing with a waterproof grease resolves the problems for many hundred of miles.

For example, I fitted a new XT HT11 BB to my mates bike for a trip to Wales. 2 day's very wet riding followed by washing the bike (no jetwash) and parking the bike up for a week caused the BB to be notchy and horrible. On stripping, the bearings were full of rusty water and very little grease. The BB was cleaned re-lubed with Marine grease and nearly 2 years on is still runing fine with no further maintainance.

And before you suggest my initial poor fitting was the cause, I can assure you I am more that qualified to fit a BB.

Except TJ they never use a waterproof grease because the bearings are a standard industry size not normally used in the wheel/bottom bracket/headset of a bike that spends it's life splashing through puddles.

I tend to lift the seals on all new bearings I fit, wash them clean and fill with a Marine grease. If you are careful with a sharp blade you'll lift the seal without damaging it.

Or you could try my 2004 Hope XC front hub that is still on its original bearings (no maintainance, still silly smooth and no play. The rear hub still has it's original hub bearings but has had a new free body this year with bearings due to a worn out pawl housing. Much easier that stripping and re-building C&C hubs 2 or 3 times a year!

Any motor manufacturer would be the same outside warranty, I have worked for serveral.

Whilst they cannot insist that you have your servicing done in their network to keep it's warranty. For all goodwill (i.e. repairs covered/partly covered outside of the warranty period) they will look to see if you have supported their dealer network before offering any support.

Why should a manufacturer of any product support a customer beyond the warranty when they have not supported them/their network?

    Bullfrog

If Pug do offer to assist with the cost of the repair and you also contribute you will have 12 month warranty on the repair. if Pug cover the whole cost you will get no warranty on the repair.

If you want any more help email me

if you're having the work done at a Pug dealer you might be lucky with some help towards the cost but it won't be all of it. Ask the dealer to contact Pug UK to ask for help with the cost. If work being done outside the Pug network you'll have no luck

    Hi

I've used them for about 6 years, also due to bad knees. I think they are great but not everyone gets on with the free float. All the bits are replaceable (not cheap though). You occasionally get need to twist your foot to get it to clip in if you have been walking/stood in sticky mud. I wouldn't use anything else now.

If it has ABS when ignition is turned on there will be an ABS light that comes on on the dash, which will then go out after a couple of seconds folowing the self test.

I assume it is running on a pair of 1 1/8" SU's but if it is on Strongburgs the same will apply.

You say the carbs were tuned, do you mean just had the mixtures set, to get the Co OK for the MOT? The car is 30 years old and in all probability the needle and jets are worn and the float height will be way out and possibly the slide spring weak, settting the miture at idle to get correct Co for the MOT will not get round the wear, so once you are off idle the mixture will probably be all over the show.

You can very eaily overhaul these carbs yourself, all the bits and instructions are available from someone like Southern Carburettors (www.southerncarbs.co.uk)

    Hope that helps

Incorrect spring and incorrect trackrod ends can/will cause excessive tyre wear/odd tyre wear pattern and give odd steering feel/characteristics

Use a decent garage with qualified technicians not a tyre fitters for any work to your car that is not tyre/exhaust fitting. Especially if you are asking them to diagnose faults.

As other have said, take the report from second KFit to first and demand they recitfy. If they won't rectify recorded letter to head office (try to MD name)with copies of paperwork + copy to Trading Standards.
If still no luck get report from someone independant (AA/RAC) then get recitfied elsewhere and serve KFit with papers from Small Claims Court to recover costs, include the cost of the worn tyres if believe to be due to faulty workmanship/incorretly fitted parts.
The KFit that carried out the work have a legal duty of care for the work they carried out.

If I can be any more help, email in profile.

    Cheers

I'm not going to cmment on his possible marketing techiques but every dealing with neil I have had are positive, i've found him polite and reasonable on the phone this incudes the way he dealt with a bad set of pads and a free LH crank arm he sent me 2 weeks ago because the spliines had worn on mine well outside of the warranty. I really find it odd that people seem to have experiences that are so different!?
