I had a similar problem when living in a terrace surrounded by people who also used BT Hubs.

As suggested above, I used a scanner (I can’t remember which one, it was a Vista Widget) to find out what channels were in use and set my router to one that wasn’t. It worked happily from then until I moved.

Is there no subscriber edition for issue 103? My copy has the headlines on the front and seems to be missing the subscriber content in the back.

Still looks good though, looking forward to reading with a brew.

We used Dogtag for a trip last year. We went as a group of 8 and had been looking at individual policies until one of the lads rang them about a group discount.

With all of us under one policy we saved around £12-15, whilst not a huge amount it’s better than nothing.

I currently use one of these after seeing them on Kickstarter.

The only issue I’ve had is my bank card becomming tatty on the corners and the lamination coming off. They come with a blocking card so that could be used as protection.

No, they make chilli, then you put the ricin

Good point from project there, some shops are having intermittent issues with card machines so make sure you have cash with you.

You should be ok, most of the roads are open now. A few pubs close to the river (Kings Arms etc.) are still closed and I think a few on Fossgate are closed whilst they repair the damage. All the ones in the centre up near the Minster are fine.

I’m looking at the Ouse out of the office window at the moment and it’s come down significantly. I’d advise you to keep an eye on the news/twitter/faceache though as we’re due a visit from Frank soon apparently.

It will take time to get used to them, The first time I used them I had a nice pootle round outside the bike shop, pulled up to stop and promptly fell over as I forgot to unclip, it will happen many times at first .

As Wookster says above, think about unclipping well before you need to. When I first started using them on the road I used to coast up to junctions, unclip the foot I prefered to put down on rolled up with that foot dangling until I stopped. After a while I’ve stopped thinking about it and ride as if I’m on flats.

For those stuck with the shadow on the wall.

Would it help if we said “Swiftly remove yourself from that female’s presence you non-male canine”? Or does that make it worse?

I wonder how Jeff is going to beat them this time round, surely they’ll have installed AVG following their last encounter.

OO – Work in York but live just the other side of Dalby so there quite regularly. Would be interested in a few group rides, as long as you’re not expecting race pace :) email should be in profile.

The Maltings (next to Lendal Bridge) and the House of Trembling Madness (Stonegate) are both nice pubs and have some good real ales on, both very small though so tend to be very busy.

Other “proper” pubs I can think of off the top of my head are below, you could easily link these up as a couple are on the same street.

    Stonegate:

    The York Brewery
    Ye Olde Stare Inne

    Goodramgate:

The Old White Swan (Mucky Duck)

Kings Square, just round the corner from Goodramgate:

    Last Drop Inn
Duke of York (opposite the Last Drop)

    ah, the art of Bi-King…

That’s the one! I still have them on DVD somewhere, I might have to dig them out for a bit of nostalgic viewing.

Another little tip if you go for it, once you’ve learnt your new skills on a hardtail and decide to test them on the trails, remember if you ride a full suss that they bend in the middle. That might be experience talking

amedias is right about a proper trials bike feeling very strange compared to a “normal” bike, very light at the front and with the short back ends it does feel like the bike is going to loop out from underneath you, a lot. I started on an old Raleigh dual slalom frame with rigid forks, granny ring and good v-brakes. This is enough to learn the balance skills you’ll need. Even after riding like this for ages the move to a proper trials bike (a Brisa 26) felt really strange.

First thing I learnt to do was trackstand properly, before moving onto anything advanced. I also found that when learning to pedal kick, I hopped backwards at least 4/5 times for every kick forward :)

The Martin’s had a couple of videos, Dirty Tricks and Cunning Stunts and the second one I can’t remember the name of that I found quite useful, and good fun to watch. I can’t hear the phrase chocolate foot without hearing it in Hans Rey’s accent now though.

Was with them for a few years without issue, when I did need to claim the process was easy and I got more than I expected for the car with a good turnaround.

They do have quite high admin changes for adjustments though, I seem to recall my address change was around £40, as was my registration plate change after a chat with a nice Traffic Officer highlighted the fact either me or Hastings had keyed it in incorrectly and I was in fact, uninsured.

The only reason I left was my staff discount bringing my employer in line with their prices, now I’ve handed my notice in I’ll probably be going back on my next renewal.

Really like this, I think I prefer the videos he does with the technical, linked up lines like this. It gives the feeling of someone out, having fun on their bike and riding for themselves.

The ending, what a way to close the video!

I’m enjoying Duet and Monument Valley, little bit of thinking involved and strangely addictive.

Crossy Road (basically Frogger) is fun for a few minutes.

