Got mine a few weeks ago, 6’1 and shrinking with age.. L fits me fine but ‘feels’ small. I’d  go with XL if 6’2.

Again sad news on hearing on Mboys sad situation. I sort of drifted off MTBs 6 years ago due to other activities but thanks to Mark selling me a very lovely KTM Revelator Sky he got me hooked on being a roadie tosser..
Always sad to see a local shop go down but even sadder when it put on so much for the local bike community, either road or MTB. Will miss the Thursday fast boy rides out( not really, they really hurt!) And the slightly more sedate Sunday road runs, plus the wyre forest off road bimbles..
All the best to Mboy for the future what ever direction he goes.
An aside note.. FFS support your lbs when ever possible..CRC/ wiggle might save a few quid but when it’s 17.35 on Saturday night and you need a new gear cable, widget etc to keep you riding all sunday for that monster ride you planned months ago, best of luck..I can personally attest to mboy driving some 150 miles round trip to pick up a bike for me that the supplier had delivered to the wrong shop, and that was his day off too!

All the best Mboy, don’t let the bastards grind you down.

my 2 pennies worth.. have got roped into doing a trialthon with work 1st Octber. it’s an open water swim of 1500 metres.
Like the OP in the pool I can blast out a good breast stroke and can do a mile in about 40 mins.
Front crawl though, despite my best efforts, I could only ever manage 1 or 2 lengths before spluttering.

So tried open water swimming at a local boating lake a few weeks ago. Bit nippy in trunks (everyone was in wetsuits), but cracked on with breaststroke. (just like being on holiday, minus the sun, sand and cheap beer.) safety bloke who was recording the times of entry/ exit from the water said just try 20 mins first, see how the cold water affects you.

Like i said, was cold but after a few mins warmed up and did 4 laps of the 400m cct no probs.
that was start of July, but thanks to workand an algae break out at the pool I had to carry on training at the pool on my alledged front crawl.. where I got up to the lofty distance of 2 lenghts ( 50 meters ) with out gasping for breath.
Got myself a wetsuit form local tri shop ( blue seventy spirt for 115 quid ) got to try it for the first time 2 days ago.

A wetsuit does help with leg buoyancy for the front crawl. the open water place is marked out with 4 buoys in diamond pattern , each a 100 meters apart. I find that in the open water, I could swim slower , and get to do a 100m leg, tread water get breathe back, then crack on again. However after 2 laps was blowing out my hoop so swam to the side to get out. Had a chat with the safety bloke, saying I just couldn’t sort out my breathing, as was trying to do 3 strokes, breathe, 3 strokes breathe, 2 stroke breath and spot. ( spot= looks where the **** Im going). he said when he’s fresh in the water he does 3 strokes to every breath, but when tried, drops down to 2, and spots just before the lead hand goes into the water..

So back out, tried the 2 strokes, breathe and spot..**** me backwards.. could do the 100m between the buoys without looking like a floundering asthmatic pit pony!! tried this for one lap to find which side I perferred breathing on, then last last , did the 400 meters non stop. Came out the water beaming!! Now I can do the breathing I can work on my stroke technique, so well happy..

Just give it a go.. but short durations to begin with, walk in slowly to the water to give the body time to acclimatise. A wetsuit will help no end.. wiggle do their OCRA TRN one for 100 quid and gets a good write up, my blue70 sprint is on sale for about 80 quid from cyclesurgery.

yo Graham. I got the boardman cx team last October when they came out, mainly as a disc’d winter commuter, but also taking in easy bridalways, and extended canal commutes.
So my obs.. Iffy frame finishes.. There was a thread on this when they first came out. Second bike had cracked carbon forks.. On the drop outs..
Cup and cone wheels.. It’s just me but I destroy cup and cone rear hubs just by looking at them, so now gave sealed bearing hubs.
Bb is pf30…I am on the 3rd set of replacement bearings.
Comes with 50t outer as standard..
The sram double tap is argricultural in shifting when compared to the 105 on my road bike, but is easier to do in mid winter with thick gloves on.
The stock saddle is a weapon of ass destruction, god knows how any one apart from sadists can get on with it.
The brakes are bb5 and are not that great, just waiting on Dhl to deliver me some bb7 roads from high bike in Germany for 95quid.

So why did I buy it? I brought it when halfords were doing 10% discount and also managed to use a bcf discount as well so got it well cheap from the stock 900 quid price.

My mate has brought the Planet X carbon crosser for a grand, and truth be known, I should have waited and got that, 105, ht2 bb, bb7 etc etc.
But in spite all of my above slagging, it is a fun bike and quite capable… Hey ho..

I would go for the ally one too, just for the wheels compared to the carbon one. The cup and cone hubs are heavy lumps..

Ok, took my bike back to Halfords on the Monday, and a new one was requested in. Picked it up wednesday, and said I would build it myself. get it back home, there was still a crack in the finish on the ST/TT junction, non drive side but a lot smaller, and I couldn’t be arsed **** around so placed a circular helicopter patch on it to cover it and prevent water / mud ingress etc.
Wife was out so bike stand in the front room..
Set about building it up, changed the 50t chingring to a 46, took off the chicken levers and fitted new brake outers. redid the tape, fitted my time pedals, changed the tyres. Set up the back brake.
Came to fit the front wheel, removed the plastic insert/ spacer from the forks.. and ‘laughed’ in a sweary way as one half of the drop outs came away with it. I forgot to take a pic,, but looked like it was done when the plastic drop out spacer was inserted with a hammer or something!!

Called the store, they stripped off the forks form the bike i returned on Monday and i did a straight swap..
finally built up and it rides fine…

The 55.5 cm is the same size as my 58 cm trek road frame. The boardmans do come up big as thinking about it my Mate is 6 foot 5 and is on a 57.5 cm boardman road bike.

Of course you did Steve. Corrected version should read,
“I kept Mick in brews and cake, while he fettled the bike to perfection, and had my first proper ride on it today and was very impressed with Micks spanner work.”

Last wednesday over the wyre, 1st MTB ride since breaking ribs 6 weeks ago. Giving it some welly on the section called fast loop, and thr front wheel washes out on a tree root. over the handlebars , going head first towards atree. Instinctively place my right hand out to break the impact..
Hand goes flat onto the tree, I then headbutt my index finger at about 15miles an hour! Finger swelled up up nicely, fair bit of bruising too. ( still doesn’t bend properly) Best part was next day riding to work on the road bike trying to change gear and cover the front brake with a walls sausage shaped digit.