Lloyd Bridges quotes (a la Hot Shots) are a favourite in our office when we get these calls. You can hear the confusion when you state you lost your tongue, and it was “replaced with a Basset Hounds”

I have indeed, linked through passbook by scanning my debit card, it went straight in without any issues.

I just have a standard HSBC current account with a none contactless card. I think some types of account can’t be linked, for example my Natwest account doesn’t seem to like it.

A call to HSBC will probably solve it.

good old bombproof GShocks…..if you look around you will find an analogue one going cheap without all the storm trooper looks.

These can be had for less than £100 and are quite subtle, a little more will get you a solar & radio controlled one.

at least its just a satnav, not like the ipad i saw the other day stuck to the middle of their windscreen, and it wasnt an ipad mini either.

I remember seeing this on the A1 a while back, full sized iPad (the orignal with the wider bezel) smack bang in the middle of the screen under the rear view mirror.

I’m surprised I didn’t crash into anything in front of me as I stared open mouthed they drove by!

I’m looking for the same thing and the Five Ten Guide Tennies and Adidas Terrex Solo have caught my attention.

Both of them are approach shoes (designed a little more for walking somewhere then scrambling up a rock face I think) with the Stealth sole used on the Five Ten bike shoes, so the grip is pretty much guaranteed.

Can’t comment on the flex/comfort for cycling though as I’ve not decided which ones I want yet, but might be worth looking at. The designs might not be for everyone though, interesting colours in some cases.

I had the same issue with mine a while ago. The only way I found of getting the sound back was to go into settings and restart the device from there.

There were no settings to alter that I could find, google didn’t really help either. I never did find out what the problem was, it seemed to come about after I’d started streaming from my phone after using the Macbook and vice versa.

Enjoyable reading, the fun you had at BPW comes through well. The only feedback I have is that you’ve made me want to ride my bike, and I’m stuck at my desk all day. That’s just mean :-)

I actually moved from an LX to a parallel push XT on the front of my old Brisa, there was a noticable difference in power, even without a brake booster. I didn’t use the cartridge pads though, I used some bright blue “sticky” ones, I think they were made by Planet X.

I ran my bike like that for years with a Magura HS33 on the back and for me it was an ideal set up.

All these warnings aboout not looking directly at the sun, I presume that during the eclipse the looking at the sun is no more dangerous than looking at the sun on any other day?

I think (something I’ve heard so might not be right) that it’s something to do with the concentration and the brightness of the flare coming from the parts of the Sun left as the Moon starts to cover it. It’s brighter than the Sun usually would be so has more potential to cause damage.

A neoprene roll mat was good enough for me (although I can sleep anywhere), rolled up in a bin liner on the outside of my bag. I’ve still got it, it must be 20 years old now.

A top tip I was given when I did my DofE awards and expeditions through cadets was “pay attention to the socks you wear”. A lot of people on my expeditions wore the polyester style sports socks (Wilson etc.)and suffered for it.

I was advised to wear a thin pair of proper cotton socks under thicker walking socks. The only time I’ve ever had a blister was after walking out of my tent in my clean socks forgetting that dew existed. As it was a short stint on the last morning I risked just wearing the walking socks and learned a valuable lesson.

Other things I learned from my expeditions:

Keeping a kit to make hot drinks in a side pocket or somewhere easily accessible is a really good idea, hiding behind the stones on a wet and windy Inglebrough was made infinitely better by being able to make a brew.

Learn some marching songs, the dafter the better. It really helps keep spirits up, especially on any sections that are flat and a little boring. We managed to think of lots of things to do with that little bird with a yellow bill that landed on our window sill.

Pay attention to timings, I don’t know if things have changed since I did mine but on our practice walk we were warned about hitting a checkpoint half an hour early. We’d planned the route using the cards and contour theories but didn’t realise how much we were cracking on through one of the sections. Each taking a turn monitoring our pace on the actual expedition helped a lot.

Reading this thread is making me a little nostalgic, some great times on those walks. Need to dig out the kit and do it again.

Try diesel as sometimes the premiums are cheaper.

My first car was a 1.7td Cavalier, insurance came in cheaper than a 1.4 petrol Astra and even a 1.0 Fiesta, think around £700ish TPFT for the Cav vs £1200ish for the Astra and it was brilliant for transporting bikes.

A 1.7 Vectra might be worth looking at, not the most exciting but should swallow bikes.

There’s also a Nintendo one which I think is snesbox.com but can’t remember, google will help.

I found that Ecco the Dolphin is still ridiculously hard all these years later.
